Beautiful Easter pics and great recipes. I think I'll try them all starting with tsourekia this afternoon. Thanks for sharing.
Greek Easter Cooking
For the Greeks, Easter is regarded as the greatest celebration of the year. The festive pascal menu includes a wide variety of traditional foods such as magiritsa ( Easter Midnight Soup), ovelias (seasoned lamb or goat on the skew), kokoretsi (seasoned lamb offal wrapped in chopped indestines), ...
Let's hope that 2015 will be a happier year for the whole world.
2015 - Hopes and Aspirations
Yet another year starts bringing with it hopes, dreams, expectations, aspirations, wishes for happiness, goodness, prosperity and, surely, an anticipation of a better future. Not only does this entail hope but also a reason to keep smiling, even in hard times, in addition to thinking positive an...
Oh my! That was a hard one but I think I got most answers to the questions right. I'll be looking forward to the answer key. Anyway I really enjoyed reading the story.
Reading Comprehension and Language Practice
Carefully read this passage which has been divided into three sections, and answer the questions that follow each section. James Thurber SECTION 1 I had spent the week-end with some friends – they live on East Tenth Street near Fifth Avenue – such a week-end that left me reluctant to rise ...

When I was a child, on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, I would go from door to door with the other children of my neighbourhood and sing the "kalanda". Then we'd share the money we collected and buy sweets. Beautiful Christmas memories.
Christmas in Cyprus
Ah, it is "kourabiedes" time, and the sweet aroma of "melomakarona" cookies will soon be filling Greek kitchens worldwide. Turkeys have invaded Greek Cypriot Christmas customs. For many Cypriots the holiday is preceded by a time of fasting. For Cyprus, the season is in full swing by December...
What a festive and delicious Christmas lunch! Thanks for sharing your photos of Christmas past - they're all so beautiful. As you know, I didn't use to like Christmas. It was thanks to you that I discovered the magic of the season and the true spirit of Christmas beyond the decorations and food. And I'll always thank you for that, Anastasia.
Christmas Past
Christmas has always been my favourite time of year after the summer. As a little girl, I would help mum decorate the Christmas tree and make the traditional Christmas sweets. On Christmas day all the family would gather together at mum's whose cooking can still equal that of a great chef. I ca...
I have worked a lot on positive thinking in my effort to get rid of insecurities and negative feelings. I am now more confident in finding solutions to problems and overcoming difficulties. You look really great in the photos, by the way.
Counting my Blessings
I had a wonderfully carefree childhood and a relatively easy adolescence despite the fact that I experienced war at the age of sixteen. Thinking positive has helped me to mature a lot and realise that what matters most in life is counting your blessings. However, in my mid thirties, I lost...
Although I love fish very much, I can hardly resist to souvlaki. And I think number 1 is my favourite at this time of year. Hiking and feeling the crisp mountain air can be so relaxing!
Time Out in Cyprus
Time Out Cyprus By Time Out editors 1. Head for the hills Platres Agritourism is a growing trend on the island, but it hasn’t yet caught up to the high visitor numbers the coastal resorts attract. Consequently, a holiday in the Troodos Mountains is recommended for anyone in search of ...
This recipe sounds very easy and I'll certainly try it!
Halloumopita - A Traditional Cheese Pie from Cyprus
Halloumi is a Cypriot, firm, brined, white cheese traditionally made from a mixture of goat and sheep milk, but cow milk is also used these days. Its texture is similar to that of mozzarella except that it has a strong, salty flavour imbibed from the brine preserve. Cooking halloumi practically ...
Great idea! I'd really love to spend some time with you and show you how to bake my cinnamon cookies.
Hello Autumn
The sun looked as if it were pinned to a bissfully spotless blue background as I was driving to work yesterday morning, enjoying the fresh, peaceful air and the way it seemed to stretch into eternity. I was in high spirits feeling ebulient and happy. It was going to be yet another "summer" day ...
Autumn is my favourite season. I love listening to the rain while enjoying a cup of hot chocolate and I really don't mind windy days. It's also the time of year when my chrysanthemums are in full bloom and my kitchen is filled with the smell of freshly baked cinnamon cookies. I really feel happy and calm in autumn.

