I lived in Quebec for the first 22 years of my life. I can vouch for the fact that if you are English you are not accepted. The Quebec government has a completely different approach to their inhabitants than any other province. I was so pleased that I was able to move to Ontario. Now that I know of this story I am so glad my 8 year old son with autism is protected from such a terribly run province! The sad thing is that services in Ontario aren't that great either. Long waits for ABA and then very little therapy is given before discharge. Canada doesn't count how many children with autism there are. They always quote the numbers from the CDC. When the government doesn't know of the impact of autism how can they provide services for them?
News items like this make me feel sick to my stomach. It's so heartbreaking to think of these poor kids dieing like that. I worry about my own son every day. Wandering is such a huge problem and the older the child gets the harder it is to keep them safe.
I enjoy reading books about the struggles and triumphs of mothers and their child(ren) with autism. It helps us all know we aren't alone and that someone else understands. It's also helpful to read accounts that display true honesty. We love our children with autism and they love us back even if they can't tell us. We know!
