Oooooh - that fabric was just made for cushions - I love that you've kept the cover really simple to let the pattern shine! The 'accent' cushions on my sofa look a bit worse for wear, so think I'll re-cover them. Should only take a couple of hours - it's just picking the fabric takes soooo much longer (but is secretly my fave bit!). Hugs, Jen xxx
Sometimes all it takes....
Sometimes creating something pretty requires some gorgeous fabric.... and the simplest of designs. A simple envelope back cushion cover made from Amy Butler's Love Paradise Garden in Midnight. And the back with a little binding (Sunspots) which picks up the turquoise dots.... ... in...
Hey there young lady! Glad you're settling into the new house and enjoying Brighton already. And what about that book, eh?! My copy has already found its way to my sewing machine - I was working off printouts before (making the peek-a-boo book bag), so it feels like a luxury to have the bound copy now. It only seems like yesterday we were proofreading, writing the cover copy etc!
Everyone is gonna love it - not long to go now folks, and do swing by to visit Lisa (and maybe even me, you lucky things) at Festival of Quilts!
Take care
Jen x
Where's the flipping kettle?
Woo! Been here in Hove a week and 3 days and living here feels just like I'm constantly on holiday (even when I'm working). Loving it lots! Folks around here are very friendly and the smell of the sea is dreamy. Unpacking is going OK and nothing seems to be broken. Al & I have been working ...
Happy Blogday! I should be giving you a birthday prezzie in return for this post alone - gorgeous sewing, fabric and KITTENS! OMG life doesn't get much better!!! OK pulled self together. Congratulation and we'll be seeing you in another year (or 11 months!). Jen x
Two & 1/12th ...
Sunday the 10th of January was the second anniversary of Don't Look Now! ... yes, yes I know I'm a little late! It now seems hard to believe that there was life before blogging .... I have no idea what I did with my time before Don't Look Now!!! ... other than run around after this lot ...
Oh - lovely 'stuff'! Sometimes feels a bit decandent just wondering round looking at things, but having all of these lovely images in your head after spending a blissful hour or two is just sooooo good for you - thanks for sharing - btw I love those little blue teacups. Jen x
wanderings
Among some of my favorite moments in life are surely those in which a few hours are 'lost' wandering through aisles of 'stuff' with dear friends. Literal and figurative. Treasures and Treasured.
An example of creativity being essential for the soul? Looking around someone's home where they have built a haven or nest is like peeking inside their head - very personal. It's not what you've got, but what it represents for you. I love 'stuff' too - looking at simple bits and pieces I've collected, carefully placed around a room and lived with is very grounding when all else is crazy. The chair sounds amazing, but it'll be so much more than just a chair when you're done with it. Wishing you all the best, Jen x
I keep starting this post and then deleting it,...
I keep starting this post and then deleting it, going back on Twitter for a few minutes, checking Facebook, starting it again, deleting it again, writing an email, starting it again, deleting it..... I want to write about the beautiful new poster that I bought from here and how perfect I thin...
Brilliant images - taking the pins out at the end must be soooo satisfying! Also it appears that you've sparked a new medical condition 'blocking-board-jealousy' - who knew!? Jen x
Blocking Tutorial
Okay, this is so easy it's almost not fair to call it a tutorial. I was up way past my usual bedtime of 8:45 p.m. last night (Portlanders what did you think of the Wilco show last night? [Wilco, why are you so awesome?] I was very happy. First time I've seen them inside. :-) so I am sorry I am l...
Used to love Paperchase because I thought they were so innovative and cool with their graphics. Now I know how they do it, I'm rather less impressed. Thanks to Jaqueline for her insight (above), and to you for speaking out in such intelligent and measured terms. I hope it works out somehow. In the meantime, I'm off to smash my Paperchase owl mug into the bin :o/ Jen x
Cannot chase Paperchase...
o here is the infinite problem: What do you do when a huge corporation like Paperchase sucks the blood of a small independent artist with a super long, thick and huge straw? And talking more specifically, my lovely girl from the artwork most of you know “He says he can hear the Forest whisper”...
There is NOTHING like a deadline to focus the mind - it certainly makes me sit up and take notice! But babies don't really understand deadlines (except their own, where everything is due NOW!!!!), so I guess you have to play it his way - but that's cool - your new line is gonna look brill :o) Jen x
MIA......
Yep, I have been MIA for the past three-ish weeks.....fabric deadline. But it is off in the mail - YEAH! and I am able to breath a bit an move onto the next adventure. I am not sure why I get so self absorbed when I have these deadlines it is not like I don't know they are coming....it just seem...
Why are buttons so irrisistible - I just can't get enough of them, especially in lovely zingy colours like these? They're (almost) as appealing as diamonds (but don't tell Mr Fox I said that!). Jen x
7 days swap
7 days of specialness to cheer up grey February days - Thank you Ali for such a good idea, it has cheered my mornings up no end having a special parcel just for me. My swap partner was Dottycookie so I read through some of her past posts to get an idea of what to send, trying to choose something...
Lush embellishments! At least you know you'll be toting some fab purses when you're out and about on your stroller!!! :o) Jen xxx
When I'm Sixty-Four
Look what Laura made for me. This is such a great idea. She took a silk purse from The Limited -- found on sale at TJMaxx or Marshall's(?) and heatherized it with handmade silk flowers and vintage buttons. I love it! There are two dupioni flowers, plus two little buds from a Kaffe Fasset...
Great dress and fab colour! I love kinda unexpected fabrics and trims for day, like your sheeny silk, or sparkly sequins, flamboyant ruffles etc. It's fun to balance them with jeans, knits, cottons etc for contrast.Looking forward to seeing what you make next for your wardrobe! Jen x
Lime Juice Dress (an Anthrocopy)
The Lime Juice Dress got made. I ended up using the shift pattern in the newest Built By Wendy Book, Dresses, 'cause I had it in my hands (an early review copy) and it was near identical to the pattern I was going to use anyway. It's a great pattern. I added a ruffle collar with a non-function...
Wow - it's like a Red Cross drop for the spirits! Do I spy choccie buttons? If it was me, they would have perished LONG before the fruit+nut bar! BTW found you via your valentine coasters @ sew mama sew. Jen x
Special
I have been rather expertly feeling very sorry for myself recently. A general feeling of gloom mixed with a large dash of lethargy is the best way of summing it up. My default outlook on life was once set at "glass half empty" but with age and experience, it's a trait which I have largely been...
How funny - I was thinking corsage too - was going to add that to reply before but didn't want to ramble on too long. Anyway - spooky!
New Carpet Bag making kit is listed.
I promised folks that I would blog about the arrival of The Cavernous Carpetbag Kit in the shop. Mission accomplished. Just so you know; there were only 25 of these kits available - and they are walking outta here.... Thanks very muchly to all who have picked one up :)
Hi Tracy - I've bought the kit (just arrived!) but might substitute the outer fabric for a softer woven tweedy fabric. I think Lisa's kits are fab value for money even if you do use your own fabric - by the time you've factored in the pattern, frame, hardware, interfacings etc you're still onto a winner. What were you thinking of using - I'd love more ideas! Jen x

