Food Coma
May your holidays be equally satisfying. with love from the Harrison-Goldins
That is just lovely. I hope they'll always have such a magical relationship x
He and She
He wakes up in the morning and she is the first thing he asks for. She saves her biggest smiles for him. He gives her his half-eaten food in case she's still hungry. She can't keep her eyes off of him and insists on his attention through squeals. She has learned that shreiking in his face is ...
Well done! It really is a great photo, by the way! x
External Validation
Last night, I walked home from the train station with an enormous skip in my step and small tears in my eyes. Silly probably. The magic that is a smart phone meant that as I was wrangling the two kiddos off the train, an email popped into my phone informing me the above photo is going to be ...
Congratulations! What's meant to be, is meant to be! Soon you won't be able to imagine life without baby no.3. Good luck! x
I Think You Should Probably Sit Down...
Eight weeks ago, Kevin and I were walking with the kids through the park. As we walked under the big tree at the far end, our conversation turned to what we would do next with our lives. "I can feel that there is a big change coming, something huge" I replied. That night, I stepped out of bed a...
Yep, totally agree. It's ludicrous, and yes, the only thing to do is to take them out of the packaging before you wrap them for Christmas etc.
My absolute pet hate is when you find you actually need a screwdriver to release toys from their packaging!!! Peppa Pig toys are bad for this, and also a cash register we bought from Asda recently. I mean, WTF?!?! Do they expect these toys are going to come to life and try to escape? Watched too much Toy Story maybe...
Rant Rant Rant
I was planning on having a rant today. Then I was tagged by Still Mum of 5 to list things that bother and annoy me. Perfect timing. Yesterday the hubby went to ToysRus. Now, in fairness, the hubby is struggling with feeling a bit low at the moment and we all now you should NEVER go shopping wh...
Oh, I hope that's a good sign! We're having similar problems with Lilly at the moment - last night was particularly awful with about six different episodes of crying and running out of her bedroom. I threatened her with no swimming trip today - she still cried and got up so the swimming is indeed cancelled. In the end, DH ended up sleeping in with her as I am on baby feeding duty in the night. Nightmare. Wish i knew what causes it, and wish I knew how to solve it!
Night 3
I thought we'd got away with it. I went to bed by 11. I know, I know, I should've gone earlier but I just can't make myself. Besides, I would rather be woken from a light sleep than a deep one! As I went to bed there were little cries coming from her room. My heart sank. Another night, I thoug...
Wow. What a story. So glad your husband was ok in the end, but sounds like you were treated awfully by the NHS with an absolute catalogue of errors and delays. You should not have had to pay privately but I bet you were glad you did to make him better again. Probably the best money you could ever spend. I wish you both many, many happy and healthy years together with your family. xx
The Heart Bypass Operation
In March this year it was 3 years since my hubby had a heart bypass operation and he is fit as a fiddle now from a heart perspective. But it made me think about the horrendous catalogue of events that led us here and how I was convinced I was going to lose my man. Maybe this post will help oth...
That's so lovely! x
Writing Workshop - first kiss
When I went to University, I was put in a tutor group with mature students. "Just my luck" I thought "I get all the old gits while everyone else gets to hang out with the younger, fun crowd". I couldn't have been more wrong. You see, the advantage of mature students is that they have learnt the...
We don't live far from Manchester but we've not yet been to the Manchester Museum - but we definitely will after reading this. Sounds like the sort of thing my little girl would love too!
Glad you all had a great time in the city. x
Dinosaur hunting in Manchester and other adventures
Our recent trip to Manchester proved a great success. We visited the city courtesy of Creative Tourist -- the Arts magazine which celebrates culture in and around Manchester and beyond -- to take in the sites, visit the Family Friendly Film Festival and see what Manchester has to offer for famil...
Oh god, there must be so many things which, as a parent or parent-to-be, you swear you or your child is not going to do... sometimes life's not that simple! We were lucky with Lilly as she decided at 3 months old she didn't like her dummy and prefered to suck her thumb - which she still does now at bedtime, aged 2 and a half. I'm so glad we never had to try and wean her off the dummy, I can only imagine how hard that must be! Isla is only 7 weeks but already I'm worrying that I'm making her too dependent on a dummy to sleep - but what the hell, it works!
A person of principles
I am a person of very high principles. Some may call it stubbornness or awkwardness but I call it principles. Ever since she was born, I didn't want the little one to have a dummy. There were a couple of reasons for this. Firstly I was breastfeeding her and didn't want anything to spoil that bu...
