i like your illustrations. especially the facial expressions. i'm not kidding.
what it is like to (not) sleep at night - illustrated with crappy pictures™
INTRO: Here is installment #2 in my "real life parenting" series. (This series will be continued over on Crappy Pictures so head over there for more!) I draw crappy pictures because I don't have actual photos of these experiences. Here goes... -------------------------------------------------...
my 5yr old son is doing the EXACT. SAME. THING!! he goes around taking pictures and videos. sometimes i see what he's taking pictures of, but a lot of times i don't. he too is using a real camera...not made for kids. it's hilarious to see what they choose to take pictures of. the bending over butt photos and the mundane objects are both funny in their own right.
the videos of him just walking shot downward are priceless.
it's a recent thing he just picked up. and he's learning all the same things, some on his own, some by trial and error. holding camera steady, when to use flash, deleting, etc.
we just came back from a trip and he took 1000 images. oy. now he's learning about editing.
as for preserving/storing...
i'm keeping his images in a separate folder on the computer, as well as a backup on the hard-drive. he wanted to make a book with his pictures...hence the serious editing we are doing.
tip:make sure you clear memory card and save images and/or know what pictures/videos are on his camera if he's going to be around his friends. little people like to share ;)
first mate gets a grown up camera
First Mate got a new camera as a gift from his aunt two weeks ago and he is in love. A real camera. One that isn't made for kids, but for adults. He takes good care of it, uses the wrist strap and even puts it away, out of Second Mate's reach. He also insisted upon sleeping with it next to h...
It's been great fun. Though as you know traveling with a small sidekick can slow you down..but sometimes it's just the thing you need, right?

hello Berlin! Just arrived at the flat we are renting for the week. It was great having coffee and breakfast ready for us each morning last week, but it's also a welcome change to stay in a place where we can spread out a little more, plus one that has a kitchen.

i am thankful for my health, the health of my family, and the ability to realize a passion in life. i am truly grateful for these things.
I am thankful for you ~ a holiday giveaway
Somewhere between the pecan pie baking and, a nice day off yesterday, I realized I completely missed an official post wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving! But it's never too late to talk about being thankful. Today it also occurred to me that I tend to yammer on often about how thankful I am to ...

ashley,
your illustrations always make me smile! such a distinctive style, and the character and life that comes out of the people that you draw...truly a gift.
Hello!
I know I always apologize, but I am sorry. It has been far too long. It's funny, lots of things have been going on but I have been "living" them a bit more than chronicling them. In non-work-related stuff Drew and I decided to try a new breakfast place once a week and so far it's been great! We ...
this...is the most adorable post!
the blue hat cracks me up for some reason...and along with everyone i'm sure...amazed at the baseball field.
boys will be boys.
soule boys sew
I'm not the only one stitching around here these days. These two boys of mine have been stitching up a storm this winter. They've both done quite a bit of sewing before, both at my side and on their own (I wrote about Calvin's first foray here). But the issue of the machine has always been a...

"it is what it is."
just a general term that is used around our household a lot.
my new book, a surprise, & a giveaway!!
I am pretty much ecstatic to announce that my new book, Bend the Rules with Fabric: Fun Sewing Projects with Stencils, Stamps, Dye, Photo Transfers, Silk Screening, and More is now available. I haven't been out to see if it's in the shops yet, but I know the ship date is today, so if you pre...
okay, i'll say it. i'm not crazy about socks with the clogs...or sandals. but what i do love are people who are willing to experiment with fashion and don't take things too seriously.
striped dress and socks with clogs
I sewed this dress with Vogue #7871. I have had this pattern for years. I never regret buying patterns, even when I feel I have too many, because they go out of print. This one has. This is the fourth dress I have made from this pattern. I actually had forgotten about the pattern until I saw t...
you are so right. i always remember what my sister (who has two) felt whenever there were feelings of the little one getting the short end of the stick in regards to "all" the things the first child received. she simply stated that the little one gets a sister to play with.
thank you for sharing your heartfelt stories and pictures of you and your family... so much love.
two whole months
Harper is two months old today! Despite all the energy we've put into slowing things down around here and enjoying the moments, the time is still going far too fast for my liking. Slow Down I demand of Time more times than I can count in a day. But Time doesn't listen. Harper keeps growing...
