The Surgery, Part One
I mentioned I'm recovering from a pretty major hip surgery. I've debated whether to share the details here, but I have decided I will. I will document my progress as an encouraging reminder to myself that I'm healing. Also, as I prepared myself for this surgery, I didn't find a... Continue reading

Sharing Sick
I really don't have time to get sick. And while I don't consider myself a germophobe, I'm extra careful this time of year--hand sanitizer, extra handwashing, etc. There are things to be done around here, and five days in bed with the flu just won't cut it. Unless. Unless my... Continue reading

A Thimbleful of Steadfastness
I've been in a trial of late. The kind where my old nemesis anxiety sets up camp and tries to take over, and the inside of my own head becomes the battleground. And then, in addition to the trial itself, there arrives the guilt over the stickiness of the worried... Continue reading

Mommy
I was first called "Mommy" on my 28th birthday. I had already been a mother for over three years, but my oldest child had a moderate speech delay that kept him on the toddlerish "ma-ma" longer than is probably typical. But on that day, my birthday, my preschooler suddently piped... Continue reading

How (Not) To Teach a Boy To Drive
***This post has been syndicated at BlogHer.*** When those hospital nurses place that baby in your arms and wheel you out to your car, they give you all kinds of health tips and safety checklists. They warn you about lead paint. They warn you about tummy sleeping. They even tell... Continue reading

(Is This Thing Still On?)
Well, hello there, Internetland. I'm thinking about blogging again. (There. I said it.) After a long and much-needed absence from this place, I feel a nudge back. Mostly from my kids, who say they enjoy my writing (which may just be a really nice way to say that if I... Continue reading

Thank you for saying that, dear Sandy. I know the teenage years have their challenges, but so far, I'm enjoying my 13 year old boy more than I ever have, in his whole life.
Mystery
He walked into the kitchen while I chopped onions for dinner. He began to talk about a new video game release, and I, being distracted, gave some distant mumbles of assent. Suddenly, he walked up to me. "Mom, you look like you need a hug." Then he hugged me. And held me. He's 13, nearly 14. The...
I'm glad they were happy tears...because it's nothing to dread! Just a different kind of happy!

Thanks, Aimee! You knew him when he was still a little peanut of a thing! :)

More sweet than bitter, I promise! There's nothing like those baby days, but watching a boy become a man? Well, it's the best show I've ever seen.

Chin up, sister. It's a bumpy road, but the destination will be sweet!

Please do not. I had a co-author who was the real technical brains behind the whole deal, Melanie of www.bloggingbasics101.com . But I'm so glad the book is even a little helpful!

Love your blog and have been reading for a couple of months. In a funny small world, I was one of the authors of the TypePad for Dummies book, so I hope it's been helpful to you (I know the platform has gone through so many changes just in the 12 months since it was published!). Anyway, just thought I'd tell you that--keep up the good blogging work!

Yes! That's it exactly. We thankfully didn't get much ice this time around, but the amount of snow is overwhelming. And Hubs has driven to work only to see snow plows STUCK IN THE SNOW. So you're absolutely right!
Cold, Cold, Cold
I thought it might be a really creative idea to write a blog post about The Blizzard Of 2011, since I'm sure this notion hadn't occured to any of the other 100 million Americans affected by the storm. First, I interject the disclaimer that yes, all you people up north, I know that you aren't int...
That's awful! You poor thing. I shoveled part of driveway, and two days later, my arms STILL hurt!

Alive and Kicking
Hi, I'm Shannon. Once upon a time I blogged here, and then I took an entirely unplanned break, and then I started getting e-mails asking me if I had died. So it seemed like I should pop in and put those concerns to rest: I have not died, run away,... Continue reading

No, regular beadboard with a ton of waterproof/silicon backing. My husband looked up the details of how to do it in print, and I'm not sure I still have access to the resource he used. Ask around next time you're at a Lowe's/Home Depot type of store--I bet they could help you!
Aaaaand...DONE.
In February, Hubs and I started remodeling our master bathroom. More accurately, I should say that in February, Hubs and I casually wondered what was under the wallpaper, so we peeled a corner. Which revealed damaged drywall. Which revealed a roof leak. Which revealed the need to scrape popcorn...

Beautiful!
Tummy Time {Newborn Photography}
Sage. Not the Herb. Not the Color. But a beautiful baby girl. She was an awesome sleeper, with her mommy's touch. What is it about newborns that is so inspiring?... well when they aren't yours. Daddy's little girl. XOXO
