Howdy, friends! I bet you thought I disappeared, didn't you? I didn't. I am here! And, I'm LOVING everything about our first full autumn in Kansas. While we were in ATX I found I really missed the changing seasons, the crisp fall weather, and the gorgeous changing leaves that signal us to bundle up and get cozy! I might be currently taking my #treestalking to the next level and, if you follow me on instagram, you're probably pretty sick of my leafy posts, but whatever. Anyhoo, I was invited by a fellow design blogger, Sara, of Fine and Pink, to... Continue reading

Well, here we are. The last post of the One Room Challenge. A big THANK YOU to Linda from Calling it Home, for letting us all play along!!! The 20 featured designers posted their projects yesterday, and WHOA... Go check that stuff out. Gah. Good stuff and fun times! Today is the big day for the rest of us guest bloggers and, while some folks have done TONS in the last 6 weeks, I would say my bits were a little less drastic. I say that, but then I look back to the start, and I feel a little bit... Continue reading

Here we are with a week to go until the ORC bloggers (20 featured, hundreds of guests) reveal their projects! I predict that, at this time next week, hundreds of hours will have been spent checking them all out - and hopefully it's not just MY hours making up that number! I hate to report too much, as my projects weren't quite so involved this time around, so the work has tapered off here at the end. I'm pretty much done! I am in this weird new world that I am struggling to understand: It's called KEEPING IT SIMPLE. What?!... Continue reading

Howdy, y'all! How about some week 4 updates? Have you checked in on the 20 featured bloggers lately? I have, and I am on pins and needles over the timeline for some of these renovations - 6 weeks seems like a LONG time until you have a few hiccups and then 6 weeks feels like a second. The other guest bloggers are getting 'er done too - check out the progress!!! I was plugging away this week, myself. However, I am a wee bit late getting the blog updated. Not enough hours in the day and all of that. With... Continue reading

Well, what have we here??? Week three of the ORC? Yep. It's the halfway point and because it's how things go, you'll not be surprised to hear that after last week's charming visit from the stomach flu, we were not out of the woods as far as contagion was concerned. It's like she had a premonition of things to come, because just a few days before Middle Child woke up because she "felt funny," she gave me this for-no-reason-at-all-except-she's-sweet (some of the time) card: Poor thing. She was "lucky" that she had only one episode and I'm lucky because it... Continue reading

Well, here we are at week two, and I'm getting a late start on my post. The other linking participants probably all have their games on, and the 20 featured folks CERTAINLY did... Believe it or not, I actually got lots of things done last week, but, as the blog post "deadline" came, this happened: Yup. That's a sick noodle in there. This is the farthest I got from her for the entire day yesterday. She had a tummy bug and life got in the way of blogging. As it should. She's on the mend today and, while she's still... Well, y'all, I'm back in the saddle. As of today, I am joining in again as a guest participant in Calling it Home's One Room Challenge! If you didn't follow along the last time when I finished Mini Mister's bedroom, then let me introduce you to the concept. Linda, our gracious hostess, puts on a six-week challenge twice a year as a way to get bloggers inspired to finish off a space that they have planned to work on, are working on, or WERE working on but haven't yet finished. There are 20 featured bloggers that she chooses, and each... Continue reading

I always feel the need to explain myself when I post on the blog after SUCH A LONG TIME. This time, I feel like my excuse is pretty valid. Since the last time I sat down for a little keyboard chat, our lives have been turned on their heads, and we now live in Kansas. Wait. WHAT!? Yep, you heard me right. WE MOVED. Austin allergies had become so toxic to my physical well-being that, when Superhubs was approached by a recruiter for a job with a company he really admires, we decided to take the leap and are now... My fixation on this color blue appears to have actually started about 20 years ago. I say "appears," because sometimes I don't notice my own tendencies. Only after time has passed, and a pattern emerges, do I realize something's been a "thing." I can still remember where I was the moment I laid eyes on this pair... My mom and I were out hitting garage sales one Saturday morning, when these beauties called to me from amid a cluttered table at my most favorite kind of sale; my beloved "Old Lady" sale. Gosh, older folks sure do let go of... Continue reading

Remember when Shelby declares her wedding colors with such conviction? I remember being so enamored with that movie and, at a time when big bows and big hair were all the rage, I was more than a little jealous of her fancy southern house and her fancy southern wedding... Their thick southern accents weren't so bad either... But, more than anything, the colors "Blush and Bashful" have left a very lasting impression... I have never once vilified pink. Even when trends have come and gone, I've loved me some pink. And, I guess the good thing about pink being "in"... Continue reading

Superhubs and I have made a strange hobby of scouring real estate listings and texting each other whenever we find something notable in a price range that appeals to our conservative sides. We have dreams of being debt-free / having a house paid off so that we can afford to travel, spend summers at the beach, and generally be free of a mortgage while our kids are still living at home. With many jobs now offering the option to work remotely, it is enticing to think of having such employment that allows the flexibility to move to a lower-cost area... Continue reading

