Hi Ardice, there is a tutorial for the buttons, see here http://onechurchillsgreen.typepad.com/onechurchillsgreen/2012/10/buttons-pretty-buttons.html
Basically, you run a series of blanket stitches over the top of a yarn loop (creating by wrapping yarn around a pencil or knitting needle), so nothing required apart from yarn and a tapestry needle. Let me know if you can't access the link. Sx
Anyone for a cuppa?
I'm just back from my second Macmillan coffee morning of the day! No breakfast or lunch today, just cake all the way!!! I'm always happy to eat cake, but definitely prefer my tea to my coffee (my heart just can't take the rush of caffeine) and whilst I've photographed my treasured tea pot before...
It's been a while.....
I had no idea it was being translated and printed in Sweden, so that's five languages now - English, US English, Spanish, French and Swedish! If only I could read them all ;) xxx Continue reading

A glimpse of Spring ......
Having swooned at the sight of Emma's beautiful tiny silver spools a couple of weeks ago, I asked if they were filled with vintage thread - I thought I'd share some of the pretty pastels I've collected over the years. Continue reading

Creativity can be a bit like a 137 bus on the Queenstown Road, Battersea - there's never one when you're looking and then when you least expect it, three of them arrive at once! Continue reading

Christmas Tree Festival
I had been looking for a suitable yarn for winter snowflakes since last Christmas - I can't seem to master the starching or sugar syruping required to stiffen cotton. Continue reading

Soft, snuggly yarns... winter must be here!
Using a 5mm hook, just work 32-42 ch, depending on the length desired, then 24 rows dc front loop only to produce the pattern shown. Slip stitch the two edges together, 8sts, miss 10 sts for the thumb hole, then sl st to end before fastening off and weaving in. You'll find the birds-eye button tutorial in the 'free pattern' section of this blog. Continue reading

Friendship bracelet 'how to'....
If you'd like to include beads or crystals as I did in the previous post, thread the required amount onto your yarn before starting the cord. Move the bead into position after you have hooked the yarn through the 2 loops, before completing the double crochet. Continue reading

A token of friendship....
Thanks to my patient crochet teacher Lena, I have learnt to make a macrame crochet cord and whilst this is just the base for something altogether more technical and elaborate, as soon as I saw it I knew it would make for pretty, summer bracelets for my 11 year old and her friends. Continue reading

Simple treasures .......
Pipi's collection of feathers is filling out beautifully. Dante is more inclined to gather stones - mainly large, predominantly non-descript, but in a departure from the norm, he stumbled upon an interesting little bone (we suspect it's part of a duck's skull with what looks like a long bill) and a skeletal leaf... Linen tape, satin bows & butterflies ......
I pulled out the original stencil (still available from the fantastic online Stencil Library) and having chosen her paint colour, she painted her own winged beauties onto some lining paper. Hanging in simple frames, she can now take her butterflies with her wherever she goes! Continue reading
