So many projects half-started that need re-uphostering to finish. A mattress cover for a daybed upstairs (my grandfathers baby crib which is now daybed adapted = true love), a cushion for the window seat in the kitchen and a myriad of other projects. Fabric is maybe even HARDER than wallpaper... Continue reading

One thing that I have always appreciated so much about the Swedish interior aesthetic is that they are so so good at mixing old and new, antique and ultra modern. It's never been my strong suit (I always seem to like the old stuff much better than the new) but... Continue reading

so. i was invited to a halloween party which took place last night. a longtime Halloween Hater (stemming from "The Cat in the Hat Debacle of 1974" but that's another story for another day), i decided that i didn't want to miss going to a party with my friends just... Continue reading

I love a road trip. This works out well since E enjoys driving. Perfect. It feels like ages since we just jumped in the car and went on a road trip just us, so yesterday we decided to make it happen. We drove about 3 hours north of Stockholm to... Continue reading

i'm so curious to see how this turns out - im off to check out that apartment therapy post next. i have two thoughts about this for what its worth - what about the orla kiely multi stem? fresh and modern but im not sure if it is maybe too much color (or the wrong palette) for you? http://www.orlakiely.com/assets/www.orlakiely.com/store/HWMSTP-500-Multi.jpg another thought is to paint the floor white then stencil on top of it. it would give you complete control/flexibilty re:color choice and there are some pretty amazing stencils out there of course. wondeful inspiration here:http://designamour.com/2011/01/05/stair-rising-experience/

We love our little house by the lake and believe me it is more than enough to keep us busy - like, try a 10 year project. Luckily, that is exactly what we wanted and sho 'nuff it's what we got. But spending countless hours over many years of cruising... Continue reading

Little projects like changing easy upholstery on chairs are so fun to do because they are all about instant (well, almost) gratification. Chairs a very generous neighbor gave to us, BEFORE with perfectly ok but old and tatty and a little dull fabric... And AFTER with new and crisp bright... Continue reading

Some lovely lovely bedroom photos are giving me inspiration to get painting this weekend and whip my own into shape. Our new bed has been lying in its box plunked in the living room where it landed after being delivered 2 weeks ago. This one I love for its quiet... Continue reading

we have a lovely little root cellar we'd love to store wine in (lots!) someday. it needs some fixing up (not much actually, but some to be sure) but it's pretty far down the totem pole for now. i'd love to put some gravel on the floor, whitewash the walls... Continue reading

A girl can only eat so much cereal for dinner. At some point, a hot meal becomes a real treat. We've been without a functioning oven/stove/running water for about a month. Fantastic timing that huuuge progress was made in the kitchen at the end of last week so that on... Continue reading

so the kitchen is coming along slooooowwwwllllyyy - will post photos next week when hopefully most of it is in place (although it will be weeks/months realistically until it's styled like we want with curtains, shelves, cushions and the like). in the meantime, i'm busy hunting for light fixtures. there... So a reminder of the kitchen before: And here is our builder wreaking havoc with that wall that is going away to open up the existing kitchen with what used to be a dining room... Demolition of this wall revealed a secret passageway! Actually a door opening (no door there,... Continue reading

Plans for the new kitchen are in full swing now and it is an exciting but nervewracking time. Rather than allow myself to get distracted with the practicalities of why things can't always go where we want them, I am amusing myself by fantasizing about the styling once the cabinetry... Well, it's not 100% finished, but the long-awaited (by us!) bathroom is far enough along that we are now using it and I even have taken a much-anticipated bath in the bathtub. Whee! Still to do: paint (blue-ey grey above the wainscoting), install lighting fixtures, get the round window installed... Continue reading

It such a good idea to not rush into decorating a room and letting ideas stew and fester for a while before making Big Decisions. More time = more opportunities for new inspirations and finding what feels 100% fab rather than "gosh i hope i'm going to love this". Witness:... Continue reading
