I love the expression of pure exuberance! There's nothing like a child who's truly experiencing and exploring. So glad there are still people in the world who allow kids to do what kids are meant to do.
the color of spring
Here in Maine, I'm beginning to see the first colors of the season. There's the yellow of the spring chicks in our kitchen. There's the amber of the maple syrup we're boiling. And then there's the white, white, white of the inevitable almost-predictable first day of spring snowstorm. ...
I love your description of being familiar with the land, and even well-acquainted with specific trees. As a former farm girl who's been uprooted to town, I can fully relate to your love of the land. When I miss home, I don't just miss the farmhouse, but I miss specific places on the farm: that certain grassy knoll with a spectacular view of the valley, the cow path that winds between two Maples, the mossy rocks that are covered by spring waterfalls each year...
My husband grew up in the middle of a busy city, and I don't think he fully understands my love for the country. I enjoyed reading your post and finding a kindred spirit!

It's a rare day that I watch a movie, but your description of Tess of the D'Urbervilles is so compelling--I'm going to try to convince the hubs it's a must-see.
I'm also inspired by the mantle. I've never thought of character-inspired decorating before, but I love the idea!
A Spring Mantel
A few weekends ago, I spent not a small amount of time watching various movie versions of Thomas Hardy's novel Tess of the D'Urbervilles: the 1979 version with Natassia Kinski, the 1998 version with Justine Waddell (who is one of my favorite actors, and who you might know from the brilliant Wi...
My mom is a fabulous sewer, and although I am active in other crafty hobbies, so far I have not followed in her sewing footsteps. Lately I've been feeling little urges to step into the sewing/quilting world. These fabrics are inspiring me to take the plunge!
