I'd never heard of Velcorin before ... very interesting, thanks. Shows a wine can be low/no preservative and still not necessarily minimum intervention, at least as I'd define it. But then I remember when I was started studying oenology they called what they did "minimal intervention" too. I didn't.

Depressing to read about this. I hope things work out all right in the end. The lack of biodiversity in vineyards is something that's always worried me, though, so particularly stupid he should be persecuted for trying to bring in some biodiversity. Monocultures are never stable systems in the long run...
I admit that Thailand was one I didn't know about. But there's even a winery in Tahiti now, so I guess I shouldn't be so surprised. I've tried (and enjoyed) a number of English wines, but am yet to try any wines from Morocco or the Canary Islands -- but I'm keen to do so some time!

The one problem I can see with having a more strict definition for natural wine is who gets to decide on that definition... I've seen some overly strict personal definitions on other sites. Some disallow use of sulfur completely. Others disallow any use of oak barrels. Both can be misused, but disallowing them completely seems an overreaction - as Joly says here with regards to sulfur.
