Short answer: I liked 10 designs more than yours. Nothing to be upset about. Not all teams make the playoffs.

It was a tough choice to make, but I went with Lance Ford's Nashville Predators concept over Al Hollowood's Penguins concept. The tie-breaker was that I hate Pittsburgh.

And my final comment: A lot of animal head logos look the same.

So, the burden is on ME to defend Fraser Davidson? So, I have to determine who was the originator of the technique and style of the modern day animal head sports logo? I'M the one who has to overlay Fraser's logo on top of the Tiger Cats logo to clearly show you the lines don't match up? With just a QUICK search, I found many animal head logos that are similar or use the same illustration technique. How am I supposed to tell you who did the first one? Are all the rest a ripoff of that first one? I created a blog post about a ripoff artist because he blatantly lied to me and said it was his work. When it was proven NOT to be his work, he backtracked and apologized. The burden is on YOU to prove that Fraser's logo is a direct ripoff of the Tiger Cats logo. Get into Photoshop, overlay the logos and point out where the lines match up. http://sportslogos.net/logo.php?id=hdekslhw2d2inhtrq1pb52rdm http://sportslogos.net/logo.php?id=x5vkhslop7w530m1wf9b62gnj http://sportslogos.net/logo.php?id=c31d9cs9gmcvg3jqakt1 http://sportslogos.net/logo.php?id=i0jzur9t0oggme76nxjap7he7 http://sportslogos.net/logo.php?id=f57l1zt62aatjv62zslxwjmaw http://sportslogos.net/logo.php?id=dgs1quh2tg4hzmqu9upcnfpfb http://files.leagueathletics.com/Images/Club/5239/tigers%20logo%20png_edited.jpg

I don't need, want, or care about "publicity" ... especially for something like a blog dedicated to hockey logos. If you want to post links or make a point that someone's logo looks like a copy of another logo, then feel free to make that point. But don't come here pretending that you're the only one brave enough to do so. People don't call Fraser Davidson a ripoff artist because he's not. Perhaps you're too scared to tell Fraser himself that you think he's ripping off someone else's work. There are plenty of places to reach him directly.

Shut up, Calvin. Nobody is scared or afraid to speak up around here. Don't try to come off as the tough guy. If you got something to say, say it. Provide links to the "original" logo and the "offending" logo and then start your comments. Until then, you're just an idiot yapper.

There have been countless posts on here pointing out theft and what is and what is not stealing, with side by side comparisons like the one shown above. I'm not going to write a tutorial on how not to steal. I generally write up in the rules not to use stock art and to design original logos for competitions. For the most part, people mind the rules. However, when someone blatantly lies after I ask them if it's their work, then yeah, I'm gonna write a post like this.

I'm not sure who you're comment is directed to, Tim, so I'll just assume it's a "to whom it may concern..." I took the concept down because I wanted to look into it more AND avoid a bunch of back and forth here in the comments section. If I thought you stole it, I'd have written that in the post. I didn't.

You're free to use whatever jersey/uni template you'd like.

I'm with Neonix on this one. Just try a different email and see if that gets you in. Or perhaps check your spam folder. Might just be an issue with the email provider you're using. If that doesn't work, you can always find Chris on Twitter and shoot him a direct message. (But I'd try the alternate email thing first. If you use Yahoo, don't use another Yahoo address. It could be an issue with that provider. Set up a Gmail account and see if that works). /2cents

For this competition, I want all of the re-brand design elements to stand on their own. There's nothing wrong with a grand presentation, with fancy backgrounds/lens flares/etc, but I wanted this particular competition to be flare-free. It allows people to focus on the actual logos instead of the whole presentation. It's a logo design contest, not best presentation. Don't misunderstand, sometimes you need a background color in order to show how a logo will look on a dark color versus a light color. What I want to avoid for this contest, though, is all of the photo backgrounds and shit like that.

So far, Andy Hall's Las Vegas Kings is my favorite design in the competition. The logo looks tight and professional. The jersey designs are a little hokey to me, but, as a Las Vegas team, I can see them actually doing something like this. I'm not really sure what's going on with Gareth Webb's alternate design. The primary has a green tongue and the secondary has a red tongue. And I'm not sure what that green thing is on the head of the secondary mark. It's not on the primary, so I don't know how they tie together. So far, the Las Vegas Kings have my vote. HOWEVER, in reality, it would never fly since there's already a Kings team in the NHL out in Los Angeles!

Fleur de lis is perfectly acceptable for your Quebec design.

My two cents: 1. I am not generally a fan of wordmarks as a primary logo, but I do like how clever this one is, using the space needle (or whatever that thing is called) as the letter "t". 2. I don't like how you can't really read "Metropolitans" from even a little distance. 3. The curves of the "S" are pretty crude and needs a lot of smoothing help 4. I don't like the blunt spire/antenna outline. I would have made it come to a point. 5. The jersey looks way too much like the Edmonton Oilers'. The NHL and the Oilers would never let this jersey style with this color scheme get past the concept stage. 6. When I think of Seattle colors I see blues/greens 7. As for the secondary, I'd just nitpick a lot of the positioning and symmetry of the elements that make up the design. Overall, it's a clever design and that's coming from someone who hates wordmark logos. With polishing and tweaks, this would be a very nice design. And, as stated above, it needs a more appropriate color scheme.

Well said, DJC. Now, since I consider this a friendly website, how about we critique Matt's design rather than go back and forth about the voting system. The voting system has worked for two years and I'd rather not change anything. So, friendly comments and critiques anyone?
@Gobias- These ARE opinions. Nobody is taking away Matt's victory. I didn't step in and say, "No, this is not the winner.". Matt did a very good "Get out the vote" campaign and it helped him get a lot of votes. He submitted a design and operated under the rules, fair and square. Does that mean I think his design was the best of the bunch? No, I don't. That's why I voted for Fraser's and not Matt's. Again, nobody is taking his victory away. They are just voicing their opinion on the quality of his work versus how he got the votes. Two different things. Bottom line, Matt won. Fair and square.

@Matt McElroy - I think it's fair to assume that most people here realize you did a "get out and vote" campaign. There's nothing wrong with that. You're not the only one to do it. You just got the best results. :) When it comes time for voting in the next contest, I'll make sure to remind all the designers that they all need to do a "get out and vote" campaign or they could be left in the dust. IF that proves to be a shitty system, I'll come up with a new method of voting. Perhaps I'll be the judge, or I'll get a panel of judges who are respected and trusted designers. I'll let others critique the design ... I'm working on the next competition!
I'll most likely keep my voting system as it is. Out of all of the competitions, only two contests had an out of place winner. Either that or I'll have some professional and reputable designers be judges. We'll see...
