I want to like this kid, but I'm having a hard time so far. I didn't like his cheap head shot and thought he deserved every game of that suspension. I don't like this either. Walk away dude, it won't be the last time you get challenged by some drunk in a bar.
I hope he's learning from all this. I want tough, clean hockey on the ice and a clean nose off the ice. Right now I don't know if this kid can deliver that.
Report: Kassian formally charged
Zack Kassian, the Sabres' first-round draft pick last year, has formally been charged with assault today following a weekend altercation in Windsor, Ont., the Windsor Star is reporting. Kassian allegedly punched a man at a bar at 1:50 a.m. Sunday and was taken into custody, then released. Police...
Yes, but the PK was off in the playoffs too, unfortunately.
It all went bad.
Cleaning up
The Sabres will report to HSBC Arena this afternoon to clean out their lockers. I wonder if anyone will find the power play under an old pair of socks. ---John Vogl
Mike Grier showed in game 5 why he is here. A veteran leading by example in the playoffs.
Grier: Rookies better for the experience
The Sabres haven't had enough production from their so-called top players, but their rookies did play well in the first four playoff games and will be better down the road. The experience is certain to accelerate their development and will make them better next season. Defenseman Tyler Myers, a...
Gerbe-Ennis-Stafford looked nice together on that powerplay. Gerbe stays in for game 6, maybe he lines up with Ennis.
Ennis, Gerbe on power play; Vanek, Torres out
Sabres captain Craig Rivet, flanked by Tyler Ennis and Nathan Gerbe, took one knee at the blue line for a chat with the rookie wingers. It undoubtedly was a talk about the power play because they are all going to be on the same unit tonight. Buffalo is changing its 0-for-14 man-advantage unit in ...

They targeted Sobotka big time in game 5. They rode him hard all night.
Sobotka has no message for Lindy
Marc Savard is back skating with the Bruins but his return is not imminent. A major outgrowth of his injury, however, has been increased playing time for Vladimir Sobotka, a 5-foot-10 pepperpot of energy who has emerged as one of the surprising players in the series. Sobotka is clearly under the...
I hate NHL officiating almost as much as I hate MSG. Both have been horrible.
They said it after Game 4
BOSTON -- Lots of chatter I'm hearing that MSG did a quick signoff after the Sabres' double-overtime loss. Ridiculous but they only have a three-hour window and it costs more to stay on the air. This franchise has a joke of a TV operation without a regional network in town. Anyway, here's some p...
"Need more attack." Amen, brother.
Hear from Vanek and Lindy
Thomas Vanek speaks to the media about his injury and Lindy Ruff talks about Vanek and a whole lot of other topics heading into Game Three: Vanek: Ruff:
Good news for sure. He's been the team's best forward since he came back. Need the rest of the top 6 to step up. Need the bangers to bang and the grinders to grind. Need the leaders to lead. Need to see some passion and fire.
These next couple of games will show what this team's made of.
Vanek doubtful for Monday but will return in series
Thomas Vanek and Lindy Ruff reached the same conclusion Sunday after the Sabres' optional workout: Vanek will likely play again in this series against the Boston Bruins although it's highly doubtful the star winger plays in Game Three Monday night in Boston, as he was walking with a pronounced...
No problems with that hit. It was shoulder on shoulder and it wasn't late. Boychuk chased the puck in and poked it a couple of times just before Myers laid the boom on him.
The ice level angle showed a good view. I watched it a couple times when they replayed it for Carubba. It was clean and the ref saw it clearly. Boychuk looked right at the ref as he took a number. Good hit, good no call.
I would be surprised if the league even commented on this, much less took any action against Myers.
Myers on hit: Just playing the play hard
Tyler Myers is used to media attention. Folks always want to talk about his fine rookie season. Today, the reporters surrounded him to talk about a questionable hit. "Till just now I didn’t realize it was an issue at all,'' Myers said after practice. The Bruins aren't happy with Myers' hit on Jo...
That was just Myers saying "Excuse me, kind sir, I understand there is a hockey puck back here."
Seriously though, the lower angle showed it better. The hit was more lateral than blindside and it was shoulder on shoulder. The Bruins are mad if they think anything will come of that from the league.
Myers' Hit
It was unclear after Thursday's game what Bruins coach Claude Julien was referring to when he suggested the league take a look at a hit by one of the Sabres. I thought he was talking about Thomas Vanek's hit on Blake Wheeler in the corner. But Julien was probably upset about this questionable hi...
It will be interesting to see how physical this series gets. You know Kaleta will be charged up, which could lead to some nice powerplay opportunities.
Talking passionately
Aggression figures to be one of the key words of the series, based on quotes from Sabres coach Lindy Ruff and Boston forward Milan Lucic. Ruff: "I’m a big believer in really trying to get after it in the playoffs. I don’t know if you can point to a playoff series that we really tried to win it d...

@ roy: you have to embrace the DEPTH of this team. Instead, you are looking for superstar forwards. Like it or not (and clearly you don't), that's how this team is built - on depth.
Lindy optimistic on injuries
There's good news on the injury front for the Buffalo Sabres heading into Thursday's opener of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Coach Lindy Ruff said today he's "optimistic" that center Tim Connolly will be ready for Game One against the Boston Bruins after the center skated on his own over the weekend...
I like the lines. If Ennis fits in on that top line - and I hope he does - I'd leave it be. Even if/when Hecht is ready.
Hecht had an injured hand/finger last year and I think it was a big part of his horrid year. Why would you want to put an injured/recovering Hecht on the top line? I know that group had some success this year, but Hecht's hands were always the weak spot of the line anyway. Now he's dealing with a finger injury which won't help.
I like Hecht for his defensive game. IMO, he will give the team the most value in the playoffs on a shutdown line.
Live from practice: Connolly returns
As Lindy Ruff predicted Monday, Tim Connolly has returned to Sabres practice today in HSBC Arena. Jochen Hecht was on the ice early doing some shooting drills and is back out for the workout but is a backup on his line. No sign of Drew Stafford. The units look like this: Ennis-Connolly-Pominvil...
I really like those line combinations at 10:30 pm. You could truly roll four lines right there. Great way to wear down a defensive team like the Bruins. I just don't know if Lindy will put Hecht on the 4th line.

I liked what was happening with Kennedy on Vanek's line before Vanek went down. Maybe the best part of Kennedy's game is his work behind the net. And one of the best in the NHL in front of the net is Vanek. It looked like a good fit.
I'd keep the Vanek-Roy-Kennedy line together. Stafford's injury makes that an easier decision.

@ Obvious Truth: where are you getting this? Connolly plays a defensively responsible game. As chuck pointed out, he gets 1st unit PK minutes and he's also a playoff performer. Keep him on the bench? You must be a Bruins troll.
And you're living in the past on the "injury prone" thing. How very 2008 of you. He's played about 100 straight games before this foot injury.
Anyway, I'd love to see an Ennis-Connolly-Pominville line. Watch them create. I want Hecht on a solid shutdown line for the playoffs.
