Isn't it a bit too hot to knit something in wool?
WIPW
A little knitting is all I have achieved this week all my efforts have gone into teaching and finishing children's work. (And write an assignment that was overdue.) It took a number of attempts to get the knitting to this point due to the fact that I am using a different wool to the one reco...
It is a very nice design and the embroidered panel looks good in the middle.
Summer Stitching
This is not a good time of year to stitch. It is hot and sticky and the outdoors keeps calling. But I have been experimenting with a new zippered bag. I am calling this one "a good idea at the time!'. It seemed a good idea to do the stitching but I had no clear plan of what I would do with i...
Looking great.
They are all different patterns, aren't they?
WIPW
Not much to report this week except that I am teaching every day and that doesn't leave much time for anything else. But I do try to do a few lines of the Kogin each day. I still have quite a bit to go.
Fantastic work, and growth as artists.
The 'Beyond TAST' Running Stitch sample in the last picture is fab.
Stitching Stories
There is a wonderful post on friend Pam's blog about an exhibition she saw at the Adelaide Art Gallery in South Australia. This exhibition is work of the Yarrenyty Arltere women. I was so taken by their work this sent me looking for their web and facebook pages so that I could learn more. so...
A bad or slow connection is so frustrating! It is really a waste of time!
Your stitching is not slow, though! You have made great progress. The Kogin is perfect for Beyond TAST Running Stitch, isn't it?
WIPW
Frustration still reigns supreme with getting my computer to work properly. Part of the problem is that my computer connection is so slow (Telstra) that nothing will work. (We pay top dollar for a very poor service. Even standing on the roof I can only get 2 bars on my phone.) So I apologise...
I think you have. been more than busy. Unbelievable after all the work you had during the holidays.
The sweater and cap are charming!
WIPW
As my new mantra is "to accept what is', I have to honestly say, not much progress has been made at all. One small rabbit. A gift for a new baby. A knitted Arran jumper and hat for a bear. (This will be a prize for the Children's Class.) I couldn't find a pattern so I made some major adj...
I hope. you will have many meetings, journeys and other opportunities to work this beautiful pattern. Silk thread, eh? Won't it fray....?
This may not be wise?
I have decided to add a new piece of stitching to that great bundle that I already have in progress and I know this may not be a wise thing to do. My reason for doing it is that I want something that I can just pick up and take with me to Guild stitching days. One of the members, Katherine, ha...
You have had a very active time over Christmas. Are your guest still visiting? Will they be around to celebrate new year, too?
Keep up the good work!
The days inbetween
Not much work done here at all. Sewing that is. Lots of cooking and building toys. Swimming at the beach, visiting extras, cleaning, washing and all that goes with 15 extras plus loads of other visitors. One day I made 250 sausage rolls, with about 10 left over. Then a triple measure of pic...
You need a good serving of that Pavlova after your endeavors with the kayak.
A bit steep!
My daughter borrowed my kayak and little while ago and took it down the track to the beach which is opposite our house. She said there were no problems getting it up and down the track. So today I though I would try that instead of walking around the road to the barge ramp. Bad mistake!! ...
I am also tempted to take part in the Beyond TAST challenge. Furthermore I want to check which TAST stitches I might have missed. I joined TAST in 2012 and have tried to add any odd stitches that was not part of the TAST that I did. My collection is now 155 stitches, but I am sure there are some I have missed.
Thoughts on stitching in 2018
I see that Sharron has put up a piece about TAST in 2018 and I think that I will join the "Beyond TAST Challenge." I first started with TAST back in 2009 but didn't get very far. It wasn't until 2011 that I became serious about exploring the stitches and made sure that I did a piece every week....
It IS a busy time of the year, but it is also a chance to meet up with family and friends. Let's hope there will be time for a bit of everything!
That time of year
Time has caught up with me and I am way behind on where I wanted to be and other commitments keep crowding in on me. Yesterday was probably my last day of sewing until after the New Year. Now that is a scarey when I think about what I want to get done. I have family and friends moving over to...
That's a colourful lot!
I think China is fast to dispatch parcels, but many countries are overwhelmed by the mass of mail after Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and can't distribute the parcels smoothly. There seems to be chaos in Sweden!
It's a bit like Xmas
I put in orders for supplies for some of my 2018 classes and unexpectedly some have started to arrive. I wasn't expecting to see these until well into January or even February as I had ordered them from China. It makes learning how to insert zippers so much more interesting when you have zipper...
The prints are all charming and suitable for different age groups, too. Well spotted!
Just checking
That is what I did yesterday. Dropped into the discount fabric shop to just check what was there. I'm afraid it was much of the same old, same old, but I found some fabric that was reduced in price and although I'm not sure what I will use it for now, I know it will be just perfect to use in t...
Printer ought to be a four-letter word! Printers really should go on a diet as well, the hunger for ink is draining the bank account!
