Sunflower Bean - Human Ceremony The UK's Mercury Prize winner releases the album stateside. C. Duncan - Architect Heavy house music. Radio Hannibal Best of 1983
Still counting backwards through time as reach 1983 and the best songs of that year. I kept noticing how much great music came out in 1982. I look forward to putting that together. Continue reading

24 hours of zen music
About a year ago I began to practice yoga. It coincided with my fundamental change in diet. In other words, my 2015 new year's resolution was a major success through discipline and a strong mindset. I can't wait for the 2016 resolution to reap rewards. Yoga is very much about music. Music that's sometimes maligned by the music snobs. The new age genre elicits plenty of snide comments on it's lack of true musicality, whatever that might be. It was announced that Yanni is coming to Cleveland this summer and, sure enough, the comments popped up on Facebook. I used... Continue reading

A tough start to 2016 for music fans
2016 has started on a somber note for music fans. In the past few weeks we've seen the passing of Lemmy, David Bowie, Stevie Wright (lead singer on The Easybeats' "Friday On My Mind"), Gary Loizzo (lead singer on The American Breed's "Bend Me, Shape Me"), Kevin Junior of The Chamber Strings, Mic Gillette, trumpeter for Tower Of Power, Dale "Buffin" Griffin, drummer of Mott The Hoople and Glenn Frey of The Eagles. All of these musicians were under 70 years old which makes it all the more painful. Some people grouse at my insistent posting of musician obituaries on... Continue reading

Bowie tribute show promises to be magical
Here's how special I think Woody Woodmansey's Holy Holy Bowie tribute show this Saturday night at The Odeon is going to be. I sold my pair of general admission floor tickets to see Bruce Springsteen on the opening night of his tour in Pittsburgh the same night. Mick "Woody" Woodmansey is the drummer and last surviving member of Bowie's Ziggy Stardust era group, or as I like to call them The Spiders From Mars. Holy Holy, named for an obscure Bowie song, also includes his long time producer and early bassist Tony Visconti. Bowie had given his blessing to this... Continue reading

There's a starman waiting in the sky
How did I miss the reports of David Bowie battling cancer for the past 18 months. Knowing that would have certainly helped soften the gut punch I took upon awakening to the fact that one my musical idols was gone. That was two hours ago. I'm still stunned and deeply saddened. David Bowie is the artist who truly opened up the world to me. The discovery of Bowie's music and, in particular the Ziggy Stardust record which is my second favorite album of all time, coincided with my move from top 40 to progressive rock on the radio dial. He... Continue reading

Revisiting the 101 best Springsteen songs 5 years later, a throwback Thursday
Today's Thursday or on Facebook some know it as "throwback Thursday". That got me to wondering what I was blogging about, say, five years ago. Well, I took a look and discovered that one of the rare contributors to Radio Hannibal was in the midst of a very lengthy project, The 101 songs of Bruce Springsteen. The countdown, which included lengthy and personal essays on each song, was written by an Aussie I'd met through a music message board. It took months to write and publish the entire list. With Springsteen kicking off his tour a week from Saturday in... Continue reading

Wide-ranging 2016 Consumer Electronics Show gets underway
Cleveland - It's the first full week of January and that means Las Vegas baby! That is if you're into the consumer electronics scene where the the annual CES Show starts today. Those of us who've been in the business a long time always reminisce and tell tales of when CES was just about stereo equipment. Today it seems to be about everything but that. Look for drones to big a big vocal point of CES 2016. Anything to do with security will also be a hot trend. You won't find me there. There's so much coverage of this yearly... Continue reading

Some great Spotify tips and tricks from Lifehacker
Cleveland - Lifehacker is one of my favorite blogs. Of course, google search is pretty much one big life hacker, but I digress. Yesterday they posted this, 11 More Awesome Spotify Tips and Tricks You're Probably Not Using. It has got some really helpful information like how I can find deleted playlists. And don't worry, there's a link in the story which leads you to their original tips article, The Best Spotify Tips and Tricks You’re Probably Not Using. Someone asked me yesterday which is my preferred streaming service, Spotify or Apple Music. Well, I should mention that I also... Continue reading

A couple of things on food
I don't talk about food too much on my blog. To be honest, I don't eat as much of it as I used to. Last year I made some big changes to the way I consume it which lead me to dropping 40 pounds and having to change nearly my entire wardrobe. I have three basic rules when it comes to my diet. Only eat when my body tells me I need to do so which means no set meal times. Eat less and stay hungry. Being hungry is better than being stuffed. Don't treat food as a hobby, In... Continue reading

Streaming music to become a raging river in 2016
Cleveland - Streaming music has been picking up momentum as far as adaption rates are concerned. I see it first hand in my social media circle. My peers are finally getting it. I guess my hammering away finally caught their attention. Of course, for kids and twenty-somethings streaming music is the music delivery system of choice. It's the older demographic who are beginning to come around. I predict that 2016 will be a watershed (pun intended) year for streaming music services. The Beatles move to streaming on Christmas Eve helped marketing, that's for sure. Now if their move will propel... Continue reading