Oh yes, I'm guilty of this. Saying it straight is definitely the way to go... let's all try to be more direct in future!
Say what you mean
I was thinking the other day about my communication with my hubby. I think I need to revise it. ===== I say: I can't believe how quickly the dirty dishes build up. I swear I've only just filled the dishwasher I mean: Could you please do the dishes sometimes ===== I say: I've no idea what to do...
Here here! All very true x
Things I Know
- Strawberries will not jam if they are too wet. Even washing them can upset the delicate balance of water to pectin (lets not get into weeks of rain). Leaving them to dry for a few hours after washing is often necessary. Particularly sodden berries often require the addition of rhubarb, rasp...
What a lovely post! Brings back a lot of memories of the last few years with our little girl too. You're doing a fab job and I'm sure one day your little one will love to read this lovely post all about these precious early years x
Now we talk in years...
When I was pregnant we talked in weeks... We worried about the pregnancy all through because of what happened with Adam. I bought a Blood pressure monitor and watched it closely When I had kidney stones at 14 weeks pregnant I wouldn't take the painkilling drugs because I didn't want to risk...
Oh dear! I too try not to shout at Lilly, but just be firm and explain what is wrong with her behaviour when she does something naughty. But when she does something that does make me raise my voice, she'll sob her heart out... makes me feel soooo guilty...
Parenting's not easy, is it!
Another parenting strategy goes awry...
Back in the foggy mists of time, I have a memory of telling Flea that tantrums, shouting, hitting or whinging were not acceptable in our household. If Little Flea looked like she might melt down, I would ask her to go somewhere else until she felt calmer and then she could come and talk to me...
Oh gosh, already? I'll never say a bad word against that pig again... !!
The future is ... Justin Bieber, apparently
This evening a child I barely recognised wandered into the kitchen and asked if I had any black nail vanish. She wanted to paint her toe-nails. I lied, after choking on my coffee, and said I didn't. The nail varnish was to go with the new Gothic look that IJ is now sporting, after a friend gave ...
Yum yum. Peas straight from the pods - the only way to eat them, if you ask me!
Not Enough
There weren't enough for dinner, so we did what any normal people would do, ate them straight from the pod. She just watched.
The pictures are just fabulous, well done you! Nice to think as well that your work will be looked at so many times over the coming years by the happy couple to remember their special day - you should be very proud!
Jen & Col's Wedding
Well, the bride and groom have now seen the photos and have given me permission to share my favourites. It was such a lovely day and I get to remember it every time I look at the photos. The rest of the set is available here. From a photographic ...
Mmm, sounds interesting, I look forward to hearing the results...
Well this should be fun
Remember when I said I should have been a food blogger? And remember my ongoing quest to find meals the whole family will enjoy? Well, get this, Annabel Karmel has just challenged me to try some of her recipes each week ... Julie and Julia style. They are from her upcoming "Top 100 Pasta Dishe...
Aw, what a really lovely post - you sound like a really lovely and happy little family!
What Love Is
Nine years ago yesterday, I landed in Gatwick airport to spend two weeks with a young man I hadn't seen in over 2 years. It was a sort of test to see if whatever kept us coming back to each other was real or just some idealised idea of a relationship. At the end of the two weeks, running thro...
The waiting is awful, even if you've had a 'good' pregnancy, so I can only imagine how you must feel with all the complications and illnesses you've had have. Hope you haven't got long to wait now! And I'm sure your son will only beenfit from having a sibling, even if he takes a while to get used to the idea at first!
Realities and Blessings
image via ibreakplates.com Reality: I am finding it very hard going at the moment. If I am honest, I feel like I have lost the best part of a year of my life to this pregnancy. Most mornings I wake up and cry at the reality of being miserably pregnant and in anticipation of what ne...
Oh yes, the joys of the last few weeks... I went 10 days overdue, and yes, I was getting the "still here?" comments even before my due date! I know people mean well but it can all get a bit Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!
Sounds like you're making the most of your time though with some nice creative projects. Try not to listen to the comments and just make the most of the time you have with Ellis and any time you get to yourself!
The Danger of Predictability
I didn't blog Friday or yesterday. Normally, this occurrence is met with a harassing text from a certain friend (you know who you are, woman!). Yesterday, my lack of blogging was met with no less than 3 emails, 4 texts to my phone, a blog comment, and various phone calls and texts to Kevin. ...
