Actually, since then she's had two real modeling gigs. I think she has decided she only wants pros to take her picture. Thanks for looking--
My Dog is Cute
And while I'm here catching up on book reviews... Sunflower had a bath recently. She endured it. I tried to take a picture of her for a holiday card, but she got bored. I guess she doesn't have a modeling career in her future.
Yes, that is discussed in the book, how there was really only a small, unique group of men who had the experience and coolness to work at those heights. It's amazing--I get a little dizzy looking at some of those pictures!
Top of the World
(.pɹıq ɐ sɐʍ ı ɥsıʍ ı) For many people, vacations are a chance to visit famous buildings, see historic sites, and tour interesting museums. If, however, you happen to live in one of those places with famous buildings, historic sites, and interesting museums, well, you often don’t get to them, bec...
Thanks! I'll look that up--
The Long Way Home
The other Mrs. Adams. After reading several books about John Adams, I thought, "You know, John Quincy Adams had a really interesting life-he'd be a great subject for a biography." I never pursued that thought, though--the closest I've gotten is Mrs. Adams in Winter by Michael O'Brien, a book ...
Congratulation in advance! I hope you have a beautiful day. I can't wait for the pictures--especially of the cake!!
A Breath, and Then A Step Forward
Dear readers, This is it...two days from now I'll be walking down the aisle, and I'll officially become Mrs. Pastrygirl. Or I suppose you can call my fiance Mr. Pastrygirl from now on! I'll be away from Dessert First for the next couple of weeks - we're not going on honeymoon just yet, but...

"...most apartment kitchens are rather small and lacking in equipment?"
Wait a minute, are you describing Hong Kong or the sorry excuse for a kitchen in my NYC apartment?
I love the step-by-step photos in the article. And also the cute white dog who no doubt wanted to volunteer as a taste tester.
My Adventure in Hong Kong
Hello! First of all, thank you all so much for your notes of congratulations - I was so thrilled to read each and every one of them! I already feel like I got one of the best wedding gifts ever with all your heartfelt wishes! I'm also very excited to learn about all the fellow brides-to-be out...
Congratulations! I swear, last week I was reading one of your older posts and the thought, "Aren't they going to get married...?" crossed my mind. Now I can't wait until May to hear about, well, the cake. (Am I a cake stalker? Maybe!)
In the Mood for Love
I joked to my boyfriend this weekend that this might have been the first time since I've started working that I got a day off to celebrate Chinese New Year. Okay, so it was really Presidents' Day, but given that they practically get a whole week off in China (yes, that means they are still rev...
It's beautiful! Now if only I could find an excuse to make it...
Shades of Pale: Brown Butter Vanilla Cake with Caramel Buttercream
Here's a little irony for you: when I went to the midwest for Thanksgiving a couple weeks back, I was told there might be a chance of snow, that I might get to experience the joy of the first snowfall. So I packed my suitcase full of woolly scarves and cable-knit sweaters, only to encounter cr...
