Reading these comments reminded me of a more insidious example of world view corruption through the media: Scooby-Doo. I once was art director and co-producer of a Scooby-Doo game and as part of that assignment, sat down and watched every episode of Scooby-Doo from the original series. This was over 110 episodes of fake ghost after fake ghost, with Scooby and Shaggy's fear of ghosts consistently derided as unwarranted because 'there is no such thing as a real ghost' (as Velma liked to say to Shaggy. I happen to know one of the principal writers from the show and for many other Saturday morning cartoons and comic books. He is a very nice person but he is also an avowed materialist. That his views found their way into many of his creative products is no surprise, but it does bother me that little kids get such an unhealthy dose of mockery masquerading as skepticism at such an early age. It is almost as if these TV writers had never heard of William James or Richard Hodgson.
