Check it out! Some of the major prototype parts for our housing came in today! We put together a Flickr pool to bring some of the images to you. So, if you're interested, click on through to see our Nikonos Lens Compatible Digital Housing! We still have some fine tuning to do, as well as some beautifying and rounding, but it's coming along. Enjoy, guys! Continue reading

Gawking is awesome. We plan on doing a good amount of that ourselves. Being new to dive equipment manufacturing, we're not yet jaded. I'm sure by the time our fifth DEMA rolls around it will be different story, but we'll enjoy the wide-eyed phase while we can. We'd love to let you get your hands (grubby or not!) on the prototype. I'll drop you an email and we'll pick a time. You guys can always email me directly, too. My email address is my first name, which is Shana, at It's amaazing the lengths we all go to to hide from spam, isn't it?

So, a giant box of housing parts arrived today. We're still missing the biggest two-- the main front and back of the body. They're coming from local vendors here in Massachusetts. One of them should be here Friday. I promise to start taking pictures as soon as we've got them so that you guys can see just how real this is starting to feel. Our team has been immersed in getting this done for months and it will be amazing to see something tangible come together. In the meantime, if you haven't seen the CAD renderings of the housing, they're... Continue reading

So, a huge thank you to everyone who filled out the PiratePro survey. There were about 50 of you. We pulled Chuck Tribolet of the United States' name from a hat as the winner of the $20 gift certificate. Actually, there was no hat. We just closed our eyes, moved our finger around, and pointed at a line on the results spreadsheet, but still. There was some great information in the survey that you might find interesting. Most of you have had your Nikonos lenses for longer than 10 years and can't remember where you got them. You came... Continue reading

Hi guys! First of all, thank you so much for all the responses to the survey! We're going to leave it open until Friday and then pick a winner for the gift card. I'm loving how involved some of you guys are in making sure we make the right choices. We'll try not to let you down. On the housing front, all of our prototype parts are ordered and we're starting to get them in. It's really interesting to see this whole thing start to come together. We should have a fully functional prototype by DEMA. One of the... Continue reading

Hi guys, We've been doing quite a bit of work over the last few months to figure out what's technically possible to do in terms of creating a Nikonos-Capable digital camera housing. We'd like to ask for a bit of feedback from the photographic community at this point. I'd like to ask you to take a quick survey. It's only 20 questions. We'll be giving away a $20 Amazon Gift Card. We're going to select all of the people who took the time to answer the survey and give us some good comments and draw a lucky winner. The survey... Continue reading

One of the first things we looked at when we were considering whether to try to win the Digital Nikonos Industry Challenge was "How available are Nikonos lenses?". It was a pleasant surprise to find out that there are a lot of great resources on the internet for buying gently used Nikonos lenses. Obviously, EBay is a great place to start. We're working today and tomorrow to compile a list of EBay stores that frequently have Nikonos lenses. In the meantime, enjoy the new FAQ . Continue reading

Today's Wall Street Journal had a great article on employed professionals branching out and starting side businesses at night. Apparently, it's a growing trend. Read it if you've got a moment. Starting a New Business While Still Employed The article brings up a few good points, most notably, how do you balance your obligations to your Corporate Employer while still working out what needs to be done for your small business? Some people, I know, don't. They quit their CE jobs and go whole hog into their new venture. I've always assumed they were either ridiculously overconfident or mortgage-free. I... Continue reading

So, one of the first things most Organizational Behavior classes in MBA programs cover is the absolute necessity of a mission statement. For the uninitiated, a mission statement is a succinct and incisive summation of your businesses' raison d'entre. It should communicate your values, vision and business objective, preferably in 1-2 pithy and jargon free sentences. Professors earnestly swear that they're an absolute must - Every organization has to have one, full stop! And, you must communicate them throughout the organization! They usually wrap up the homily with a cute story about a Fortune 500 CEO who carries their mission... Continue reading
