Hawthorn calls the game like he is deathly afraid of it getting out of control. I can understand why the players get upset...there seems to be no rhyme or reason to his style. As a fan I find it hard to enjoy the games when he gets on a 'roll'
SATURDAY - I was encouraged by what I saw. I am still a little skeptical about this 'new' league, but I am looking forward to the next time I go. I finally looked at the whole schedule and was disappointed to note that the Komets don't have a Flint/Port Huron road trip. It would have been a good one to take as a fan if they would have.

Thanks Junior. I noticed 'new' right after I posted it. Didn't think anybody we be nit-picky enought to call it out. I was just trying to lighten things up and have some fun. (Psst it was a hockey post.....oil is a metaphore for toughness....let me know if the light still doesn't come on...get it... light when they score a goal? It called a play on words. See how it works?

An allegory to the rescue..... The squeaky wheel will cease to squeak when the oil is applied and not a minute before. Please forgive us if we wheels seem stubborn and persistent but we have been promised oil before and haven't seen much since Chad Cabana left. That guy new how to do the job and we miss it. Terribly.... Please also forgive us if we happen to believe that this current roster isn't very oily. If it looks oily to you, I am happy for you. Some of us we don't see the logic in waiting to point out that the drum that is empty now is still empty later. If we can't wish for oil here and now then where should we.....the natural gas blog???? How come other teams can find good oil that can play a position and we can't (o.k. I could think of an allegory for 'position':) Bottom line - No Oil, No Peace P.S. We are not psychic, we have just been here before.

I have been complaining so let me be fair and say 'Thank you" to the Komets for addressing this concern. I will be estatic if they keep Henley as well. Signed, Dr. Fair Weathered/Mr. Naysayer

I didn't know that wanting the Komets to sign a legitimate tough guy made me a 'fair weather' fan...I guess you do learn something every day.

Put me on the bandwagon with Monkey, Hit and DF. That was not a good answer Mr. Franke. This seems to be like deja-vu all over again. The worst part is that I think we got our hopes up for something different. Justin - Thank you for asking the question many of us wanted to. The answer was lame, but thanks none the less.
Were playing hockey on paper right now, but it is all we can do. I am normally a pretty optimistic person but I am not encouraged by how we stack up "on paper" with rosters like the Fury and K'Zoo. You can encourage him all you want but the 3 legged horse will probably not win the race. Agreed they have not played a game yet but I have been thru a few of these pre season signing periods and this one has an odd feel to it. Maybe it's just me.....but I don't remember ever settling for other teams cast offs before. The bottom line is I personally am not that excited about this team right now and it is too bad bacause I think this will be a big year for this leauge. I hope that we are a big part of the excitement.

Excellent. Now go sign Henley. Unless the guy is a total cancer, he is what you need. Not a bad positional player, in fact he is actually pretty good considering his toughness and he is a big time pressence. Don't get me wrong, I know there is time and lots of needs but I as a long time fan I agree with some of the sentiment in here regarding lip service from managment to the issue of toughness. Get it done. Don't wait. Sew this up. We still remember Bolduc, Trombley and Boone.

I like this. (3) years ago as a season ticket holder I missed (6) games all year. This year I went to (6) games total. Thr formula is simple: Play tough entertaining hockey (the way it was meant to), minimize expenses and show that teams in this leauge (all teams) can make money and you will attract interest in markets that logictically make sense to join. I really like the idea of not blanketly following the NHL. I personally think the NHL is moving in the wrong direction so why be a lemming? I am excited about hockey again.

Is it really that hard to find a roster spot for a guy who does nothing but bust his butt everytime he hits the ice? Good luck Kelly.

P.S. Port Huron is a lot better than I thought they would be. this is a good team despite the record. They play with an edge which is enjoyable to watch.

