Here we go. The move to FACEBOOK happens today. So get moved over. This link, the community link on the site, will push to FACEBOOK sometime today. Request membership in the group and we will approve right away.
It has been fun here, but we have outgrown this tech.
Since the day I launched the COMMUNITY tab on the website, I have been watching this place grow and thrive. It has been very fun. But I know that the problems and errors here are too much to handle. So we depart for a new system.
I know that some of you might not like Facebook. But the decision we made at BTD was already in the works about 6 months ago. We decided and then made the plans to move. Some of you knew earlier than others, because I was in direct contact with you at events like the HollyShorts Festival. But the decision was strictly mine, so don't blame SantaFe Fan or Sunfell for the move. Credit them with offering to help facilitate the move and make it easy for us to find this new home.
When I built this site, I chose the word "Community" for the tab over a lot of other options. One was Fan Club, which seemed a little immature. One was "Forum" which seemed a little too techie. Naming this area "Community" was exactly what Zach and I discussed for the site. It was part of the plan to bring people together. That is a mission that Zach liked from the beginning.
I want to say "Thank You" to Sunfell and Fenraven, who came on a few months into the Community launch to help me to moderate the site. I couldn't be here as often as I needed to be, and they helped to keep an eye out for problems. And there were a couple, but nothing major. As a matter of fact, the people on this site have been respectful and kind, supportive of each other and Zach, and interested in building something together. And I think that we can take that feeling to the new home on Facebook.
The tech on that side... well... it doesn't let us use special screen names. But it is private, so people who aren't members aren't seeing what you post and share. I hope that you all feel comfortable being yourselves (or the selves that you are when you know that everyone in your facebook friend list isn's seeing everything you post).
Use the new tech to bring people together. Use the site to plan to meet in real life, to get together in support of any commonalities you have, even beyond Zach. There is something about Zach and his character that brings you all here. It is something you all share.
So I will leave the lights on here for a little bit more... but later today, this page will disappear. And I will see you on Facebook.
Take care.
Sean
PS. Fen... If you really do choose not to join us, because of your hatred of Facebook, then I wish you the best. The choice was made without knowing that you (or anyone else here) were so anti-facebook. But even now, I would still choose the same system. It isn't a personal decision, but a logical one. It is the best place for building what we have grown and outgrown here. It is the only system that is capable of taking us to the next level, with freedoms and security that other sites don't have. And it is a place where most people already spend time, so this can enhance their experience.
Ning and other social network wanna-bes aren't strong enough to run without good management. And the costs become problematic. We don't make money from running the site and don't plan to spend money to run it. Looking at systems that would cost $100 a month just to allow us to post animated gifs... silly.
Again, Fen, thank you for your help in developing this community. And I hope that you change your mind and join us. You know where to find us.

Facebook isn't a "Big Bad" like some think. It is really a well done system. And totally addictive. Even today, I was commenting on posts with some of the early adopters of the new ZQC and the comments just appear live. It was like chat. So much more interactive than the current system.
I am excited by the potential for more real-time communication.
And the site is CLOSED, so once you request membership (you will be accepted quickly) your posts STAY IN THE COMMUNITY and don't show up on your personal wall.
Consider. No pressure.

After careful consideration, we have decided that the ZQ Community needs a new home. We have been plagued by 500 Errors and odd resizes of pics. And this community needs a few more ways to grow.
I have opened a Facebook Group at the link here. It is a CLOSED group, which means that when you join, everything that is posted will be available to the group, BUT NOT ON YOUR PERSONAL FEED. It should keep a little bit of privacy for you, so that you can interact in the community without everyone of your facebook friends and family seeing what you are doing.
It is not a perfect solution, but it does offer some great things. We can CHAT live with anyone in the group. We can post videos and photos and things, like we normally do. And those pics are not public. They are private. It will make Facebook more fun and will keep us in a system that people are already using.
Now, I know that some of you don't like Facebook. And I am sorry about that. But to grow, we need to make choices based on what technology can support us. And Facebook is the only one that can handle us without a huge fee or building and maintaining a new system. WE just don't have the manpower, with only 4 of us here, to go in for a new system. And the community doesn't make us any money, so it seems a little crazy to spend hundreds each month on something Facebook can offer us for free.
I apologize to those of you who don't want to participate in Facebook. I have tried to find the best solution to keeping the community open for as many people as possible.
Start the transition. Come and join us. I will be removing this community at the end of the week.
Ask to join and one of us will approve you. Some of the community has already moved over and they are going to help me get all of you approved and settled in.

