I agree w/ Meow's claim about our thinking having a different structure today than when Goffman introduced interaction analysis- but assert that his work introduced the language we use for the pluralistic self- not a single unification. Looking through Johari's window we began to see how the mind rationalizes "front stage"and "backstage". For all its troublesome abilities to allow the pluralistic self to flourish, the internet is (for me) an infant's playground - where we are learning how language exposes our images, our imagination, our freedoms and our values and our social responsibilities. Watching it grow is the new frontier for interaction analysis and I believe it would fascinate Goffman.