I really enjoyed the game last night. Good defensive struggle and some old time hockey elements. I thought the ref did a great job letting the players play. The boarding call was questionable but it was one of the better officiating efforts I have seen all year. Yeah, he could have called an instigator for the fight Huck had but he, Huck, did drop his gloves and start swinging. I am glad he didn't call it. I like the idea of letting the players settle some things like they used to as opposed to the constant barrage penalties.

Miller has clearly grown as a hockey player since his early days with the Komets. He seems to have grown as a player and knows how to bring it every night. I was always a fan of his but he is definately a shot in the are to this team. Mr. Jorde should be watching and learning from him. The kid (Jorde) has talent but he has to learn to use it better at this level IMO.

The game turned out to be a decent one despite the Penality Parade. I am begining to feel that it is unfair to bad mouth the officals in this leauge in that they are only calling the game they way they are told to by the leauge office. There is a interview going around the net where the Frankes chime in on this issue. I am in complete agreement with the sentiments they convey with respect to the direction of the leauge. For my money this is not good hockey and I don't go nearly as much as I used to. Plain and simple it is just not as much fun. P.S. If players can not motivate themselves to play hard....that is what the coach is supposed to do. That is where the buck or puck in this case, stops.

Hit - I agree with your statement. I didn't mean to be coarse yesterday and I apologize if I was. Were all orange and black friends here. If people want kinder gentler hockey I am a caveman and will go away. But if not, as I fear, the leauge is making a blunder.

Thanks Greg, in all the years I've been watching hockey I never noticed those other elements.... I love they way some feel the need to assert hockey 101 to anyone who doesn't think they way they do. To be correct about it...if YOU want a kinder gentler hockey YOU go watch something else or start your own leauge. All I am in favor of is the spirit of the game and what it once was, be left alone or do I need to explain to you the 101 dynamic of the role fighting plays in hockey? Komet fans love Steve Fletcher and his jersey hangs in retirement. Why? Mainly because he played the game the with a style of intensity and toughness. People respect that. Many hockey fans enjoy it. JungleMonkey - Do you know what the 'Jungle' stood for in its heyday? I respect your opinion but if that is what you want or all you expect out of your Komets (your comment on our teams toughness) you and I will have to agree to be polar opposites on this.

P.S. I went to K'zoo last Saturday. Pretty sloppy and uninspired in my book. To a degree I can understand (I don't like... it but I understand it) why the NHL wants to go Euro and clean up the leauge. They are trying to market the skill side of the game and minimize the rougher stuff (Hypocrites - the won't take a real stand and outlaw it all together) I can not figure out why the UHL seems to be following suit with the Euro play. The skill level isn't there to the degree it is in the NHL. Why not see if it works and then follow?

I am glad that I am not the only one lamenting the lack of physical play and fighting in hockey these days. I am finding it hard to warm up to this team and get into going to the games. I really don't fault the Komet team/org so much, it is just the way hockey is going and they are just a part of it. I ask you excititng would this game be (tomorrow) if Tidball and what's his name had to be here to face the music? I have never heard anything so assinine as suspending a player from a particular opponent. What's next....on ice time outs? C'mon...this is hockey (or it used to be)

I question the wisdom of patterning the UHL game after the NHL. I have found it (NHL) very difficult to get into the games due to all the calls. There is equal blame to go around....the players are being dense and insisting on doing the things they know they can't AND the refs all calling all kinds of ticky tacky junk on top of it. The NHL is hanging its hopes on eye popping individual talent and glitz, can the UHL really take that approach? The UHL is their own leauge....they should grow their own brain and do what's best for the UHL insted of following Bettmans flight from the traditional game of hockey

The Bulls intro song is the Alan Parson's Project song called Sirius (intro for Eye in the Sky) from the 1990. I like Brad airing his opinion, but I am not a fan of the 'hyper PA announcer' type. I like Larry's style and I especially like the subtitle vocal inflections he uses to announce that 'questionable' call against the K's or the 4th Komet penalty in a row. P.S. Larry, if your reading...please play the heavied up instrumental version of "Back in Black' more. I love that that Yngwie Malmsteen?
