Hey people! Former blurker turned blogger here. I contacted a friend in Bath and got this explanation that solves the mystery: A garden tractor pulling a small float apparently lost the brakes going down center street hill and careened down the hill out of control. A parade watcher foolishly was off the sidewalk (don't know if he thought he'd be a hero and stop the tractor or just wasn't paying attention) and was hit by the tractor sending him flying and rumor has it, broke his neck when he hit the ground. So they had to take him to Maine Medical in Portland. The story also was that the driver of the tractor had a heart attack when the tractor finally stopped, but I think that was the rumor mill out of control. The sad part was that this was the first year of improved parade safety due to recent parade accidents in other parts of the country. Hmmm!
