Google Visualizes Your Brand
One of the benefits – and strategic advantages that Google is able to tap into each and every day – is the huge volume of data that is generated by our collective use of the free website measurement tools known as Google Analytics. Not only do these tools provide rich data and analytics capabili...

The end of craphammer
A little over a year ago I set out to launch a project. For months I would do everything in my power to work on anything else under the sun. The project scared me. There was no client. There was no one else to blame if things went wrong. And frankly, it was too close to my heart and my purpose....
Thanks Subbu!!!
I think you are one of my oldest and perhaps most loyal readers!!

Social Media Monitoring: Finding Relationships
It's finally out! Our paper (deck, really) on using SM Monitoring to find relationships. We wanted to do more on the qualitative front but ran out of time/cycles. We dug enough to show the people we are finding are likely of value to the brand. Social Media Monitoring - Finding Relationships Love to know your thoughts/reactions. Continue reading

The PlanningNess Flip
First, an amazing shout out to Mark and Claire as planning-ness 2011 was beyond inspiring. This event remains the top planning/strategy conference on the planet and I look forward to attending every year. If there was one theme from this year's planningness, it was about flipping the AIDA model on its head and to start with action. I had the... Continue reading

Beautiful High Speed Train - Japan
I fell in love with this movie taken from a high speed train in Japan. I've often had negative reactions to the kaleidoscope effect applied to films and music videos. But this was just plain magical. Shinkansen ver.2 from daihei shibata on Vimeo. Continue reading

A Total Unfair, Unscientific and Quick Comparison
A week doesn't go by that I don't find myself having to justify, make or support recommendations on which social media monitoring platform to use. I currently recommend and use both Radian6 and Sysomos. Each product serves different needs really well. Also note that I have heard good things abou...
Hi Eden,
Sweet! I'll definitely pencil in part 2. We're working on a slideshare deck that I'm hoping to be able to share shortly. And I concur fully.
I also just posted a link to a 22 squared SM ROI presentation that somehow slipped past my radar. You might enjoy if you haven't already seen it.

Hey Sheldon,
Yeah. I don't hold that F against Sysomos MAP in the least. It's just not designed for that purpose. But if someone was looking specifically for that feature, I think they should clearly think about your Heartbeat product or Radian6.

I had not considered the negative attachments to this force and considered it only from the point of view of planning to leverage traits to generate a desired outcome. Truly well said, as ever, Paul.
And I concur. These tools do not appear to contribute to being present nor driving a stronger sense of self.

Lever for Success: Being Liked
I was a bit floored the other day when I heard someone conflating shareability with viral on a video project. The conversation was along the lines of "we should not aim for shareability so much on this video as less than 1% of all videos online go viral". Shareability is not and should not be ...

Google Analytics Magic - Part Two
This is an ongoing series titled, "Google Analytics Magic." In part one I showed how and why to create my favorite Google Analytics (GA) report, a customized keywords bounce report with drill down. This report helps to identify where search engines like Google or Bing are leading people to pages on your site that don't answer their query. This is... Continue reading

Finally. Transmedia brought down to earth.
There's an almost endless amount of hooplah about Transmedia in our industry. This presentation puts transmedia back in it's place while also placing it within its proper context. You are right. When we nail the message and offer, we often fail at the timing/delivery.
It seems it would be good to better measure things around timing and delivery so we could prove we nailed the message and offer.
Not sure how to do this yet. But it would mean the GLORIOUS death of using focus groups to try and test the message/offer. ;)
Social CRM - Are Our "Measurement" Tools Throwing Away the Relationships?
[Update: Marketing Profs just ran this article as well. There was a bunch of confusion on where it was going to run and I'm grateful and thankful that they opted to run it. They rock.] I can’t tell you how many things come across my desk every week that purport to be “social CRM” measurement to...
Thanks TaulPaul!
I love the framing of the question in the short term and long term!!! We clearly need to think in both contexts and I look forward to checking out what you've come up with over this year of thinking!