I've got mine too - hurrah! Like Caroline I've been keeping an eye out. I so love the idea of that closure - can't wait to try it. Jen xxx

Raspberry Ripple is just pleat-tastic - I love how your bag pattern combine different fabrics so cleverly. Would look great made up in so many different combos of fabric!
Something New
You would almost think I missed blogging on my break - 3 posts in one week, goodness!! It feels really fabulous to be able to do a post showing something new. I know it has only been 3 or 4 months since my last new releases, but for some reason it feels like forever since I have shown you a new...
It is a fab job - unfortunatley I'm not working on your new opus, but I did have a nose through the advance spreads just today - very nice!!! I think you're onto a winner there.
Actually you may not want me near your work - I just noticed a typo in my previous comment - argh - red pen and slapped wrist for me! Take care, Jen :O)
the Quiltmakers..
Today my copy of the Quiltmakers published by David and Charles arrived on my doorstep, I could hardly wait to rip open the package to see the book. Last year or was it the year before?? Ok, a long time ago I was very honoured when Pam Lintott invited me to be a contributor in this book. Reme...
That you speak about the experience with such eloquence, warmth and humour shows that you are re-adjusting beautifully. I think that to successfully combine our different personas (in my case blissfully married Missus combined with obsessed career girl who still eats cereal for dinner like a singleton!), half the battle is knowing that actually you can't always do it all. Do one, do the other, let the edges blur if they need to - if you're genuinly happy and care about those around you, you'll find the right balance.
Life is so very different once you have children....
Life is so very different once you have children. Of course, if you have kids, this is not exactly a bombshell. In fact, it's more of a 'Duh!' moment. It's just that every now and again the incessant speed of life postpartum is a tad overwhelming and makes you (me) stop and wonder where, how ...
Hi there. I'm an editor at the book's publishing house. I didn't work on it (I work on all the other craft books!), but watched from across the room as it all came together. It's an amazing book and as a crafter and patchworker myself, I can say that Lynette's quilt is definity one of my favourites - well done!!! Jen x

Hi - just found your blog via u-handbag. Gave me pause for thought - beautiful words and pictures in this entry - thank you. I hope 2010 is joyful, creative and always full of love for you. Take care, Jenny
remembering
Thank you all so very much for the kind and gentle words about my dear Meme. I was so touched that many of you "knew" of her through what I've written over the years. It is true that her presence reaches every corner of my life. While I miss her so much, there is so much rejoicing to be done ...
I adore your idea for the dress - I'd make it a more versatile fit too! Looking forward to seeing what you might do. BTW found you via u-handbag. Just started blogging myself - don't have any wonderful hand drawings to include though!!!
sketchbook scans
I found this from last year—in an older sketchbook I had stashed away. I finished up the title and lettering today. Originally, there were thoughts of making an actual comic with these elements but the project hasn't made it past this point and the lack of details and actual story makes me hap...
Hi - just found your site via u-handbag. Really love your quilting style, the colour choices for patchwork - so cool! I wouldn't put these near food, personally - far to pretty!!!!!!
* 9 *
I wasn't going to be left out, so I made myself a placemat too. I love working with scraps. I feel much freeier (?) to combine different colours and patterns... there's not pressure about wasting fabric... love it. Quilting so heavily it's time consuming, not to mention the qty of thread ...
