Congratulations! You have certainly all worked hard to make this the "go to" place when we want the military story or to find out what's going on when we hear something. As for Valour-IT it's the most awesome thing in the world to be able to help even if it's only a little.

Let's see... we have soldiers coming back from a deployment. They've been "on the road" for... how long? As I remember my son returning from deployments the travel time is several days getting out of the war zone. They just had an 18 hour layover (joy of joys). Now Delta's oh so wonderful customer service slaps them with an extra $200 to get ALL their bags back with them? Excellent. Just what the soldiers needed at the end of a deployment. Makes ya feel all warm and fuzzy doesn't it. Yes, they would be reimbursed. But that isn't really the point is it. As a civilian, and from my point of view (which I'm sure Delta doesn't care one jot about), military returning from a war zone should have their trip home made as smooth and effortless as possible. They shouldn't be hit with extra fees from airlines (even if they'll be reimbursed later) and they shouldn't be hassled. Just get them on the plane and get them home - they deserve that much after giving up significant portions of their lives to protect us. Is this the first time this has happened? Or has it been happening all along but this is the first time someone has publicized it? The war has been going on for quite a while... The blog post was probably the WORST way they could have responded. It was even more insulting than the original request for cash and from what I read made the problem significantly worse for Delta. It wasn't a "we'll do whatever it takes to fix it" post. It was a "we'll work with them" post. And since most of us have experience with the results of the airlines "working with us"... they might just as well have said - "Yeah right - whatever - go suck eggs".

Assuming he is wearing his uniform over top of the pantyhose (he is isn't he??? If not there are color coordination issues too. ha.). For regular wear under the uniform I'd say he's asking for a full on heat stroke. Just my view as a woman who has spent some bit of time wearing my fair share of pantyhose. ;-)

Hard to say since I don't know her. She may be that stupid (seems highly unlikely) or she may be using it as a plot device in her book because we all know the military is fair game for shots like this, unlike ethnic groups of various sorts, or she never gave it a thought when writing it. I really lean toward the latter. Also she may feel she can get away with it because her JD Robb series is a futuristic one - thus she can always claim this is the military of the "world" she has created. I will say that I read some of her books as Nora Roberts and found myself bored in the extreme after the first three or four. I could basically tell you exactly how things were going to go in each book thereafter. She has a set outline for every story. In all the books I read, the outline never varied. The characters and the dialog change, but the basic stories all run the same. You know exactly how every relationship is going to progress. You know exactly how often things are going to go wrong. Yada Yada Yada. I just recently (on the rec of a friend) listened to The Search. It's been long enough, since my earlier foray into her work, that I thought the book itself was okay. I found myself listening for the 'basic outline' - it's still there. I'm sure it makes things much easier when turning out the large number of books she has published every year, however I find it irritating. Doesn't matter much, she has a huge audience that love this style of writing. More power to her! She doesn't write for everyone she writes for her audience and is very successful. I tried to read the JD Robb series too. I quickly tired of trying to figure what book would be next. After reading 3 then buying a second copy of one of the 3 books, I decided it wasn't a series I wanted to pursue if I could not differentiate the stories well enough to remember the titles when I had read so few.

I thought Assange was all about everyone being able to see everything at any time... Did I miss something? Oh - you mean that applies to everyone but HIM.... riiiight. If you excuse me, I'll be over in the corner giggling about this for quite a while.

What they all said on the PS3... and if you need any cables/wires, please don't buy at the regular store!!! Go to monoprice.com and get them for what they should cost. Box stores charge nearly $100 for hdmi cables because they can. You can get them from monoprice for about $10-20 or so. I've used them for buying an hdmi connector cable for my computer and got the thing for about that including delivery cost. So check them out before shelling out $$$ for wires. Remember this is all digital. You don't need special "gold plating" and the like to get better quality. It either works or it doesn't. Have fun with your new toys!

What a twisted world we live in when a family in mourning for a soldier is now considered "the government"... all because they want slimeballs like Phelps to leave them alone while they are holding the funeral. Mr. Snyder is not exactly Congress telling Phelps he isn't allowed to speak... It all makes me so sick. Naturally the ACLU is on the side of Phelps - anything they can do to break down families in the name of so-called "free speech" whether it meets First Amendment standards or not.

Thanks Jeff! I was wondering about the movement too. Was going to try calling my son (a former Chinook Flight Engineer) but it was easier to check the comments first. LOL.

"Any previous attempts to "conquer" Afghanistan..." Interesting, I had no idea we were trying to "conquer" Afghanistan. Silly me I thought we were trying to eliminate the Taliban and make Afghanistan a more livable place for rational Afghani people and governed by Afghani people. Last I heard we had no plans to send Barak Obama there so people could bow to him. Or does James think Barak Obama wants to be the supreme ruler of Afghanistan? Of course we could always bring the dear boy to a mere police operation... let's say... taking down a local drug runner. We'll give him a gun even! Take him to where the guy is hanging out. Then, once we pull up down the street from the drug runner, we'll call the guy on his cell phone and say... "Look, we're here to arrest you. Now come along peacefully. James M (who lives at XXX Street, XXX city) is gonna walk on over there right now, down the middle of the road. He'll be wearing XXXX you can't miss him. You just wait right there for him and come along nicely. He wants to get home to his family for dinner tonight." How's that work for ya James? Wanna walk down that road and pick the guy up for drugs? Worried he might not like it? Worried he might have an illegal gun and shoot at you? Worried about your family? Why???? Shouldn't everyone have 100% access to all information? C'mon - we PAY for it! And after all - we said we'd give you your very own gun!!! Piece of cake man! Sheesh.

Even more sad that all they Co-op said was that they "apologized" to the soldier. No mention that the a$$holes who wouldn't serve him were fired. *sigh* You know, at one time I really wanted to visit England. Now days... not so much.

Since they appear to be pro-Taliban, how about we deliver them to the Taliban along with a little note saying "we know you aren't especially pro-gay, but these guys like you". And sit back to see what happens.

Matt - the Blackfive Giving Circle link isn't working. I went poking around the site to see if I could find it, but I don't see it. :-(

Because of Mat, an entire community now exists to help those who serve and their families. I can't think of a more wonderful way to be remembered. And what an incredible thing you have accomplished in his name. I have now used up a few kleenex while reading this and trying to find the right words. Bless you both.

Most likely because I wasn't clear when I wrote the comment - happens to me far too often. It's clear to me, but not to others. :-) I think we both are of the same general opinion, just expressing it differently.
