http://thesartorialist.blogspot.com -- a streetside view of the fashion world by a talented photographer with a good eye, I find it really inspirational this time of year! And, if you're making your own clothes with BurdaStyle which is a GREAT link you've included, you might also check out http://www.patternreview.com , which is a fantastic community of sewists who give excellent critical reviews of sewing patterns that you can browse, or search by reviewer or pattern company/number. Use it to find 2 or 3 reviewers who are built like you and who have similar fashion taste, and then follow them faithfully and hope that they have a blog. http://selfishseamstress.wordpress.com/ -- one of the most fashion-forward of the sewing bloggers, this one is a pretty funny/bitchy writer. Too damn thin for me to learn much about specific patterns, but her fabric choices and the garment details she emphasizes are helpful.

Two great examples in my opinion of choosing colors that have the same brightness/value to complement each other -- you made a great upgrade to that dress, congrats!

I agree with those who are voting for orange-and-white -- I think that size-wise they show the best balance, and the orange color has photographed really well. Did you see the latest issue of Sew Stylish with the lace-scraps-covered shirt on the cover? They have some advice on sewing on doilies, and while I think the garment on the magazine cover is fugly, their Oscar de la Renta inspiration garment in the article itself is cool. They'd suggest option #2, and adding some strips of lace to the round doilies.
