How fast a year goes
A year ago today, my father passed away. It's hard to imagine it has been that long since I last spoke with him or heard him tell some wildly off-color joke. Rather than focus on sadness this past week, I've been revisiting my memories of the really great trip he and I took together in the summ...

Linen Stitch Scarf
After being in the knitting doldrums for quite a while, I finally got inspired by my friend Scott's great Malabrigo Linen Stitch Scarf pattern. The kit comes with 14 pre-measured balls of yarn, and the pattern, while simple, knits up into really interesting cloth with great color transitions. Th...
Thanks, Steven!
Annual review
Hard though it is for me to believe, we're fast approaching the one year mark since Darren left me. I've made a conscious effort NOT to keep the exact date in my head, but when it arrives I'm sure I'll be aware. Those who know me well will understand what effort it takes to be uncertain of the e...
Thanks, Nigel. I'm thinking I'll be blogging more soon. Need to get through a few things first, though.

An update from the broken hearts ward
Hi there. I wanted to just let you know that I'm still here, and I'm and doing much better than three weeks ago when Darren first left me. (I've turned out to be less of a wimp than I thought I was. LOL) Many thanks to those of you who have reached out to me and offered words of love and support...
Thanks so much!
"Could you please pause the TV for a minute?"
Those seemingly mundane words were the last that Darren ever spoke to me as my partner. The next words out of his mouth were, "I have to tell you that I don't love you anymore, and I'm ending our relationship." And just like that, 14 years with the man I loved more than life itself came to an ab...
This was a case of liking the colors online, less so when the yarn was delivered...
Thanks for complimenting my stitches. I'm a pretty tidy knitter...
Am I butch enough to make this work?
I'm really not, am I? When I ordered this Knitpicks Chroma yarn online, the colors didn't seem quite so, um feminine. I'll finish the scarf anyway, but maybe it won't be for me after all. Oh well, worst case scenario, I buy more yarn.
Yeah, this will definitely be a gift. Sigh.

Four Years of WoolGatherer
Four years ago today I launched this blog with a pretty typical newbie blog post. (Though I still like the Annie Lennox quote...) In some ways, the WoolGatherer of 2010 is a mere shadow of what it was a few years back, but I'm still proud of the writing I've done here and the mighty fine collec...
I think the screws a permanent. That's fine with me if they keep holding it all together.
Well and truly screwed.
An update from the orthopedics ward.. The surgery Friday morning came off without a hitch. I checked into the outpatient surgery center around 6:45, and by 2:30pm I was home sleeping in my comfy recliner. The dreaded nerve block went really smoothly, and I barely felt a thing. My leg was totally...
Oops--yeah, the surgeon nipped off a bit of my right illiac crest.
Well and truly screwed.

I much preferred Aladdin's old Arabian Nights sort of theme, even though that was a but cheesy.
Forgive me, for I have sinned.
Yes, it has been ages since my last post. That's my first sin. My next sin is travel-based. Darren and I recently returned from a relaxing four-day trip to Las Vegas with my sweet boy. This was our belated make-up trip after we had to cancel our week on the Mexican Riviera due to my broken leg. ...

Yes, that's very true.
43
Today's my 43rd birthday. This picture was taken 37 years ago today. I haven't changed a bit. I'm spending the day quite lazily, watching movies and hanging out with Hudson. Darren is out of town until this evening, but then we're meeting a group of friends for a birthday dinner. I'm really lo...

Ugh--I have a blog post coming. The trip is cancelled. I fell on icy sidewalk last Saturday and broke my leg. So bummed!

Just beachy
Darren and I are going here for a week, a resort on the Riviera Maya. I'm beyond excited to escape the land of ice and snow! This will be our first-ever tropical vacation. Floating, eating, chilling--these are my "goals" if you will. I'm vowing to: Be seen with my shirt off, no matter how...
If I can just get past the taking-off-my-shirt part, I should be fine.

I'm just using a pattern from the LYS where I took my toe-up class.
Love 'em!
Emerald beauties
Last night I finished my second pair of toe-up socks. I must say, I'm rather smitten with them. This pair has pretty much sold me on toe-up construction. That being said, I'm not working to finish up a pair of cuff-down socks that I started for Darren back in October. He's been ever so patie...
Thanks, Stephen!
Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas, and all the best in the new year, from Sean, Darren & Hudson!
That's the plan for this second attempt.

Disaster, recovery
For some idiot reason, I thought I could get away with just binding off my toe up sock in pattern instead of using some looser bind-off. Horror. I couldn't even get the finished sock halfway down my foot. Great, because that's how I like three weeks' work to end up I actually resorted to CUTTING...
I refuse to believe it's totally passé, or would so many stores still carry it?

Going toes-up
For the past few weeks I've been taking a toe-up sock class with my pal Jay. I'm working on two socks at once to avoid the dreaded Second Sock Syndrome. Both socks are knit as far as the heels, which are half finished. (No, I'm no the kind of knitter who makes sure he starts his socks at...
Thank you!! I'm like WTF??

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm eager for the pattern to arrive!
Contemplating the sweater
I recently ordered this sweater pattern. My intention, you see, is to knit a sweater much like that shown in the photo. It remains to be seen if I will do anything of the sort. First, after waiting over a week, I checked my order's status and found that the pattern is back ordered. Fudge. No...
