It’s kind of ironic to note that Dennis Rodman was a second-round pick of the 1986 NBA Draft. The fascinating part about this that in the most doomed draft in history, some unknown dude from some college called Southeastern Oklahoma State University would go on to have the best NBA career. To look at the 1986 NBA Draft in the moment was to see the deepest and most talented collection of players assembled at one specific time and place. And yet between the death, personal destruction, addiction and the misplaced expectation, the entire group seems linked as if some sort... Continue »

Judd Legum: >FACT CHECK: Ron Paul Personally Defended Racist Newsletters: Here’s what Paul told CNN on December 21: >>PAUL: I never read that stuff. I never — I would never — I came — I was probably aware of it 10 years after it was written… Well, you know, we talked about [the newsletters] twice yesterday at CNN. Why don’t you go back and look at what I said yesterday on CNN, and what I’ve said for 20-some years. It was 22 years ago. I didn’t write them. I disavow them and that’s it… >When the newsletters first arose as an issue in 1996, Paul didn’t deny authorship. Instead, Paul personally repeated and defended some of the most incendiary racial claims in the newsletters. In May 1996, Paul was confronted in an interview by the Dallas Morning News about a line that appeared in a 1992 newsletter, under the headline “Terrorist Update”: “If you have ever been robbed by a black teenaged male, you know how unbelievably fleet of foot they can be.” His response: >>Dr. Paul denied suggestions that he was a racist and said he was not evoking stereotypes when he wrote the columns. He said they should... Continue »

Instead of wallowing in the Sox late-season collapse I choose to celebrate the one and only Matt Stairs. Stairs's career numbers are essentially the same as Reggie Jackson's (.262, .356, .490). All of his numbers trump those of Roger Maris.... Continue »

Is Disney unloading the Touchstone Pictures film studios later this year? I think the Mouse House is getting out of the filmed-entertainment-for-grown-ups-only business and cut Touchstone loose after nearly 30 years since War Horse opened in theaters last month. Although Touchstone has produced and/or released several memorable films - think... Continue »

As you can see, this site looks different again. Chances are, the content on these pages is going to be a little different, too. Since there is ample space for the baseball and other sports writing on the CSNPhilly site, there is no real need to use this space for the overflow or the ol’ shaking out the notebook jawn. Instead, this will be a more traditional, “blog.” Call it a catch all for whatever comes down the pike. You know, for fun… you’ll see. Continue »
