Fox has taken the unusual step of posting the entire AVATAR script online (PDF), allowing fans to see what was cut (the already-notorious Jake-Neytiri sex scene) as well as some boozy male bonding and stereotypes of NRA members that have drawn right-wingers' attention. At one point Tsu'tey has his ponytail—and thus his connection with Pandora—cut off by an RDA soldier, and asks Jake to kill him. via avatarblog.typepad.com Continue reading

AVATAR grabbed nine Oscar nominations, including best picture (even odds on that one), best art direction, best sound editing, best sound mixing and, of course, best visual effects. James Cameron's up for best director (a 3-to-1 shot?) while James Horner got a nod for best original score and Mauro Fiore's up for a best-cinematography award (no surprise: his colleagues dig him too). James Cameron may also share best-film-editing honors with Stephen Rivkin and John Refoua. via avatarblog.typepad.com Continue reading

AVATAR is still number four in box-office sales, but James Cameron tells MTV that there'll be three AVATAR DVDs: a 2-D version slated for a June 30 release, then a special edition and a 3-D Blu-ray DVD. (He also told the Wall Street Journal the release would happen on Earth Day—April 22; stay tuned for definitive release dates.) Luckily, Samsung, Sony and others will start selling 3-D TVs ahead of any AVATAR 3-D edition. So will viewers shell out for the bare-bones 2-D version when a special edition and a 3-D release are coming soon? And which edition will have... Continue reading

Why are the Na'vi blue? James Cameron answered the question in a recent interview saying he wanted there be an "otherness" to the love story between Sully's avatar and the native alien, Neytiri. Since skin color is "such a big issue on our planet," Cameron decided to use that issue as a thematic driving point. Other skin tones were already taken by humans, while green was already a cliché in other alien movies. "We had big blue women, not little green men," Cameron said. No word on why the Na'vi's skin sparkles, but you have to admit it is a... Continue reading

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the 15 films vying for best visual effects at the Oscars and AVATAR, 2012, and Transformers will compete with smaller budget films like Where the Wild Things Are, District 9 and Coraline. The Academy will narrow the list to seven film in January and will eventually pick three films for Oscar nomination. At least a few reviewers are certain AVATAR can beat the Oscar curse of fantasy films and even win best picture. via avatarblog.typepad.com Continue reading

Matt from YourGeekNews.com here with some advance clips and interviews from AVATAR! It’s taken a decade and a half for James Cameron to bring Avatar to the silver screen (in 3-D IMAX no less), but now that technology has caught up with his imagination, he’s leading an all-star action-packed cast into the jungles of a world called Pandora to meet his photo-realistic blue-skinned aliens. Using custom-made performance capture rigs on a scale never before attempted, Avatar LOOKS stunning so far and there’s a lot of talk about the technology and the visuals, but as is the case in any movie,... James Cameron just released a movie about using technology to become immersed in another world, and it seems the 3-D and motion capture are all they're cracked up to be, and the 2-D and 3-D versions are practically different movies, blogs this Singaporean fan. via avatarblog.typepad.com Continue reading
