yeah, this doesn't look right.
so my credit card expired and typepad reminded me i was paying them ten dollars a month. i've been paying them ten dollars a month for like - ever? that's really silly. right now i've downgraded, that's why it looks so different here. in case you were wondering. Continue reading

I went to New York.
New York is easily my favorite city in the US. So how lucky am I that my son and his family live there? They recently had a baby, which means I recently became a grandma. It's sweet. It's just as good as all the silly memes say. But that's not what I want to talk about. I want to talk about New York. I'm working on a proper report of it for over on shellycentral, but until then I thought I'd say hi! I did a thing and it was awesome. Here are a couple of my favorite bits. The... Continue reading

the thing is i have way more to say than any of you really want to hear.
i've watched a couple dozen youtubes, read a few articles, and rambled on for quite some time to my best friend who barely has any idea what i'm talking about. i've figures some stuff out. like i'm using the rally template, which is in the brine family. i decided side bars are way too 2005 and i don't need one. i've decided i am going to keep this here and it will function, from my point of view, a lot like my facebook wall did when i first started. and like my live journal was. you should have zero expectations... I lied.
I have nothing figured out. On this super cold and snowy Saturday, I'm playing in my art journal and watching youtubes about squarespace. I realized the problem is I had no idea what I'm trying to do and no idea what SquareSpace can do. Huh. No wonder I'm having a hard time. So today, I'm taking some time to think things through a little bit, and to learn things. Great idea. Continue reading

i think i've figured it out
this place, here on typepad which i certainly have no beef with, to post the random daily tidbits one might usually put on facebook - random thoughts, links to things i think you should see along with other random show and tell, and pictures. Lots of pictures always. And then when I have a longer story to tell - like a trip report or a ted talk - i'll put it on my website. let's try that. i'll be back to work on how it looks later. right now i have to take my mom and her dog to the... St Paul's in London. From the outside.
I have been to London twice, and both times I have stayed here, at St Paul's YHA. I'll always love that area because after spending most of my life dreaming of visiting Great Britain, it was the first place I actually got to explore. And "living" there meant it became the kind of home away from home you make for yourself when you're traveling. The hostel isn't exactly nice, but look at that building. It started life as a place for the kids in the choir (or choir school?) at St Paul's to live. It was gorgeous. Also it was... Continue reading

It Is Margaret You Mourn For
As you may or may not remember, one place I'm visiting on my upcoming adventure is the former home of William Wordsworth. In preparation, I downloaded an audible version of some guy reading his poetry. Brilliant idea. I love it. You may also remember my faovirte poet is Gerard Manley Hopkins. I enjoyed the Wordsworth poetry so much I decided to also download someone reading me Hopkins poetry. Even better idea. Last night I was listening to it while I went to sleep. It's so beautiful. The words he chose to put together sound like... dreamy. I was listening and... Continue reading

I'm not going to Rome.
Unless you watch my Instagram stories, you didn’t know I was even thinking about it, but I was. A couple weeks ago, around the Ides of March, I was thinking a lot about Rome and said to my friend, “I can’t believe I’m not going to to go Rome.” The other day I was looking at old Europe pictures, and there was Rome. All Romey and glorious. I made the mistake of looking up how much it would cost to visit if I flew there from Paris when we were done and then flew back to London. It was not... Continue reading

I bought my plane tickets to London, you guys.

That time Ariel almost talked me into being a mermaid.
It's 29 degrees outside of my Disney hotel room, so I am not going out there until I have to. I only have to because I have a lunch reservation at the Magic Kingdom. Luckily it's at 1pm when it will have warmed up to a toasty 48. (there is no such thing as climate change) I was at the Magic Kingdom last night and it got pretty chilly, especially by Florida standards. It was about 40 as I walked home from my bus stop, and that was a chilly walk even by Kansas standards. Before I came home though,... Continue reading

a really long ramble on the night before a todd rundgren show
You guys I am just so freaking excited about seeing Todd tomorrow I can barely stand it. Do you ever feel that excited? I used to think that feeling was nervous, because it’s so overwhelming and intense and I feel like i’m going to be swallowed by it, but my therapist taught me some brain science. Nervous and excited are right next to each other in your brain, and sometimes when it gets easy to mix up the feelings. Nervous makes no sense. I’m not performing in front of anybody. I’m going to be so thoroughly entertained. Excited makes all... Continue reading

