So sorry for your loss.
Your broken hearts will heal and leave a space for Blur to live in your hearts forever.
Just a week ago we lost our tuxedo cat, the little burglar could open any door that didn't have a lock on it.
My husband and I have this framed on the wall of the room our pets sleep in. I don't know if the kids would
understand, but to believe in this softens the loss of our best friends.

Telling the Kids
I wrote the post yesterday while the kids were still at school. I wrote it out, I cried when I needed to, and then I made some rye bread. Because life has to go on. Bread needs to be baked. And, later, children get out of school. And then they have to be told. I was dreading that. Bill and ...
So sad. Sometimes I think kids bounce back faster than we do. I'll say "do you remember 'Oscar' the turtle or 'Whitey' the mouse & they'll say I forgot, then maybe remember because I want them to. This always triggers one of those do you remember when conversations.
Our caskets were those sliding matchboxes....the type kitchen & camping matches used to come in, maybe they still do.
Perhaps it Was the Name
But at the time, the name seemed appropriate. Lucky. Hatched from an unexpected egg, and he survived being in the same tank as his huge, predatory mother. So “Lucky” seemed like a valid name. I’d read that it’s very difficult to raise baby anoles in captivity. Very tricky. They’re complicated...
Hmm, there's 4X steel wool which stands for super fine. There's 4X sugar and that's super fine. She must be a fine sweet chick.
Meet My Namesake
I was named after my two grandmothers. My mother’s mother’s name was Emma Jane, and my mom thought “Emma” was a bit too old fashioned at the time (it’s fairly popular now, I’ve noticed), so she just used the “Jane” part, and, I don’t know, modernized it a bit by sticking the Y in the middle of ...
And I thought I was the only one to need a backpack to carry my family around in. Ruth....my Mom's unmarried last name, Ann....my grandfathers favorite sister, Sarah.....My Dad's Mom and my Mother's G-grandmom. Hail, hail the gangs all here. Can't escape our heritage. It helps the kids when we research the fam. tree. These are the connections.
A note on Jayne and her feathered family. Be careful around the children. My #1 son raises chickens, my #3 son's mother-in-law also. There's always going to be one chick that enjoys being carried around and sort of cuddled. Can you cuddle a chicken? This can result in a few visits to the emergency room. We learned the hard way that besides trying to eat the buttons off your shirt, (no pain for chicks or us there) shiny eyes are a great target. Don't know why but anything shiny is like a magnet for those critters. Otherwise, they're neat & fun to have.
HUG A CHICKEN TODAY.

Your photos make me want to dig in.
Have a PA Dutch background and want to do a funnel cake comparison.
I googled Scherben and came up with an unhappy baker.

Wonder what went wrong for her?
TWD - Mrs. Vogel's Scherben
I haven't baked along with the rest of the Tuesdays with Dorie since...November, I think. I bowed out for the month of December because I knew I wouldn't have time to do everything, and so participation in TWD would have to wait. I didn't even think about it last week, but yesterday it occurr...
What a neat idea. If you go visiting and your assignment is to bring a cheese assortment, what better way to travel with them. My husband has a brother and three sisters. Every year one sister will call and say "we're coming up". Boy do we have a house full then. I usually bake something different every day in Dec. They always wait to see if I can top my number of varieties each year. We also take treats to one another's home when we visit.
Awesome Giveaway!!
Okay, do you remember last December I did three different posts about Brie? Brie that I was wrapping in puff pastry dough, with varying degrees of success? Of course you remember, because my posts are SO incredibly important in your busy life. Since you probably don't remember (and you have a l...
Make me one? Id love it!
I stumbled onto your site long ago while searching for a recipe, I bookmarked you and dont think Ive missed a day since. Watching your children is like revisiting my boys (3) childhood. Its so enjoyable to see a Mom that makes real food instead of fast food junk for their family.
(sorry, tried to reply via TypePad reply but some glitch on my end wouldnt allow the send or preview to highlight, even after I signed in. Oh well here I am)
What's Going on in the Barefoot Kitchen Today?
Am I making cookies? NOT YET! I know I'm just setting myself up for panic and all-night baking sessions, but you know what? I DON'T CARE! I'm embracing the chaos. So here's what else is going on... More paper casting projects - including things like this: I haven't put that on Etsy yet - b...
There IS a Mrs. Man in the Moon! She's wearing an earring. How nice!
