You are absolutely correct; there is no way that number is accurate. I should have caught it; thanks.
The Collapse of the Institutional Left
The pillars supporting the ideology of the Left have been eroding for years. The failure of Socialism to improve the lives of their subjects everywhere it has been tried, has led to a new Left "Rearguard" (née Vanguard) fighting a holding action in order to maintain their class privileges and s...
A Supervisor of mine many years was discussing the intimate connection between aggression and libido in sex and made the unforgettable comment: If you can't kill, you can never f*ck. It was somewhat hyperbolic but his point was valid. An adult man doesn't deny his aggressive impulses, he learns to control himself and use aggression when it is necessary and appropriate.
In His Own Words
One of the under-reported stories from the 1960's is a fundamental change that took place at that time in the male rite of passage. Ever since the first humans began the arduous trek from primitive tribal societies to civilized society, the male adolescent's progression to adulthood included so...
Its a wonder we have been able to perpetuate the species! With any luck the angry feminists and the angry misogynists will cancel each other out and there will be room for those of us who appreciate that men and women can be delightfully different and spend our time trying to bridge the gap between our alien species.
Sometimes I Feel So Weak I Just Want to Explode
No matter what culture you come from, it is a terrible thing to be a failure. Glenn Reynolds links to a perfect encapsulation of the problem from someone named Chateau: Color me shocked that another mass murdering male shooter has a history of sexual rejection. Obviously, being mentally derange...
The relationship of drug use to major psychiatric disorders is complicated and unresolvable. Do drugs make psychotic episodes more likely? Yes. Do some drugs precipitate psychotic epsiodes, sometimes, in some people? Yes. Can we predict who is vulnerable before hand? Sometimes, yes, often, no.
As well, this person's sexual failures did not cause his decompensation but were secondary to his psychological difficulties. Schizophrenics show signs of mis-attunement to people in social settings well before their illness bursts forth in their first psychotic break. It is often hard for family to notice because there is an often slow slide into disturbance. Schizophrenics become ill slowly at first, and then all of a sudden.

If this young man had indeed made documented death threats he should have been evaluated well before the shootings. If he had then been found to be psychotic, he could have been hospitalized and could have been treated against his will only as long as he was actively dangerous (and he could have gone to court within his first 2 weeks and if not actively homicidal the Judge could have either refused to allow him to be medicated or forced his release from the hospital.) There are no provisions for ongoing, involuntary, long term treatment of someone who is not actively expressing homicidal ideation or has committed a crime and is under the supervision of the courts. Trying to arrange such a structure is complicated and the potential for abuse is very high.
On Madmen and Freedom
In the aftermath of the terrible events of last weekend, many illogical and non-sensical recommendations have been made. A Republican Congressman has suggested that we pass new laws to control the presence of guns near government officials (since everyone knows that murderous madmen will abide ...
I read Jay's post and was very disappointed. I considered responding but did not think it worth while; anyone who is willing to give credence to such nonsense is no longer amenable to debate. It is the equivalent to responding to the question: Do you still beat your wife? There is no possible response; once you offer any answer you have entered their arena, established with their rules.
The Computer Ate My Post
Due to computer problems, there will be no post today. Beyond that, there is little to say except that the behavior of our "responsible and respectable" media in the wake of the terrible events of the weekend are simply beyond the pale; abominable is too tame a word to describe their partisan b...
Judge, if AGW is scientific, then the theory must be falsifiable; to that end, what evidence would you accept that would falsify the theory of global warming? What are the "facts" that you can identify as forming the crucial underpinnings of AGW? If you cannot answer those questions you are not talking about science but about faith.
The Death of AGW
I rarely make predictions, last week's post notwithstanding, because, as the Sage once commented: "The future is hard to predict because it hasn't happened yet." However, several years ago I made the comment that the theory of Anthropogenic Global Warming was effectively over but that many infl...
Excellent; thank you!
Merry Christmas
For all my Christian friends and readers, may this day bring you Peace and Joy.
Untitled Post
I know I said I'd blog again this week, but I'm not really in the mood. I decided I shouldn't blog out of a sense of obligation, but rather, I should do it as a labor of love. There's no love right now, so until I'm feeling up to it... Continue reading

Thank you for the information. I will have to do some more research before I send them any more money.
Veteran's Day 2010
There are no words that can covey the debt we owe to our Veterans. They placed their lives on the line repeatedly to allow us to live the lives we have today. Please consider celebrating Veteran's Day by donating to one of the many organizations devoted to taking care of all of our Veterans an...
Excellent article, well worth your time; I plan on blogging about this later in the week as time permits.
The FDA Will Kill Us All
This is an absolutely perfect example of the FDA using the precautionary principle to cause paralysis. Obesity is one of the greatest public health issues facing the American people. There are almost no good treatment options for most people, short of invasive, potentially life threatening and...

New Monkey, Naked Charlie Sheen, and Turning the Tables on Galifianakis
I took nyquil last night and slept like 12 hours. Also, I need to go into work early today so this is going to be a rushed post but here goes. New kind of Monkey discovered in Burma (I refuse to call it Myanmar, I don't give in to the... Continue reading

South Park Pulled a Dane Cook
I thought last week's episode of South Park, which spoofed Inception, was pretty funny, but not on the same level as the Jersey Shore or NASCAR episodes. Turns out they lifted some material from an online spoof of Inception from collegehumor.com. My beloved South Park pulled a Dane Cook (stealing... Continue reading

Three Great Posts
Glenn Reynolds of Instapundit had three great posts that I'd like to share on my blog. I'll post my favorite bits and perhaps add something of my own. 1. Guilty Southern White Boys The notion (originally suggested by one of Andrew Sullivan’s readers) is that southerners — always the target... Continue reading

I Didn't Catch Her Historical Reference, She Must Be Retarded
Ok, so I know I said I had no time for posting today but I can't leave this one be without mention. Let's play a game called, "I didn't catch her historical reference, so she must be retarded." Sarah Palin said at a TEA PARTY rally, "Don't party like it's... Continue reading

Who Loves the Sun
I've started a busier work schedule with fluctuating hours. I've also got a visitor in town from the mainland this week, so blogging may be lighter than normal. There's lots of good stuff out there today, but I guess I'll just have to keep it in the vault until I... Continue reading

Pessimistic Blogger Can't Wait to Move to Outer Space
Is anybody serious about entitlement reform? Chris Christie and Paul Ryan, perhaps. Will they be able to do anything about it? Probably not, there's a lot of entrenched interests... I'll just hedge my bets and fly off to space as soon as I get a chance (well, as soon as... Continue reading

Due to Unforeseen Circumstances...

Ground Control Didn't Kill Major Tom, Communism Did.
Strapped for time again, I'll try to get a longer post in later today. Guiseppe Fratelli, you can inform your mother that microwaves and cell-phones really don't cause cancer. I think we've been telling her for years, but here's another reminder. The Wall Street Journal says Capitalism Saved the Miners.... Continue reading
