The Balinese always let their offerings left on shrines outdoors decay like that. There is often a piece of cloth wrapped around them that has been exposed to the elements for months and months until it disintegrates. Gorgeous.

As Eva said: a weird bunny, not a cute one. That's a relief! Reminds me somehow of those slightly menacing carved creatures on old merry-go-rounds: the pre-Walt-Disney-Animal-Kingdom. When I bring back figures of animals from Bali I often receive the complaint that they're not cute enough, that they're not smiling. Grrrrrr.

Emerging from dream this morning, I found there were two words deposited in my head, and I was convinced that they were a response to your post. One of them was the word "spot" and the other I forgot as consciousness fully returned. Ah well. Half a post is better than none at all.

It is only natural that when you dedicate yourself to something you begin to define it as an art. And it's natural when one gets serious about making art that one tends to get a little theoretical about it. And likewise it is natural that one questions those abstractions born of self-consciousness and self-analysis, worrying that they are mere pretensions, and feeling nostalgic for a certain care-free freshness of approach that long experience seems to make less possible. But that whole dilemma IS the creative process: expansion and contraction. Better not to reject either term of the equation, better to balance in-between...on a thread as it were.
