Thanks Ad. That is useful. Nothing is policy. The Government has taken nearly a year to respond to PACACs response to Chilcots 7 year inquiry. This is arthritic sloth pace. No intention of correcting the power abuse that sent our brave soldiers to die in vain.

No remorse or apology for Parliament's greatest mistake.
The Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee 10 months ago published a report outlining lessons the Government could learn from the Chilcot Inquiry. https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm201719/cmselect/cmpubadm/708/708.pdf The Government published a wholly inadequate re...

Brexit collapse
A newspaper asked eleven brave Tory MPs, ‘Are you proud?’ They certainly should be. They won back control to parliament and MPs who represent the whole country. We will take the final decision on Brexit. It’s electoral dictatorship that gifts all powers to the right wing of the Tory Party plus...

Tory Leader of Commons backs Medicinal Cannabis Bill
Have the Tories changed their minds on drug policies? Yesterday we heard the Government backed safe injecting rooms. Today the Conservative Leader of the House warmly backed my bill to legalised Medicinal cannabis (see below). 10 minutes rule bills have little hope of success until the Govern...

Brexit crumbling
At the moment I cannot make head nor tale of the Repeal Bill. It proposes a border in Northern Ireland that is a No-border. How can that work? Today we hear that the European Court of Justice will have In-direct powers over UK Courts. That was not promised. The time for introducing Brexit has...
Thanks Ad for your kind thoughts and good wishes.\My thinking is very close to yours. Gloom on Thursday was changed to joy with the exit poll. Something vital is happening. From my election website
In many years serving Newport as an MP I have never lied to my constituents. My main challenger in this election begins with what is, at best, an attempt to mis-inform, at worst, a lie. She claims to be the only candidate who backs the PM’s line on Brexit. UNTRUE. I already did-by voting for Ar...
No. Alan was not imposed. There was a shortlist of 5 I believe including the late Reg Kelly who had challenged sitting MP Roy Hughes at a previous selection
The Newport Labour Parties would not stand for candidates being imposed without a local vote. I have quibbles about that selection and the elimination of some local candidates. But ultimately the choice was the members in Newport East.
I always face re-selection
About time you revived your own ambitions?
Cheers

Didnt the Labour Party do the same with Alan howarth When he defected from the Tories? Surely all parties should choose the best candidate preferably a local person who represents their constituents because they know the problems that affect the area they represent. I am a Labour Party member and have been for many years I once considered putting myself forward as a councillor but was put off by the Labour Party policy of all women shortlists as I would want to represent a ward that chose me because they thought I would represent them the best not because I had the right bits. So maybe there is fault on all sides

Give us the old Time Politics!

Dear Geoff,
Please forgive my hijacking of my husbands email. It was lovely to be reminded of your Dad.
Jim was my supervisor when I first worked at the DHSS in SovereignHouse. I was a stroppy but idealistic teenager - foolish enough to take on the chairing of the Civil Public Servants Association at the office. Jim was a grade higher than I and was a strong voice in the Civil Service Union. Bearing in mind that this was during the early 70s and we were at war with Sir Keith Joseph, I almost certainly owed my job to the fact that I had a wonderful and protective supervisor. They tried to get rid of me later, but thats another story.
Anyway, I just wanted to say he spoke of you a lot and was very proud of your work in the Church and in politics.
Best wishes,
Sam Flynn.

There is an over-arching priority here. Voting against Article 50 would have been pointless because success was impossible plus a vote against would have been a gift TO UKIP andthe Brexiteers proving their claim that the political elite is out of touch and anti-democratic. That view s the road to disillusionment with politics and the path to a populist obscenity such as Trump. No point in barking before you can bite. Opposition will fierce after next week as the Tory anti-Brexiteers will find their mojo.

IPSA-an expensive flop

Many thanks.
I am aware of the George Street reading of the Riot Act in the twenties and I know from hand-me-down stories from my own families of violence against Irish Immigrants in 1850s. I had not heard about the pogrom in Tredegar. Must look that up. I recently read a book about the last Jews in the Valleys as part of the process of local families moving to London.
But these events do not alter my claim. The Irish descendants of Irish immigrants held 3 of the local MPs seats until recently and other communities have been well assimilated including Asians, Somalis, West Indians and East Europeans. In many cities there are ghettoes of immigrant groups. Not here. Newport is good example of racial harmony.
Best wishes,
