Today on Tweetdeck, I saw Thad McCotter joking around about Obama's Slurpee Summit. McCotter was debating what hors d'œuvres would be appropriate for the meeting, such as asking fellow congressmen to bring him back a moonpie and a Mountain Dew. It's nice to see that not everyone in Congress is... Continue reading

Of course the whole point of posting videos, pictures, and statuses on one’s Facebook and Twitter accounts is to seem more accessible. Of course the best way to seem more accessible is not just determined by what you post, but how often you post. One of the inspirations for this... Continue reading

Without the power of a committee chairmanship, probably.

So I come home from a good day of campaign phonebanking, and get ready for a nice TweetDeck sesh. The first tweet that catches my eye is jaredpolis who said, “Carry 2 papers, use as needed:One should say‘The world was created for me’ the other‘I am dust & ashes.'h/t Rabbi Bunim... Continue reading

With all the hubbub of the election season being over- it’s time to focus on the basics. This week were going to go over personal branding for political social media accounts. A FB profile of any average Joe is a window into one’s personal life. People post their interests, pictures... Continue reading

Alaska is the ultimate embodiment of the power struggle between the Republican establishment and the Tea Party. In one corner, you have Lisa Murkowski who was appointed by her father, former Governor/Senator Frank Murkowski, and refused to give up her incumbency by launching a write-in campaign. In the other corner,... Continue reading

Last Tuesday was not a complete loss for the Democrats, as they were able to hold on to the Senate. I think the two scariest failed Senate prospects for Democrats were Sharron Angle knocking out Reid, and Christine O’Donnell taking the Delaware Senate seat. It’s important to check out what’s... Yeah- I helped manage a phone bank in my neck of the woods. I got the result that I wanted (at least state/locally), so I'm happy about that. But it's like "now what do I do with my time?"

Elections are a zero sum game. With Republicans winning big time, it means Democrats losing big time. However, Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi aren’t billing this as a loss, but more a time of transition. Nancy Pelosi Despite Conservatives calls to “Fire Nancy Pelosi”, Nancy is running for House Minority... Continue reading

The American people have spoken, and have selected Republicans to represent them in the House for the next two years. This is a great win for Conservatives across America. Of course such a win could not have been achieved without certain key players energizing their party base and getting them... Continue reading

It's the final countdown with tomorrow being E-Day. Democrats and Republicans are struggling to remind those who haven't mailed in their ballots to turn out at the polls tomorrow. The last few days of the election season can be pretty stressful because there is just so much going on. Volunteers... Continue reading

The Tea Party Patriots Facebook Fan Page is pretty advanced. They have a profile pic that includes an election countdown, their wall is a news aggregator for all the regional tea parties, and they’re doing pretty well with their 500,000+ fans. To my surprise, they even have their own home... Continue reading

Many economists look at traditional advertising not only from an ROI perspective, but a game theory perspective. I think social media can fall under this as well. I.E.- Social media marketing might be a "prisoners dilemma" (http://bit.ly/cYQyJ2). Say if you have two companies that might be better off not spending the time/money on social media marketing. But if one engages in social media marketing, that company will profit at the others expense. Thus both companies will engage in social media marketing despite it not being the optimal outcome.

I received a little email from the first lady to participate in the Commit to Vote Challenge. This website allows one to do the serial wall posting campaign I talked about yesterday, but a lot more efficiently. The site randomly lists 7 of your friends on a column in the... Continue reading

Earlier today, my old college roommate posted a comment that just said “SPAM!!!!” The reason being is that I decided to try an alternative to the home phone banking in yesterday’s blog. The point of these phonebanking campaigns is to call voters of the same party as you are, and... Continue reading

One of the important things to focus on when studying politics is “who has the star power?” Who is able to mobilize party activists, generate discussion, and ultimately mobilize voters come E-Day. Today in the Left’s corner we have BarackObama and on the Right we have SarahPalinUSA. Sarah Palin has... Continue reading

Nancy’s name has been relentlessly dragged through the mud. Despite being instrumental in this Congress’s legislative victories, Democrats are shying away from her. And Republicans hate her for those victories, as seen below: From the GOP's home phonebanking website. From Michael Steele's fire Nancy Pelosi Bus Tour. With being this... Continue reading

Profile pics of Politicians tend to be a standard professional portrait, with sometimes a patriotic background. Occasionally, you will see a Congressman show a personal touch by having a pic of them doing their favorite activity, or maybe a little cartoon character. As far as using your Twitter profile pic... You're right, polls show the neck to neck. But as time goes on, social media is going to be just as important as any other element of a political campaign.
