That's a pretty good list; I would maybe throw in something by one of the later, dancier Dischord bands (Q and Not U's "No Kill No Beep Beep", probably) and, for reasons of personal early fandom, something by Circus Lupus/the Monorchid Set. The Slant 6 is a good pull. I still listen to that Jawbox album like crazy.

"And in this instance, you who are the father of letters, from a paternal love of your own children have been led to attribute to them a quality which they cannot have; for this discovery of yours will create forgetfulness in the learners' souls, because they will not use their memories; they will trust to the external written characters and not remember of themselves. The specific which you have discovered is an aid not to memory, but to reminiscence, and you give your disciples not truth, but only the semblance of truth; they will be hearers of many things and will have learned nothing; they will appear to be omniscient and will generally know nothing; they will be tiresome company, having the show of wisdom without the reality." Which, of course, I could look up, because it's on the Internet.

Dogear pages and underline important phrases. Or maybe even random ones. "Esquimo."

I am reminded of a particularly loathsome trick in Penn and Teller's "How to Play with Your Food", involving a cake that vomited gloppy red goo when sliced. But she is not that sort of cake! She is curranty.

What on earth is going on with Carnegie Mellon? Is that... supposed to be tartan? It looks like the regalia from Phish University.

There's a new Bonnie Prince Billy album out (there's always a new Bonnie Prince Billy album out), which I haven't heard, but I assume it does what it says on the bottle. The new Liars is good if you like the Liars. Quasi's "American Gong".

Ben, our copy of The Complete Saki has a misprint and is missing an entire signature from When William Came. This is a great tragedy, and I will never learn how those plucky Boy Scouts got to it. Also, you should read Connie Willis' Jerome K. Jerome homage/time-travel farce, To Say Nothing of the Dog.

It's not the Residents, Ray. It's the Mexican Residents. That's like the Charlatans UK, or maybe Indian Spiderman.
