Sorry to miss it, but I have a thesis defense to attend on Zoom then. Alas. Alack. And Woe.
Theatre is Dead: a Myth & Moor watch party
Guest Post by Howard Gayton Hello, it's Howard here, inviting you to the online live premiere of my theatre company's new play, Theatre is Dead! -- an absurd dark comedy for the times we are living in. Live performances are running every Thursday and Friday night on Zoom throughout the month o...
In lock-down, I feel like I should be making loads of progress forward on my words in progress -- yet I am not. (There are thousand, or just one very strong, reason(s) why that is the case. But I am trying.) Regardless -- I am reminded of the adage of my daughter's juggling teacher: "The best jugglers are the students who love picking up balls off of the floor -- because that's where they all end up eventually." So I've been trying lean in to loving picking up where I left off, and loving the sense of re-discovery, and loving the inevitable jog that might turn into a run, that might pick up velocity to spring -- lo! -- into the flow state. And I think (or perhaps feel is a better word) that now is a time when we need Fantasy that does exactly that: that nudges the audience to look beyond what is obviously at hand, to see the connections between the natural world and themselves, between the Other and themselves. Lofty goals, I know. But it is what keeps me going.
Telling the holy
I keep returning to "Telling the Holy," Scott Russell Sanders' fine essay on myths and sacred stories from around the world. Each time I read it I find new things to ponder, and today it's this: "Mystery is not much in favor these days. The notion that there are limits to what we can do, what...
Delightful! Not just for the professional development, the chance to hear you and Howard in conference, or learning more about his journey as an artist -- but also for the delightful Tilly-related thumps that are detectable at ~ 7:40....
Nonsense and Foolery
My husband, Howard, a theatre director and performer, is about to embark on a year-long Journey into the Heart of the Fool -- via the Nomadic Academy of Fooling (NOA), led by the extraordinary Jonathan Kay. In order to achieve this, we've set up a fund-raising page to help cover the NOA tuit...
