I remember being at work. One of our scheduling analysts who kept a radio on at his desk told us about the first plane. At that point we were thinking it was some sort of accident. When the second plane hit, we knew it was not an accident, and people started getting worried. We had televisions down in the cafeteria and people started congregating in those areas. When I got home that night I felt like I had to stay glued to the television. It was a strange sensation - not wanting to see what was there but feeling an overwhelming urge to have to watch it. It was emotionally tiring. I worried about what was to come. We have been so fortunate in America to not have had much war on our soil. Was this the beginning of something horrible to come?
CraZy RandOm Life - I Remember - September 11
I Remember... 1. My niece McKenzie called me on September 11. She told me to turn on my TV. A plane had hit the world trade center. 2. We were talking and watching the news when the second plane hit. 3. My mind was saying, "Did that just happen?!" 4. I called my brother on the Pacific Coa...
This is fun to think back over the years!
1. My very first job like many people, was babysitting
2. My first job in a business was playing honky-tonk piano at Shakey's Pizza Parlor!
3. I worked in the Summer Session office at the University of Virginia during the summers while I was in college.
4. I taught music for three years in the Yorktown, VA public schools (strings)
5. I then went to work as a secretary
6. I then got into Call Center work as an analyst and then as a manager
7. I now work as a workforce technology manager for an insurance company.
8. I did lots of volunteer work in different places over the years in medical clinics, a rehab center, and I now make lap afghans for a local organization that makes comfort items for cancer patients.
9. I've also made a little money playing violin and piano - solo, and as part of a string quartet.

I don't have a lot to match the wonderful memories you ladies have had, but I think the most romantic thing my husband has done is continued to call me every day at lunch time for the past 28 years. He might not be big on shows of affection, but that call every day tells me that he is thinking about me....
Romantic Memories - Tuesday, February 14
Most Romantic Memories Some things are obviously too personal to write on a public blog (so I'll write those things somewhere I can save them privately) As for my shareable "most romantic memories"... 1. Our first anniversary - I got up really early to sneak out of our apartment to go to a ba...
Well, I went to work, but I got two things done at work that I've been struggling to find time to do - annual reviews and quality for January!
Morning - Friday, February 10
Straighten-Up-Date! My work space can get pretty piled up. When it does, I don't want to work. So this morning... 1. I got up early (about 5:30 AM) so I could spend time updating Kevin's business card. (He has been asking me to do this for a few weeks now.) 2. I spent time organizing m...
I wish I could once and for all get a handle on my weight and exercise daily.
I wish I could overcome my shyness. I am much better than I used to be and care less about people's opinions of me, but I still battle the fear and force myself to take that first step.
I wish I had zillions of dollars to buy every craft goodie on the planet!
I wish I could house every homeless pet and give them love every day.
I wish I could make a living with my crafting and could give up my day job.
I wish I could afford a housekeeper, a cook, a gardener, a valet, let's see...what else?
I wish I lived closer to my grandkids, so I could see them in their school plays, and watch their baseball games and see them cheer.
Then....I wish I could learn to be satisfied with what I have, and not wish for anything!
What I Wish For... Sunday, February 5
Wishes for myself When I was a girl in Junior High School I wished I had a smaller nose. I wished for perfect skin, better hair, a great wardrobe, and for everyone to like me. As each decade has passed by, the things I want and expect for myself change. So, here I am in my 4th decade. What...

Monticello - Page Process
Last June we went on a day trip to Thomas Jefferson's Monticello. We knew it was going to be a hot day in Virginia; so, we left early to arrive when they opened, first thing in the morning. Monticello is a gorgeous historical site. It sits on top of a mountain in Charlottesville, Virginia. The...
Things I remember about being 10:
1. I got an awful permanent for the school pictures - I hated it but Mom thought it was great!
2. We had an international student in our class from Australia.
3. My Dad was working on his dissertation while serving as an Assitant Professor at the University
4. Every night Mom was typing the dissertation - back then there were no word processors - it had to be typed - 4 copies and they had to be perfect - no errors!
5. We had roast for dinner every Sunday
6. I used to play with my Barbies in the front yard - I was in girl scouts and liked to take them "camping."
7. I got a toy organ for Christmas - my first keyboard at home.
8. I started violin lessons. In school at the time, for whatever reason, you could start strings in 4th grade, but you had to wait until 5th grade for band. Dad also had a violin I could use so violin it was! Of course, it later turned into a career, when I majored in music in college and became an orchestra teacher!
9. They started building an apartment building right next to our house - in the woods I used to play in. Things really began to change. Two years later, we moved into a brand new house, when Dad got his doctorate and became a full professor.
10. It was the year Kennedy was shot. I remember hearing about it when I was in music class, and when I returned to my classroom I told the teacher - she didn't believe me! Later that day she found out too, and then told the class.
Wow - when I first read the challenge, I was wondering how I could possibly think of 10 things about being 10 - but once you start writing - all the memories start coming back!
