I noticed this on my way to work today... it's the bigass coca-cola sign, or WAS the bigass coca-cola sign. Now, I'm not the person who normally glorifies corporate marketing but I truly feel sad that this is being dismantled. To me it has nothing to do with coke, but rather it's a beacon for my experiences in dotcom San Francisco. And a magnificent example of neon-sign design which is harder and harder to come by these days. Coming here blind from Minneapolis in 1999, I had no inkling of what California was like except for a red hot chilli... Continue »

Just finished (re-)reading a collection of articles on start-ups, thanks to link sprawl from Nivi's recent post on Venture Hacks, "Sometimes the feature is the product". Eric Reis's write-up on pivots and Sean Ellis's milestones are both highly recommended reading.... Continue »

A Nov. 26 article in the District edition of Local Living incorrectly said a Public Enemy song declared 9/11 a joke. The song refers to 911, the emergency phone number. via www.washingtonpost.com When I saw @vespa59 RT'ing @Mike_FTW saying that something was the "best newspaper correction of all time" I was like, omg really? But, actually, it is.... it could have come straight from the Onion. In fact, it feels a little too good to be true, like someone at the Washington Post is playing a very elaborate joke on us all. Blog: Expert Labs
Now that we've had a chance to catch our breath from the launch of Expert Labs, it's a good time to take a quick look at how this new initiative has been received. Here are a few early reports on our effort from across the web: Wired: "Crowdsourcing Social Networks to Inform Public Policy" Dash said the goal of the Expert Labs incubator is not create a new social network, but to “us[e] open web technologies [to] make it easy for policy makers and scientists to connect with one another using the web sites and programs they’re already familiar with”... I like this new TypePad Micro. I think we're going to get along famously. It will be interesting to see how it handles longer posts alongside 141+ characters posts, but in general this seems like a great step for TypePad... Continue »

There are going to be many words written about this goal France has scored against Ireland. Lot of folks are going to conclude that Henry is a cheater. No doubt that this goal should have been dismissed, but I don't necessarily agree that anyone should blame Henry. What should he have done? Go to the referee and say: please cancel the goal? Have you ever seen this in soccer? I play a lot of golf. At golf, there is no referee. If you want to cheat, you can. Nobody is going to tell you anything. You are in charge of... Continue »
