The problem is that the Conservative Party hasn't set out any firm policies yet, as all the traditional Conservative values are currently being revalued. The Party has to keep the cabinet members away from the journalists until firm policies has been decided. It must be frustrating for the Cabinet members.

Henry: I'm simply astonished that there hasn't been more discussion on the "dosh for dinners" investigation. Because the CP has given a reasonable explanation and the matter anyway is under investigation as you write yourself. There isn't a lot to discuss.

Cameron's article is Times explains how prices have gone up under Labour. Though the price raises of course are mainly due to direct and indirect taxes plus more expensive regulation, you will seek in vain for words such as "taxcuts" and "deregulation". Instead he tells us that "We need to spend taxpayers’ money carefully and wisely" plus refers you to the "Tosser" web-site. I suppose his message is: "You should spend less and give DC your money so he can spend them carefully and wisely." Oh, great!

Sorry, I forgot the link to the article: Cameron must heed the threat of UKIP

HF: John Redwood says "voting UKIP is stupid" I am sure that all the professional Conservative politicians hope with Redwood that the real Conservatives behave like sheep and continue voting for them at the next election. But take a good look at the comments to the article called "Cameron must heed the threat of UKIP" in Telegraph and learn that an awful lot of real Tories stand by their principles (Cameron, HF and like can look up what the word means in a dictionary) and intend to either not vote or vote for a real Conservative party, should UKIP prove to be a such. BTW, I don't agree with the title. It is too late for Cameron to do anything. The only thing he can do to would make someone like me vote for the Conservative Party again, is to resign.

Derek: Why won't the so called Conservative party really get to grips with defence? Because the Conservative Party has been defeated from within. Resistense is futile.

Simon, very valid points and that is why we have not made as much progress as some of us had expected.

The West can't afford not to win outright in Iraq. But to win a war, one has to be ruthless and the West seems to have lost that.

That little article in the Sun about Prescott is excellent!

Thanks, Matt, but tell Cameron. I have in the past 20 years accepted all the different Tory leaders, though I really only liked Lady Thatcher. However, I set the limit at Cameron as he has presented himself so far.

"Are we in a position to act upon all this while we're in the EU" Theoretically, yes, but is Camerons willing to withdraw from the Common Agricultural policy? I will bet that he is not. Any takers?

Conservatives would do more to ensure that British farmers can fully benefit from the growing consumer demand for high quality, local produce. And how much more? Will Cameron withdraw from the Common Agricultural policy? Or is he just telling the audience (farmers) what they want to hear?

Tim Kevan, you are behind times and spreading false environmentalist propaganda from the Independent. The island disappeared two decades ago and due to erosion.

it is going to take some genuine effort on the part of the leadership to make sure that calamity is avoided. That is not going to happen. DC said something to the effect of: "Let them eat cake". In other words, DC does not mind a break.

Did Cameron mix up his speeches? Wasn't his "Solidarity With the Workers"-speech supposed to go off on May 1st?

"warn his successors never to turn away from his New Labour philosophy" What would that be? Blairs legacy is to post lots of money into a sector, screw up the administration of that sector and then apologize for it. He should spend the last month in office on his knees, flogging himself and begging for forgiveness.

Excellent motivating article! Just a tad difficult for me to help as the Conservative Party is moving to the left, while I stay on the old route, going right.

Michael said: David Davis is to lead a taskforce to reverse the decline in upward social mobility Does that mean common mortals can become equals with Cameron one day?

"David Cameron has pledged to stick up for 'working people' and not 'rich and powerful vested interests' in a radical New Year message to voters." [Telegraph] combined with Gillan's "Modern compassionate Conservatism recognises that there's more to life than earning and spending money." Such as? Redistribute other peoples money? Squander other peoples money on Green issues?

You can close your eyes and ears as much as you like. This is yet another poll confirming that the Cameron express train after an initial good start stopped and has not moved for quite some time.

he is proposing new ways of dealing with the nations problems His "ways" are not new. He took them from the socialists in order to attract socialist votes. Right now he is thinking about which way he should let the wind blow to maximize the vote: from the left or from the right. Well, if he decides from the right, he loses the lefties and if he decides from the left, he loses the genuine Conservatives.

One Nation is meaningless - especially when 80% of the new laws come directly or indirectly from EU directives and regulations. Just wait - soon enough it will be one nation: The United States of Europe or more likely the Emirat of Europe.
