garlic harvest
It's been a little hard for me to get back into the blogging groove. I always write my posts at night when everyone is sleeping, but the past few nights I've been playing my guitar and violin instead. It has reminded me of how nice it is to end the day by playing music rather than ending it in ...

the perfect summer snack
I discovered this combination twenty years ago and still look forward to it every summer. This year, I thought it was history due to the absence of gluten in my life now, but a friend turned me on to what I have found to be the most passable gluten free bread out there, Udi's. It will surprise ...

once a year
At the Yarmouth Clam Festival on a hot summer night. An honest-to-goodness old-fashioned parade that's always a family favorite. And followed by a little bit of once-a-year carnival goodness with dear friends...well, it really was just the silly that we ne...

simple pleasures
The adults around here have had a bit of a trying week. Nothing earth-shattering and everyone is healthy, so of course that's what really matters. But it's been just enough of a roller coaster to make our heads spin and our stomachs turn (and I really do hope there is happy news t...
we too have been making the seasons first batch of fresh pasta:0)
it was indeed delish and great for those days that it is too hot to be in the kitchen:0)
in my kitchen
This week, in our kitchen, we have.... :: enjoyed the season's first garden pesto! :: been watching closely the tomatoes to come (last year was such a bummer of a tomato crop, but this year is looking hopeful!) :: decided that I could have staggered the lettu...

awesome kid notes
I love all the many little bits and pieces of paper that end up scattered throughout our home. Surely, there are boxes, and notebooks and journals and baskets where they 'belong,' but oh, they always spill over in all the flurry of work and play. I find paper everywhere - tucked into shelves an...
got to love those stripes!!
under the tree, to be
This weekend, I put the finishing touches on this sweater for Mr. Harpie Pie. It's the Fisherman's Pullover by Veera, knit with Kathmandu Chunky Tweed (Ravelry notes here). It was a fun and quick knit, and I think the result is going to be super cute on him come wintertime. It's intended...

,I hope that you get to see this as you have so many comments already,but I too was in your exact situation with the dark wood and not knowing what colors to use.Our house was left untouched through the years and we were very blessed to buy it with all the chestnut unpainted.It is gorgeous but our dining room can be dark.We used to have your color in our old connecticut house but it wasn't going to work here so I asked for help.Someone recommended a gold color and I cringed at the thought,it was so off my comfort chart but check it out here

it keeps the room nice and bright and I tell you,when two thirds of the walls are covered in dark chestnut wood that was a hard feat.
i can find out the name if you like:0)

Do you remember my dining room in the winter? Sunlight streams in the south facing windows from October through April, May through September is a different story all together. Just outside those windows lives two huge, gorgeous maple trees. They are my air conditioners. Also, they are responsibl...

love the collar on this Amanda,Harper is just too darn cute to boot:0)
for my littlest guy
I made this shirt for Harper recently. Oh, the fourth baby. You should see the state of some of his clothing - most of which have been around the toddler block at least four times. He needed something fresh. Though I'm guessing he doesn't really care what he's wearing, so perhaps it would...
~~~~~ HAPPY BIRTHDAY EZRA~~~~~~
****Rock that vinyl cool dude ****
seven!
My little Ezra turned seven this weekend. We had a wonderful celebration of all that is 'him' - heavy on the good food and good music. The day involved a lot of ice cream and vinyl. I do love his style of celebrating. His homemade gifts included a new set of bow-ties. Ezra's a bo...