Zach, I know you probably wont see this. Hell I've never done this before I don't know if you or a media company controls this site. I just hope this thanks gets to you. You've saved a persons life tonight. I just needed you to know that...
This community system is really buggy. Sorry about that. I am working on a new version, but it will take a while to get it up and running. Most of the time it is just the servers not really liking something that was posted or running into traffic errors. The system is no longer supported, so it is a bit more hassle than it is worth.
Perhaps we should think about moving the community to Ning.com or another system. Maybe even to Facebook. I am looking for new options.

SGU was a great show. I LOVED it. And I am sad that it didn't last. Stargate was a little hokey and the fans didn't like the dark, more realistic version of SGU. And the Battlestar fans, who would have liked this kind of show, didn't give it the chance because of the Stargate name (thinking it would be cheesy).
It was a rough start... a few episodes in the beginning weren't great, but by the end of the season and getting into season 2, the show was really quite good.

I think the "whirly-cam" effect was done for two reasons. One was to limit the graphic violence by intimating that it was happening, without showing it too much. The other was to suggest the same feelings Katniss would have, overwhelmed by all of the action and mayhem. I thought it was dizzying, but that was the point. We are all watching through the perspective of Katniss and we are treated to the same visuals that she would be experiencing.

I saw The Hunger Games today. Haven't read the book, so it's an outsider's viewpoint, but it looked like they put "The Matrix", "Alice in Wonderland" and "Running Man" into a blender and had at it. Could have done without the 'whirly-cam'- what is it about this style of filmmaking? Drives me nuts.

Adorable... but I think for $70, I can find something a little more protective.
To be honest, I LOVE the zagg.com Invisible Shield. I have been using them for a long time, every iPhone, two previous iPads, several laptops. Great protection and very lightweight. I don't have to get something bulky to make sure my stuff stays protected.
Going out today to grab another one for the new iPad.

Sunfell, the iMac is beautiful, but those machines aren't the easiest thing to upgrade. Definitely a pretty screen though.

Every few years, I upgrade my main computer. I tend to make them last quite a while, and I tend to get machines that I will grow into. The old ones get recycled- sold or given to someone who needs them. I'm trying to decide if I want to buy a new machine off the shelf, or build one from scratch. ...
I order my computers to spec, but I buy Apple. I only replace the basics: hard drive, RAM, etc. I don't build towers. I haven't had a desktop in 22 years. I always do the laptop, since I need to be portable for work.
That being said, I would suggest look at at MicroCenter.com, which has a great selection and relatively cheap prices. Then you could order parts and assemble. There was a MicroCenter in Philadelphia and I went there all the time. And I have a Fry's here in LA... so that rocks. But I don't tend to do the internal workings as much. I find that the cost of my time in doing that is more than the cost of paying someone else (or getting a warranty on the MacBookPro).
Netbooks are going to disappear. It will be tablets and docks. Most of the world doesn't need anything more powerful than their phone. Sunfell, we are definitely the smaller population. We need power and storage and SPEED!

Sunfell-
IE9 should work, but has hiccups with HTML5. And the video size for Firefox is HUGE... so I recommend Chrome or Safari. Much better experience.
Diana-
I built the website. I didn't make the videos. I just made the system in which you can select which video stream you are watching in the main viewer.

At the end of last season, Peter used the crazy machine and it connected to two universes. When he did, he also erased himself from the timeline. In the new timeline of both universes, Peter died as a child. So our Peter is a stranger and both timelines have progressed without him.
Now, when Peter returned to the timeline, he was a stranger. No one believed that he was Peter, since both Peters had died. But he convinced them. On both sides, he had to retread his relationships.
When he visited the 'other side' he had to create a relationship with his mother from that side again. This season is all about two, connected universes that worked without Peter and then he appears. Some of the baddies he had helped to stop are still alive, still plotting. He knows them and is able to help the team.
They have begun, at this point, to accept him and include him. They are trying to help Peter get back to his timeline.

I have another question for any of you who keep up with Fringe. I am soooooo confused! I recently saw an episode - Peter goes back to see him mother from the other universe - I thought I'd seen this before. But now it seems like they're talking about three universes, not just the two. Or am I tot...

It is Picture Lock. That is when the edit is locked, so we do the sound and music to that picture. And we should be locked in a few days.
Not quite Gold Release, Sunfell. There is still music to be composed, sound effects to be created, color correction, and a few other little technical pieces.