The joys of technology
I had to buy a new printer when I got home from overseas. The other one just gave up and it was only about 18 months old. This time I bought a Canon . It isn't nearly as bulky and doesn't take up too much room on the desk but the inks cost a bomb. I have just finished printing all the instru...
What a lovely view from your apartment window!
The print shows another nice view!
Have a good time with your friends.
I'm off to Toowoomba (again)
This time of year always calls for a visit to friends in Toowoomba, So today is the day. I had my Xmas party for the cottage patchwork group last night and stayed in town at the apartment so that I could get an early start today. I love staying here. It is close to everything yet still a bit...
I agree with Rachel - avoid nylon thread at all cost!
You are so quick, having finished the samples as well as the kits!
January 2018 Children's Embroidery Class
Well here it is. The first of the Queensland themed designs to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the Embroiderers' Guild of Queensland Inc., "We have Pineapples". The designs go from easy to difficult. I started with the difficult for our more advanced stitcher's. I have 3 de...
...but you will manage it all. You've been in tight spots before!
Good luck!
Count down to Xmas
Now that kind of crept up on me. Xmas that is. I have been putting bits and pieces away all year and now is the time to pull them out and see what else I need to buy. Plus I have a Xmas gift to finish sewing for Thursday based on this design. I have the fabric, just need to put it tog...
Any work done by hand is hard and time consuming. To keep the tradition there must be meaning and some kind of profit in it. In Japan, craftsmanship is highly valued and we expect to pay for the amounts of labour and love that is put into making, e.g. a kimono. I hope, that in many other countries handiwork and handicraft will be valued so highly that it is really worth keeping up the traditions, while the country can move into the future. Otherwise these women will be kept back and trapped in poverty.
Spinning and weaving
After viewing an exhibition in Canberra a couple of years ago I was alerted to the range of wonderful weaving from South America. So, I embarked on this last trip a bit more prepared for what I would be looking at. What I hadn't prepared for was how all pervasive it is in the lives of some wom...
Your friends are lucky they could benefit from your trip!
Every time you pass the picture on the stairs you will remember all your adventures!
Sleeping, writting and getting my feet back on planet earth
I think I am back on planet earth again. After arriving home the proverbial hit the fan and I was flat out just getting through each day. The grandchildren were so eager to get their gifts, so they were first on the list. Then I had to visit all the family and distribute their gifts. Next cam...
I bought some Perle made in Romania, and it is the best perle I have ever used. You might love all your purchases and use up everything quickly,
I got it bit carried away with the threads
I bought a lot of threads while I was away. Starting in the USA where I was seduced by the Wonderfil stand at the Houston show. I like this thread for use on the sewing machine. My Bernina dealer has a limited range and I normally wait for the quilt shows in Brisbane to stock up. This stall ...
Old medication can be doing you harm, just as food that has gone off can. I hope you will soon feel better and can use all the lovely threads you bought.
The seabirds will be lovely quilts.
WIPW
WHAT WORK IN PROGRESS? I'm still trying to get my feet back on planet earth. The state my brain is in, still, is a disgrace. But that isn't entirely my fault. Today I looked at the packet that my medication comes in. Turns out I should have put it in the bin a couple of weeks ago because it...
Welcome home.
I hope you stayed safe most of the trip and had only that one meal problem.
What a lot of impressions you must have had.
The stitching done in the market looks colourful and attractive. I hope it is not just a tourist attraction, but that the tradition will go on.
Looking forward to your future post.
Jet lagged
Well I'm home again after my month on the road. I'm tired and a bit jet-lagged and my mind is full of all the sights, sounds and experiences of the last 4 weeks. I have to sort through all my notes, organise my photos and get all the information into some sort of order so that I can move on. S...
Have a good trip, a safe adventure and blog when you can.
Today is the day- I hope
Yes I'm off on another adventure. The bag is packed and I hope to be away for the next 4 weeks, that is what I have booked for but who knows what will eventuate. I have a friend who went to India and came back the next day! Something was wrong with her visa. My visa waver from the USA is sti...
Prints with 'straight' lines or repeats will show up any little mistake. What a pity you had to redo this, but then again if you get homesick on your trip you can always read the names of your local area and feel good again!
Have a safe trip.
WIPW
I am going to have to treat this as a trial, it needs to be restitched. For the first time I have had a problem with the transfer pens. It must be this fabric , which they have discoloured. Plus in my haste I didn't transfer the pattern quite straight. The edges were straight but the print w...
What a beautiful garden - it could have been in Japan, so well is it made.
Enjoy your trip and do things slowly!
5 days to go
It has been some time since I was on a countdown for overseas travel. I think the last one was a trip to NZ and that didn't go well back in 2011. (Tasmania doesn't count.) I had a fall and broke some ribs and ruptured a hernia!! It has taken 6 years to be off again after lots of medical prob...