It's been almost a week, and I'm finally getting around to that post I promised. You know, the one where I show you a bunch of process photos and try to explain how we upholstered the walls in Mini Mister's room. Consider this a general discussion, not a tutorial of any kind. There are some details that might not be covered to your satisfaction if you are planning to do this, so a little more research on your end is probably a good idea... My last post outlines why we chose to try our hands at wall upholstery. Let's just... Continue reading

Well, friends, this is the day. The final post, the big reveal, the nail-biting conclusion of the One Room Challenge, hosted by the lovely Linda and media partner House Beautiful. The 20 featured bloggers ROCKED their projects, and the guest bloggers also really brought their game. You could spend days out here on the interweb, sucked into each project and enjoying the process and completion of all of the participants' spaces - and you should! There's some GREAT stuff going on... For reasons of fun, camaraderie, a deadline, and accountability, I decided (the day before the challenge started!) to play... Continue reading

Sometimes, even my best intentions aren't enough. I really meant to post on Thursday with my week 5 update of the ORC, but I was besieged by allergy symptoms and was really dragging and not feeling well. And, since you know that I've been hearing a little too much Despicable Me lately (week 3), it shouldn't surprise you at all that I was identifying a lot with this scene this week. There may have been a few days where getting dressed was not happening. (Me = Vector, and I just wish there had been cookie deliveries...) Turns out I was... Continue reading

Howdy, friends! And welcome back for another post for the One Room Challenge! (<-- Click that link to see what the selected 20 bloggers are up to!) You can see my previous week's updates here: Week 1, Week 2, Week 3. This last week was a good one. We banished the kids from the room for two days, and got to work. The wall treatment turned out WAY better than I imagined, and that it got mostly finished feels like some major progress. Since the wall treatment was a project I have never done before, I was a bit angst-y... Continue reading

Oh hay, friends! I can't believe we are already at week 3 of the One Room Challenge! If you're joining for the first time with this post, you may want to check out Week 1 and Week 2; They explain the challenge and my plans... And ohhhhh, the plans... These are kind you make and then change and then make FOR SURE and then CHANGE AGAIN. You know that kind, right? As we know, I was all full of the sads when this guy went missing... (And by missing I mean someone else wisely bought it and broke my heart... Continue reading

This, week two of the One Room Challenge, has been a week of deliveries, paint samples, and heartbreak. Yes. Heartbreak. I am a girl who knows better than to fall in love with something vintage and NOT PULL THE TRIGGER IMMEDIATELY. I should have known that this bonkers-good light fixture wouldn't last long. To be honest, the price was a bit steep for my budget, so I was trying to justify it in my head. I think the real justification is that it was unique, one-of-a-kind, and when something is amazeballs you should really just get it. As the wise... Continue reading

Several years ago, when I realized that blogging was a thing that you didn't need computer programming skillz to do, I started a blog. And then I started following blogs. And then after a little while I learned about this thing called the One Room Challenge, and it was like hitting the jackpot answer to the question "what decor blogs should I follow?" Twice a year, 20 featured designers tackled their renovations from start through to completion in just 6 short weeks and documented the processes on their blogs. Linda, from Calling it Home, is the mastermind behind the event,... Continue reading

When digging through my photos on my phone, I found several past projects that I never shared on the blog. Sometimes I fall into the "my photos aren't good enough" trap, and end up not sharing my spaces because they are just my amateur photos, and not the super-staged, meant-for-print-pages photos that people have come to expect. Pinterest, professional blogs, online magazines, etc. have raised the bar on photographic content, and I'm not so skilled at photography that I think I can compete. But whatever. I am sharing them anyway. Just pretend I'm your bestie who is just texting you... Continue reading

As I reveal the final space in "Project Kitchen Update," I have to admit something; there isn't a single before photo of this space. I asked Mrs. Project Kitchen Update if she had any, and her reply was: Poor guy. He was so plain that neither of us gave him a second thought/took a picture of him. I need to be better. This would would have been a dramatic transformation, and you would have tipped right off of your chair if you could see the before/after. (You may tip over anyway, when you see the situation that is now going... Continue reading

Ready for some more before-and-after action? I figure most of the words were said in the last post, so we are really just here for a few small comments and some pictures, don't you think? To recap, the laundry room was a narrow space that barely had room to open the doors on the front-loading machines. There was a sink and some storage, but there really wasn't a place for coats and hats and shoes and stuff in this pass-thru mudroom/laundry... To summarize/oversimplify what we did to increase function (and form!): The area where the growth chart is hanging is... Continue reading

I'm not sure what my problem is, but I am really bad a remembering to take "before" pictures. I am also really bad at understanding where my photos go once they leave my phone for life in the "cloud." I just can't keep track of all of these technological "advances." Thank goodness my clientfriend was on the ball. *wipes brow* In any case, I'm here to share a before and after story. It really is mostly a series of after photos that I took on my iPad because my phone decided to rid itself of battery life for no apparent... Continue reading
