Toben you can never tell her enough how beautiful she is and how proud you are of her. She will never be able to get enough of those two things. They have the potential to make her soar. 14 year old girls are struggling by the minute with their self esteem, which is very easily crushed. Make her confident! You can do this! ~~Jen Bartlett

Well, dear readers....moving day is here. I have been praying about a new direction in the blog world and the moving van has finally arrived. I have packed up the suitcases and a headed down a new path. I pray that you will join me for some coffee, some scripture and some new insights that I've gained in my walk with the Lord. I have enjoyed EVERY minute of my time at A Pair of Bartletts. I've met (so to speak) some incredible ladies over the years and have gained some lifetime (and eternal) relationships with them. The Lord has... Continue reading

I made this incredibly warming, comforting and downright yummy soup today, and it was all thanks to Rob's late Grandmother Crabtree. Y'all know by now that I don't measure much of anything, but I think I can get this pretty close for those who need to stick to the step by step. Here is what you will need: GRANDMA CRABTREE'S VEGETABLE BEEF SOUP 2 pounds of good beef stew meat 2-3 beef boulion cubes (or more to taste) 1 large onion, coarsely chopped 3 large ribs of celery, chopped bite sized 5 large carrots, peeled & sliced into 1/4 rounds... E-Mom, I just want to be in the very center of His will! And it has been almost comical to me lately to see how many truths I have been gleaning lately out of II Chronicles 20. Sometimes I am guilty of not giving enough time to some of the OT lessons. Wow, have I ever been wrong about that lately! God has been teaching me more through some of the OT jewels lately than I ever could have imagined. I love a challenge, so I have been taking that challenge and digging into some of those books! I think it's been God's way of telling me to "hush up and listen up"!! And I will be writing more....I promise :) Much love! Jen

Wow....I think I had to sweep 4 inches of dust off of my Typepad account just to write this post! I know that it's been a while, but i'm SLOWLY getting back into the blog. There has been SO much going on and I've been busier than any bee could imagine being, but nonetheless, I'm writing again. And I can think of no better blog post to write than one for my precious friend and sweet, sweet sister in the lord, "E-Mom" over at Chrysalis. If you have never paid E-Mom a visit, then you must. Her wisdom and insight,... Continue reading

This beauty in the picture is quite deceiving. It is hard to look at something that is thriving and green and flowering and really see what had become of it. This beautiful varigated lantana bush had become nothing more than an ugly brown twiggy stump that was sticking out of the corner of a flower bed. Rob and I moved to this house a year ago. The flower beds had become terribly overgrown after the previous owner passed away. The sad part was that 40 years of beautifully cultivated flowers and plants had become buried and covered up by overgrown... Continue reading

1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance. produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. 6 For while... It's amazing where the Lord will sometime lead us in our study of scripture. For whatever reason, I was lead to Deuteronomy 11 while in another scripture. I landed there through a cross reference. At any rate, when I got into the chapter, the Lord just made this passage jump off of the page for me. Isn't it amazing how He speaks? And I don't know about you, but there is no sweeter place to be than dwelling with the Lord in a land of milk and honey. Now please don't think that I am so naive to think that... Continue reading

The hydrangea in this post is from my yard. I consider it one of the "prizes" from my yard. As prized as it is, there is something on this earth that I (we) prize even more. To say that my brother Paul and I are blessed with the Mother that God gave us, would be an extreme understatement. To say the very least, our Mom is the epitome of the Proverbs 31 woman. Now, in her humble way, she would probably try and think of a million reasons why she was "not" this woman. But trust me, she is every... Continue reading

Is it Monday already? Wow....it was here before I could turn around! As always, I would like to thank our gracious hostess, E-Mom from Chrysalis for inviting us to "her house" today for another installment of Marriage Monday. If you haven't already been by, you can find her at http://www.chrysaliscafe.com (please forgive the typed out link...I was determined to use the Typepad app on my new iPad tonight...and....well, there is not a way to create hyperlinks, that I have found anyway!) The topic that E-Mom has so carefully chosen for us is the subject of faith in our marriage. Let... Continue reading

I pray that this blog post find everyone doing well. I can't exactly say that the great State of Alabama has been doing so well. Some of you may not know, but a tornado of epic proportions, along with many other tornados, ripped through certain parts of our beautiful state and destroyed or utterly leveled everything in it's (their) path(s). Many people lost their lives....many people are still nowhere to be found. We do not understand, but what we do know is that God is Sovereign and He is still on His throne. Although it's hard for our fleshly minds... Continue reading

Isaiah 40:8 (New King James Version) 8 The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.” Pondering this today....He is faithful and true and His word is inherent, infallible and inspired. God's word is true....God's word is TRUE! Continue reading

I've been meditating on Philippians 2 since our church service on Sunday. One of our associate pastors preached out of this passage and I haven't been able to get away from it. There were so many things in this passage that I needed to be reminded of, so it was hard to pick one section of it for Memory Monday. Continue reading

.....from "Morning and Evening" for 3/30/11, by Charles Hadden Spurgeon. I found these words today to bring a chill back to my bones, a chill that should never leave when pondering the gruesome death that my Savior suffered....all because of my hideous sin. "With His stripes we are healed." Isaiah 53:5 PILATE delivered our Lord to the lictors to be scourged. The Roman scourge was a most dreadful instrument of torture. It was made of the sinews of oxen, and sharp bones were intertwisted every here and there among the sinews; so that every time the lash came down these... Continue reading

I was just sitting here not feeling so well tonight, grumbling to myself about all of the things that I need to be doing, but just don't feel like doing tonight. The Lord just so happens to have a way though of stopping me in my grumbling tracks. He immediately put my sweet friend Joanne on my mind. As most of you know, on January 11th, Joanne (from The Simple Wife) suffered a massive stroke in her home. The fact that Joanne is still with us and doing as well as she is doing is a miracle from God alone.... Continue reading

E-Mom! Thank you so much...glad to be back. I appreciate your sweet comments. This is a subject that has come up so many times lately, and from so many different sources. And you're right....madly, wildly....completely in love with him....and love being his sister in Christ. What you said reminds me of the story of Abraham and Sarah! Much love to you! Jen

Wow, not only is it great to be back to the blogosphere, it's even better to be back with such a great group of ladies at Marriage Monday! And, as always, I send a huge thank you to E-Mom at Chrysalis for being such a gracious hostess. When pondering the topic for today, I had several thoughts that crossed my mind. After all, the topic was open, so it really could have been about anything under the sun. However, my mind couldn't help but wander back to today's lesson in ABF (Adult Bible Fellowship, aka "Sunday School"). We've been on... Continue reading

Well, all I can say is, I'm REALLY AND TRULY finally back to the blogging realm. I thought I was going to catch up recently and the Lord just had a different agenda. There has been so much happening....some incredible things that God has done.....all of which I can't wait to share with you. Let's take them little by little...we've got all spring and summer to catch up! I will say that during my hiatus, the Lord has grown me in ways that I never thought possible, simply because I think that sometimes, we put so many LIMITS on the... Continue reading