The Adventure Continues in Texas
I'm writing this from my Aunt's couch in Weatherford, Texas. It's only 50 degrees, but it's 37 at my house so I'm not complaining. I did complain yesterday though when it was warmer at home than here. We stayed in all day for that mess. Luckily we are a family of talkers and story tellers so it was still a fun day. On Tuesday we went into Ft Worth to visit my cousin who works at Texas Christian University. We had lunch at a tasty place just off campus and then we visited some iconic TCU spots like these fountains... Continue reading

I'm off on an adventure: Tulsa & Wichita Falls
Last summer, at my family vacation I told my cousin Doug, who lives in Austin, I was going to come see him this fall. And I told my aunt who lives around Ft Worth I would stop to see her on the way. And then I told my best friend who moved to Texas I would stop at her house and of course I told my sister in Tulsa the same thing. I didn't forget about it. When I saw that auntie last month I told her "oh yeah, I'm definitely coming." I just never really picked any dates or... Continue reading

You guys, I have some big news.
Last Tuesday, I was at Hannah’s house meeting her cat. You may have seen a picture I’ve posted. Here’s another one, just in case. We were hanging out, watching the kitten when I got a text from my cousin Pam who lives in London. This is what it said. Yeah you guys. That’s what it said. Did you see it? A long time ago my cousin said they were doing a thing so they’d be in virtual line to get tickets when they went on sale and wondered if I’d be interested in going, so I kind of knew it... 12 Photos of my Art Room Makeover
Chances are you've never been in my art room, but I will tell you it has been a mess. Like a big crazy ugly mess. It never got set up right in the first place. It was a mess, so I added storage drawers and storage things, but it still seemed impossible to organize. I knew there was enough space for everything to have it's own home, but I needed blank space somewhere to put things as they were being sorted. It was like one of those puzzles where there's a square missing and then you have to slide it... Continue reading

To Paint Is To Love Again (Henry Miller) : 12 pictures of working in my art journal
My 50th year was not my favorite, so I've been working on ways to change things and get back to having a life that makes me happy. One essential part of that was to straighten up my art room and make some daily movement in that area every day. Art is good therapy. Art is good for your soul. All of that art stuff, it's true. The first step was to get the art space in some kind of working order. I started getting rid of junk and supplies I don't use, while moving my favorite things into places easy... Continue reading

My Impromptu trip to Orlando, part 2
The rest of my story about my most recent trip to Orlando - We left off Monday morning with a Game of Thrones hangover and nothing on my schedule all day. I spent most of it wasting time in some of my favorite ways - talking about tv on twitter, eating donuts I only eat on vacation, petting the dog and chatting with people via the (type)written word. When Adrianne got home from work we ran to Publix to get stuff for dinner. My brother grilled out in the crazy rain for us and we tried to find a movie... Continue reading

10 things about my life right now
Every now and then I like to make a quick list of some simple things that are going on in my life at the moment. It's a nice thing to be able to look back at years later. I might remember big things that happen in my life, but small things like this get lost amidst the mess. (This was actually written last night, but since who knows when you'll read this, I count it as still valid.) currently: drinking: Diet Dr Pepper from Sonic (thank you Danny) watching: Cosplay Melee. Expedition Unknown is up next. feeling: worried reading: Notes... Continue reading

First half of 2017 in 3 minutes. 1 second every day.
I am still doing 1 second every day! And since June just finished, that means I now have half of 2017 in a 3 minute movie. I tend to think this has been a kinda crap year, but watching this makes me really happy so I guess it hasn't been too bad. I do have a bad habit of not recording anything at all when I'm doing some of the best stuff. Visits with friends and family or doing anything super fun - I forget all about capturing some of it. I want to work on that a little bit.... Continue reading

Just Back: Family Reunion in the Colorado Mountains
Well I say "just back" but honestly we got home on Tuesday. It's just taken me that long to get it together enough to write and share this. I think I'm finally glad to be back. In case you didn't know, I was at a family reunion in the mountains of Colorado. I have learned that 130 people from the same family spending a week together on a regular basis is a little unusual, but this is the family I came from so it really shouldn't surprise anyone. We've been doing this since 1977, although we've had to change locations... Continue reading

It's Road Trip Time!
Every 3 years, my extended family gets together in the mountains of Colorado for a week long family reunion. This is the magic year, and the week starts at the end of this month! That means it’s time to get the planning into high gear and start getting ready. I’ve already started of course. Road trips take a little extra planning, and I’m not very familiar with the place we’re going (we’ve gone there once, at the last reunion 3 years ago). Making any trip longer than it started out is my super power. So with the blessings of Danny... Continue reading
