Warning: Spoiler alert (although, after reading this, you may realize that this is impossible) These days, when people hear the term street art, they often picture Shepard Fairey’s Obama Hope poster, yet it has a diverse history that includes everything from Keith Haring’s brightly colored bodies to the cubism of the graffiti world--the three-dimensional lettering that old school New York City writer Tracy 168 dubbed Wildstyle. It encompasses artists from Michelangelo—who wrote his name in the remains ofDomus Aurea so many centuries ago--to Neck Face, Ron English, Jef Aérosol,Tod Hanson, Swoon, Twist, and, of course, the Pied Piper of street... The outlaw of 15th century ballad has undergone a modern movie makeover courtesy of Ridley Scott and Universal. The cinema chatter factory of the blogosphere (yours truly included) is all lit up over Scott’sRobin Hood (starring Russell Crowe as Hood and Cate Blanchett as Lady Marion) playing opening night at the 63rd annual Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday, May 12, and opening in the U.S. two days later. The script was originally entitled Nottingham, with the titular town's sheriff as protagonist. Crowe wasn't thrilled with that concept. After a rewrite from Brian Helgeland (L.A. Confidential and Mystic River) Robin Hoodwas... Continue reading

Last night's season finale of Entourage was surprisingly dark. For a show that has been accused over and over (and rightfully so) of having no soul, we got to see some actual consequences and ensuing emotions. And it was all... Continue reading

I will admit that I have some pretty awesome Spike and Mike memories. Their festivals were like the youtube of the day. And I get that is how they make their money. But their attempt to withhold a video by a guy who is giving every single other one of his videos for fee just seems wrong. It's like Michael Jackson not wanting to sell Paul McCartney back Beatle song rights. Neely is a young artist. It's unclear what is going to happen with his career. I want him to have those rights back and I think it's the right thing to do.

There seemed to be a lull there for a second where there wasn't anything to watch. Lost was over, Breaking Bad was over and you caught yourself actually having some one you were 'rooting for' on Dancing with the Stars.... Continue reading

About a year ago I was invited to watch all three The Lord of the Rings movies in a row with a girl who I desperately wanted to see naked. I showed up at her house bright and early on a Saturday to start the process. Unfortunately her dad spent the entire 10 hour film experience sitting on the couch between us. At least if it ever happens again we can be watching these new blu-ray releases while I get nothing. Continue reading

Do you remember the movie True Romance , where Christian Slater is trying to sell Saul Rubinek a suitcase full of cocaine? The sheer mass of booger sugar inspires the two to give the drug collection the name Doctor Zhivago. Ever wonder why? Cause the movie is huge. It is 197 minutes and it doesn't let up the whole time. Pick up your copy of the new Doctor Zhivago release that comes out tomorrow. Continue reading

It's been almost a year since we heard anything about the upcoming View-Master movie which leaves the prize for most ridiculous thing to be adapted into a motion picture wide open. I nominate the facebook status update It's Complicated. But the good news is the movie isn't a total wash. I actually snuck into a screening of this with my Mom the last time she came to visit. We were both pleasantly surprised. Alec Baldwin seems to be coming into his own late blooming stardom quite nicely while Steve Martin actually manages to downplay a role for once. There is... Adam Sherman’s Happiness Runs (2010) is set in a hippie commune (based on the one where he grew up) 20 years after the heyday of free love, where men greet children with salutations such as, “ I was the one who grabbed you when you came out of your mom’s vagina.” At the head of this outlandish community is Insley (Rutger Hauer), a coot who is more charlatan than guru, brainwashing women out of their undies and into his bed. Although that’s not what he calls it. His description of what he does? “I vibe.” One person who is not... Continue reading

Last month, when I saw Alice in Wonderland in IMAX, I was treated to an array of Disney trailers for the coming year. One in particular had my jaw on the floor and my brother asking me “What the hell is this?” I was geeking out like a little kid and felt a little old at the same time. My brother was not even thought about when this film came out. In fact, I was born the year it was released. I am talking, of course, about Tron Legacy. Read on to find out how I’m preparing for December 17th!... Continue reading

Since it was the number one movie in America 3 weeks in a row and I failed to post a review when I saw it, I figured I still had time to put my two sense in. The majority of the reviews have been awful and the conversion to 3D heavily criticized. While I agree that more time should have been taken to give the film a better 3D look, I find it amazing that I am in complete opposition with most critics. In fact , I seem to be making my own trend. Lately, I’ve been disagreeing with almost... Continue reading

Mark Simpson: The most oft-repeated cliché about "Sex and the City " is that "They're not really women. They're gay men." Of course, this is palpably untrue since, with the exception of Miranda, they don't wear those trawlerman beards that all gay men do these days. But the cliché is even wider off the mark in its attempt to dismiss the relevance of SATC to "real" women by referencing the gays. As if women today weren't adopting or aspiring to some degree to the hedonistic metropolitan lifestyle of many gay men. As if they weren't interested in how to be... Continue reading

Yes it's true. My birthday just happens to land on the week Clash of the Titans is released. I've mentioned before how this was one of my much anticipated releases for the year, so you can imagine my excitement that I get to see it in 3D as part of my birthday celebration. Really, Warner Brothers, you shouldn't have! Every time I see the trailer on TV or in the theater, I get pumped. The action looks great, Sam Worthington looks great (as he always does!), and the Kraken looks AWESOME! I am eager to see what Louis Letterier has... Continue reading
