As daunting as it is to try to catch up with everything, the more time I procrastinate about it, the worse it gets. So here goes. I call it "Life on Mars." This was sent to Judy Staroscik on IUOMA. It's number 27 of my Mail Art 365. (No guilt... Continue reading

Thanks, Jeanie, for letting me know that was you! Sometimes the comments show up weird, I don't really know why. Theoretically, you should be able to sign in using Blogger or Google or whatever, or just name/email, but sometimes they still come out wonky. I try not to completely disappear like that, but it does happen occasionally. I start to forget why I was doing all that work keeping up with things and just drift away. But I'm working my way back now.

Can you believe it - I didn't receive a single postcard through Postcrossing in the month of December! I sent out the same number, but I guess sometimes it just happens that way. Whether it's because they were coming from places with slow mail systems, or the various holidays meant... Continue reading

You may or may not have noticed, but I sort of fell off the edge of the internet. I kept thinking about how I should blog, but I never managed to actually open up an entry window. Part of that was because my kids were here at the end of... Continue reading

It's been a week. I kept telling myself I needed to write a blog post, but it just didn't get done on any of these days. But I'm here now - better late than never! I've sent some mail. For example: In this case, the words were lines cobbled together... Continue reading

My mailbox was happy a couple of days ago as this postcard from Cindy Moser on IUOMA arrived. I enjoy these kinds of themed works, maybe because I'm not that great at pulling together such focused (ha! see what I did there?) elements. I have to admit I'm a tiny... Continue reading

I haven't talked much about photography on this blog recently, for a variety of reasons. My main interest has been acquiring and using film cameras. It's my primary motivation for going to estate sales. Yesterday we went to one that was amazing as far as cameras go. They had a... Continue reading

A while ago, I was planning to write a blog entry. Then suddenly, it's hours later and I haven't even started. I'm not sure how that happens, exactly. But in any event, I'm here now and ready to write. Let's start off with a piece of mail that just arrived.... Continue reading

Saturday was the monthly free day at the Denver Art Museum. I decided to brave the crowds and head over there to see about doing some drawing. I've never tried drawing at a museum before. Besides the fact that I am usually there trying to see as much as possible,... Continue reading

Finally I had some time to work on my drawing of the couple. In case you've forgotten what it looked like last time, this post is when we saw it last. As I said before, I didn't have much time to work on it for several days, so there wasn't... Continue reading

Well, I figured out a way to make quick progress on my Mail Art 365 project - make one piece and then cut it up before sending it out! I'm kidding, mostly, but I did try an experiment doing exactly that. Clockwise from top left, they were sent to Angie... Continue reading

That's me. I ... I don't even know how, really. The days just got away from me and now I'm looking at the mess of my desk and the digital mess of my files and trying to figure out where to begin. I also had a loaner computer for a... Continue reading

I've mentioned Nick Bantock before as an inspiration for mail art. But I haven't really done much that is similar to him, or attempted to be similar to his work. I love looking at what he creates, but the attention to detail, the creation of so much faux ephemera and... Continue reading

I was reading something a couple of days ago about the possibility of mail service going down to 5 days a week. The topic isn't new, but the responses to it I read made me sad anyway. Lots of people saying "who cares? I pay my bills online anyway." I... Continue reading

The last few days have been good in terms of getting some work done. Or if not done, then at least making progress. First up, making progress: This was what it looked like at the end of the day on the 13th. I guess you'd really have to look at... Continue reading

Let's see here, what have I been doing recently? I sent some mail to Thom Courcelle. I hand-colored this image, and it's on a background of oil pastel colors. Here's the back of that one: I'm liking using these order forms from old magazines as address labels. I also sent... Continue reading

So, there's no mail service in the US today. It's mildly disappointing, because I usually use Sunday to work on outgoing mail and then send it off on Monday. I guess this way I just get an extra day to create. I have received some cool things recently, though, so... Continue reading

As part of my Mail Art 365 project, I opened the offer up to people I know on Facebook and G+ as well as the usual suspects on IUOMA (that offer still stands, if you're out there and interested). I let people tell me what type of thing they'd like,... Continue reading

Actually, the first one is still in the post, but the other one has arrived. Onward! This is 12/365. Sometimes I don't know what to say about these except that they're sort of a visual free-association exercise. Water and military and music, I guess. Sometimes I wonder if I'm "supposed"... I've been working with dots again. First, there wasn't much to talk about: Then, there was more: And now, this is about where I stand: Progress pictures are kind of fun to look at, I think. They give you an idea of how these things really take shape - it's... Continue reading

Here we are, starting another week. I got a couple of postcards through Postcrossing recently, both from Germany, as luck would have it. This one is from Hamburg. Love that sunset! And an art card. I'm always happy for whatever kind of card I get, but it's nice to get... Continue reading

I've got a couple of mail art 365 items that I've sent out which will take a while to get to their destinations. International mail is pretty hit or miss, although most of Europe doesn't take more than a week, while Canada is anyone's guess. But one piece has arrived... Continue reading

Sent some art to Emily this week that's a little bit more useful instead of just decorative. I had cut a piece of cardboard off the last mail art I did, and realized it was the perfect size for a bookmark. She's always been a big reader, and I'm sure... Continue reading

Yesterday was a day where it seemed like everything I touched, artistically speaking, turned to crap. Those days definitely happen, but it's frustrating. How I respond to them varies - sometimes I give it up for the time being and work on something else (much like the days when I'm... Continue reading
