So what did Orson Welles think of Stanley Kubrick? I know there's a quote out there of Welles favoring The Killing over Asphalt Jungle...maybe nobody cares. Also, I hope Simon Callow is still working on Volume 3 of his Welles books. Thanks for the review, Glenn.

One could produce a DVD Consumer Guide for most of Welles' films. I've read the history, yet I still don't understand.
I want to see Steven Soderbergh's "Korean War" movie. Too bad he bagged it. He was using "Come and See" as inspiration. Bummer!

It's very sad. There has never been a great Western made. I think Stanley Kubrick would agree with this. Steven Soderbergh might, too. All one has to do is read about what actually happened, which is wholly cinematic, and realize that filmmakers have largely failed in "sculpting that time" to the screen for us. I could say adapting "Blood Meridian" is a start but why insist?

Saw "It's All True" last night on Netflix Instant Watch. Beautiful work. Now I'll go back to watching three minute clips of "The Magnificent Ambersons" on youtube and reading Vanity Fair's inside piece on Ambersons for the tenth time. Can we use Navy Seal Team Six to find the lost cut of Ambersons? I suppose, however, that would be violating Brazil's sovereignty. Or Hollywood's.