I am usually the one to shop for groceries for the whole family and it is, indeed, a very boring chore - especially because I prefer to go on Saturdays, when I don't work, and the supermarkets are always packed!!! That's what I hate most!
At the Supermarket
One of my least favourite occupations is shopping at the supermarket. However much I enjoy shopping for books, clothes, cosmetics and accessories, going to the supermarket is a chore I share with Alkis. Alkis usually does the shopping when I work since most supermarkets here are open till 8:00 p...
Certainly honesty is a great quality but unfortunately there are so many hypocrits around us. Many people who go to church every Sunday spend the rest of the week committing crimes or leading a sinful life. This is something that really makes me mad!
10 Honest Things About Me
1. I always speak my mind - online or offline - whether you like it or not! 2. I almost invariably tell the truth. I may occasionally tell a white lie in order not to hurt or offend a person. 3. I always pay a comment back. 4. I have the fear of flying - yet I love travelling but....in Europe o...
Your Rolex is gorgeous! I wouldn't change it for anything if I had one like yours! I also prefer analog watches, they are so much more elegant than digital ones.
Rolex vs Apple iwatch
I hear smartwatches like the Apple iwatch are going to be big over the coming years just like digital technology was big in the early '80s. If you ask me, I'm sick and tired of technology and all these so-called new "smart" advances occurriing every so often which only aim at persuading people...

My Love Affair with Protaras

I have never heard of this pie before. Looks great in your photos. I have all the ingredients at home so I am going to bake it this afternoon.
Monday's Greek Recipe - Pepeki
This is a traditional Greek pie from the region of Epirus in nortthwestern Greece. It's really easy to make using everyday ingredients that , more or less, we all have at home. I have slightly adapted Argyro's original recipe and used whole grain flour and light Epirus feta cheese (12% fat). It'...
Thanks for sharing the recipe. I'm certainly going to try it. I'm sure my boys will be thrilled! They all love chocolate.
A Piece of Cake!
My recipe for plain chocolate cake is adapted from my mother's recipe for the basic fruit cake. I have simply replaced the dried fruit with some drinking chocolate. Ingredients 1 cup butter 1 cup sugar 3 1/2 cups plain flour 5 eggs 3/4 cups milk 4 tbsp brandy (preferably French cognac)...
Although I think each season has its unique pleasures, I'm not a summer lover! I hate it when it gets too hot and humid. However, I love autumn and spring. Thank you for sharing your beautiful photos from the Greek islands.
S as in Summer
Almost invariably, at this time of year and just as the school year is about to end, I begin to dream of sandy beaches, crystal clear blue waters and candlelit dinners under the stars. I also can't wait to get rid of coats, jumpers, boots and leather jackets and put on shorts and T-shirts, strap...

Monday's Greek Recipes - Keftedakia me Ouzo - Meat Balls with Ouzo
Meat balls with ouzo is an appetizer or meze. In Greece and Cyprus, it is served with a glass of ouzo just to whet the appetite as you will certainly help yourselves to more than one and this will prepare the palate for the Greek main course - let's say souvlaki or pastitsio. You can also serve...
I've been a few times to Tochni and love it so much. Whenever I want to get away from daily routine, I drive there and relax for a couple of hours. I so love the beautiful scenery and enjoy taking a walk along the narrow alleys. The people are also very friendly and hospitable.
A Visit to the Village of Tochni - Larnaca, Cyprus
The village of Tochni is a small, traditional village of about 300 inhabitants which lies along the south-western part of rural Larnaca, at about 20 km from Larnaca town. The village is made up of stone-built houses on the slopes of two hills with a small river cutting across them. The name of ...

Easter 2014 - Rethymnon, Crete - Part 1
Alkis and I had never bought a package tour before, and, I must admit, we were a bit sceptical about booking one for our Easter holiday. We usually travel on our own as we both like to feel free to do whatever we want without having to follow a schedule or be part of a group. But when I got on m...
