One of my favorite North County spots is the San Diego Zoo's Safari Park, formerly known as the Wild Animal Park and still called "WAP" by many locals. For anyone who has not been to the park, it certainly should be on your list of things to do when in... Continue reading

No, this isn't about the federal government shuffling statistics to make things look better - although that would not be surprising. This is about a report in USAToday about the District of Columbia Public Schools having some very questionable results... Continue reading

In February I took a coast run from Oceanside down to Ocean Beach just to get out and take some photos. Oceanside was a disappointment, mostly because of the heavy overcast when I got there. It was my first time going to O-side's harbor and coast, believe it or not,... Continue reading

Balboa Park has often been called The Jewel of San Diego, and rightly so. With a range of museums, the San Diego Zoo, and plenty of open space for recreation, it has something to offer just about anyone. I especially enjoy just walking around El Prado, which is the "main... Continue reading

Last November I had the chance to check out an interesting restaurant in the South Park neighborhood - The South Park Abbey. The occasion was a special Open Mic Night featuring Meliki, a talented and charming Australian singer/songwriter who was doing a quick West Coast tour (you can check out... Continue reading

Welcome to my new blog, "What's Happening, San Diego?" For some time now I've been sitting on stories that didn't fit in any of the other blogs I write/edit/etc., so I decided to create a new blog just so I can talk about all things San Diego...or at least the... Continue reading

A most interesting and intriguing - and may I add auspicious - beginning to a new story. Sorry, I guess I got caught up in the tone of your tome.

A wonderful tribute, Kevin. Both Craig and Raul will be missed not only locally but far beyond for all their contributions to theatre and community.

Previously I compared public education and Communism. The comparison was not good for either system, but there is good news - at least for public education. We have seen that in general the only way to "improve" Communism is to... Continue reading

Last we saw the Recovering Teacher, he had just compared Public Education with Communism. Since he wasn't sent to Siberia (or East LA), let's see what he has to say this time... I want to follow up on my Communism... Continue reading

I'm starting to feel "out of the loop" not having a smart phone. Up until now I didn't see a need for it, but with the apps they are coming out with, maybe it's time to start looking at them more seriously. As for replacing the PC, I think desktops at least have already been replaced.
