I'm at that place where I seem to have less time, but my brain reminds me I have the same 168 hours a week that I did before. That tells me that I have to make some changes in the... Continue reading

One thing I find odd about Christmas and Thanksgiving is that people notice hunger and poverty at these times. People who never think about the homeless or poor suddenly do at these times. They even notice that there are some... Continue reading

Wow. How much can you pack into one week? My brain is spinning! I left home Monday morning to drive to Little Rock, Arkansas to attend a conference about doing really great things for God's Kingdom with the resources you... Continue reading

I have been challenged the past several weeks by some words. "In the same way, when you obey me, you should say, "We are unworthy servants who have simply done our duty." In my black & white mind, I agree... Continue reading

Jack and I are so excited! We're parents again! Okay, not truly parents, but sponsors. Together with our friend Kristina Birkhead, we are now sponsoring four-year-old Judine Pierre. Isn't she just the most beautiful little girl? She was born on... Continue reading

The problem: arthritis in my hand -- at the moment my left thumb. The pictures said there's little cartilage in the joint at the base. The solution of the moment: cortisone. I don't know how many of you have experienced... Continue reading

I don't know if you know about Margaret Feinberg. I'd heard her name and seen her picture before, but at Catalyst I was introduced to her when she stood on the stage and declared that her book Scouting the Divine... Continue reading

No offense taken, but please consider your stereotyping. Faith is simple. It's a gift from God. Whether a person is educated or not doesn't mean their faith is wrong or stupid. Nor does their dress. My husband's grandfather was ostracized from his UMC church way back when because the metal on his overalls "scratched" the pews. (Funny since those are on the front.) Yet a more faithful man, one who lived the Word wasn't to be found. This man may well be educated. He may well have attended seminary. He may not. His accent nor his clothing have anything to do with his beliefs.

Do you ever wonder if God really cares about you personally? I mean, He's so busy with major things like earthquakes and tsunamis and poverty and slavery and all that stuff. Why would He even bother with your headache or... Continue reading

Jon Acuff is a man whose words entered my life about a year ago and whom I met earlier this month. I listened to him in a workshop with Anne Jackson and Carlos Whittaker talking about life "Off the Blogs".... Continue reading

You, my friends and family, are wonderful! So many of you complimented me -- some even saying I'm photogenic (those who did should schedule appointments with your optometrists!) After listening to you and looking at the photos myself several times,... Continue reading

About a year ago, Jack and I were having dinner out at our favorite little Townsend Restaurant, The Back Porch. After placing our order, he held my hands across the table looking very uncomfortable as if he had something to... Continue reading

I've heard people talk about how children shouldn't be taken on mission and/or ministry visits with us older folks when we go. I've had the joy of seeing my grandson's life changed because we have invited him to join us... Continue reading

I received so much good at Catalyst. I heard God speak to my heart. I'm still processing a lot of it, figuring out how He wants me to implement those things in my life. This video, though, shows what I... Continue reading

I am so happy that my daughter-in-law, Tanisha, has started going with us to serve the homeless in Knoxville. The last two times we've gone, she brought Nicholas, our seven-year-old grandson with her. He has had a blast! In September,... Continue reading

So many people mock the use of social media as self-indulgent, saying that it feeds an inner need for recognition. Okay. Maybe it does. Maybe it doesn't. However, just like the medium of movies, radio, television, and the Internet, it... Continue reading

Not long ago, I shared how our student ministry, The ConneXion, was told that we couldn't continue to minister to the homeless where we had been. I thought that was a bad thing. Now I can tell you that indeed,... Continue reading

How amazing is it when God hears our prayers and answers them! I've asked for the past several days, in preparation for Catalyst, that He would speak very plainly to me through this time. Oh how He has done so!... Continue reading

So, I wasn't able to stay connected well yesterday, because Gwinnett Center is this HUGE metal building and when you go into those rooms, they're like a cave where nothing gets in. Today's plan is different. Instead of trying to... Continue reading
