The drug addled Hollywood celeb whose personal life is a long record of broken promises and failed relationships and whose serial bouts with drug and alcohol abuse and revolving door rehab adventures are notorious can redeem all by “standing up” for some exotic, stylish cause. These moral poseurs and dilettantes of virtue are modern versions of those guilt-plagued medieval nobles who built churches and monasteries to ‘atone’ for their careers of bloodshed, oppression and scandal. Hey, Wally Russ -- Thaddeus McCotter called. He wants his prose style back.

Oh, and: If they were left-wingers exposing some conservative or religious organization, government-funded or not, the mainstream media would have hailed them as heroic whistleblowers, perhaps worthy of a Time cover. Yeah -- I've really appreciate those Time cover stories about Jeff Sharlet, Josh Marshall, Greg Palast....

A minor quibble about an excellent post: Time gave Power Line a blog of the year award in '04, but the Power Tools weren't on the cover. (But not to worry -- it was the Person of the Year issue, and the PotY was George W. Bush, so it was a one-hander for the Tools.)

It's not worth it. Empty the military bases and then just give them the whole fucking South. And then arm the borders to the teeth -- we don't any trouble when their little Libedrtarian Jesusland social experiment turns into a failed state.
Not too long ago, conventional wisdom seemed to dictate that gay marriage in America was inevitable. Conservatives, surprisingly, would tell me this more often than anyone. What's surprising about that? Conservatives always greatly underestimate our side's ability to fuck up the chances for any movement toward social progress.

Even after the war started, Instacracker was treating casualty claims as inflated and the end of the war as due within days. From his MSNBC blog on April 8, 2003: The latest Iraqi claim I could find was for 500 civilian casualties and it’s almost surely inflated. Various antiwar groups are claiming to keep count, but their numbers, as several different commentators have observed, appear to be bogus. So I think it’s very possible that Iraqi civilian casualties, too, will turn out to be under 500.

Oops -- you can't "read the whole thing." That's because The Arizona Republic figured out this was a press release put out by partisan hacks, not a news story. http://nomoremister.blogspot.com/2005/08/why-on-earth-is-arizona-republic-which.html
