So do I understand correctly that your opinion is to rename "Perl 5.x.y" to "Pumpking Perl 5.x.y" and keep backward compatibility? Letting others (or even yourself) to create a fork called "ABC Perl 5.x.y" that can break backward compatibility. I see that might make it easier for people to experiment, but as I understood most people want someone else to do something, and those who want to experiment already do it. (e.g p11)

Congrats. BTW Maybe you could add the feed of to Ironman as well. There is a link on the top of their page to submit it.

I am a bit late to this discussion but here is a link to the TPF wiki where the perl versions of various distributions were collected. Partially from the earlier mentioned DistroWatch. Regarding the whole issue of no-support etc. My guess is that most companies will use the perl that comes with the distribution and won't care much about newer versions of perl.

That's basically one of the value propositions of open source. If you want to become a good programmer, join an open source project and learn from the masters there. Even just reading the code would help a lot but being involved in the project allows one to learn a lot about the process as well and not just the end result.
