Tisha, I love it! "Spermology" is a wonderful word! And definitely it's a good idea at all times to stay away from predators.
love.com: Online Dating and the Sperm Whale
In honor of the end of the whale migration here in Washington, I thought this story was worthy of re-posting. Plus, I'm getting ready to teach a new school of unsuspecting fish of my own! A recent study conducted by the Marine Mammal Institute at Oregon State University found that sperm whal...
Wow...the things I learn on here! I have to put this on my FB page just, well, because! I cannot even believe the things people do! As a big fan of shaving the pubic area myself, I am also well aware that it has to be done very carefully and with full attention to what goes where or the results will be very unsatisfactory.
Vajazzle This, Jennifer Dumb Hewitt!
(photo of crystal merkin for sale at coco de mer) It's true that I am no fan of Jennifer Love Hewitt. Is it because she has small corn-like teeth? Is it because she seems to reference her friggen boobs in every interview she gives? (for the record, mine are way bigger!) Or is it because s...
Get Your Own House in Order (Guest Post)
Today I’m delighted to be featured as a guest blogger on my friend Tisha Matthew’s site Inspired Moments. She blogs about a number of topics ranging from her work of a life coach, to empowerment, to the law of attraction, to relationships, to developmental disabilities. She’s a fireball of a mom who works hard and found the love of her life after a very rocky start (she blogged about it here). This blog post traces my path of Internet dating exploration. You might compare it to cave spelunking in one’s soul. Please visit here and give it a read. Here... Continue reading

Awww....Marina. It is a hard process of letting go. I remember those preschool days too. My daughter would cry and cry. Sometimes, they'd have to call me to come and get her! Now she can't wait to go back!

People always used to tell me, Swati, that "they grow up so fast." I never believed it until I turned around one day and she was all grown up.

Wow, HE, twins in kindergarten? You have your hands full! How funny that your daughter was the one who went in without a backwards glance. Those girls seem to know their minds.

Tisha, isn't that the truth? It sure does change as they get older! My daughter loves the social part of school but not the school part of school.

Kindergarten. Fingerpainting. Circle time. Teddy bear nametags worn on strings around grubby little necks. Outlines of entire bodies crudely drawn on large sheets of butcher paper. And most of all, mothers staring wistfully through the windows of classrooms all over America with the irrevocable realization that a line has been crossed in their baby’s history. A greater percentage of hours will now be spent in the care and tutelage of others than in yours from this point forward. Your influence will slowly diminish. Every one of those mothers, without exception, wonders how did this happen? How did that baby I... Continue reading

MommyB thanks for visiting! I'm always so excited when I hear a success story, and lately I've heard so very many. Since one in five relationships are currently started in cyberland (and that number is growing), I guess we can't ignore that it is the way things are evolving.
Congratulations on finding your love.com love!

Now, Swati, Wal Mart requires at LEAST sweatpants and a T-shirt! PJ's just won't cut it. Now for the Dollar Store, slippers are fine.

Pour yourself a glass of wine, make a martini, and curl up with a plate of Brie and crackers. It’s time for this week’s Happy Hour Dating Dilemmas. These are real-life situations from Internet daters who have asked for help with their profiles or their online dating situation. As is always the case, the names and identifying details are changed to protect the innocent and, sometimes, the very very guilty. My lawyers said I should tell you that. Check out other Happy Hour Dating Dilemmas here. Dear Tiia, In looking at profile pictures on one of the online dating services,... Continue reading

I'm glad I'm among (unathletic) friends Jody! I am, however, pretty competitive at Scrabble. Of course, if a potential date said he wanted to do that on a first date, that might be a little creepy. Plus, I'd never let him win!
I'm a Bad First Date Sport
You’ve heard me talk before about Bad First Date Ideas and, specifically why one of those was a Wine Fest. However, there have been so many bad first dates involving sports that I thought they deserved their own separate story. It’s especially appropriate for the summer which is where these date...
I agree Grace! I'd love to know more about who your son has picked out! That's so funny.
Single Mom Meets True Love
Today I’d like to welcome a new Mom blogger friend of mine Tisha Matthews. She is a Behavior Management/Life Coach who is an active member with Mom Bloggers Club. One of the things that we found we had in common was that, as single moms, we were both searching for someone and we both found that ...
Thanks so much Grace!
Back to School the Organized Way
I have a confession. I have been blog-stalking That One Mom for quite a while! I love her work. Her blog (Only Parent Chronicles) features everything from yummy recipes, to important community causes, to her heartfelt struggles about being a young widow raising two children, to (my personal favo...
I am pretty sure there are some people out there who say that about me. In fact, I believe it's been written... Does that make it true? OTOH if I say Friday the 13th is lucky, does that make THAT true? I'm so confused?
The 279th Date
Since it is Friday the 13th and since my magical thinking requires that I give the day the superstitious honor it is due, I’ve decided it is time to share some news. My type of superstition means that I believe in these things—or not—if I feel like it or if it happens to benefit me. So I’m not...

One of the things that we found we had in common was that, as single moms, we were both searching for someone and we both found that we had to look for him a little differently than we originally thought. Maybe we were getting in our own way. Maybe someone else was getting in the way. Maybe our big, fat, ugly self-images were getting in the way. Maybe we needed to... Continue reading

Thank you so much Mary Anne. I am still going to be telling my story--much of it is about the stuff that happened before I met #279. I'm glad you're stopping by during your journey! :)

Grace, I love your blog too! Thanks so much. I don't think you have to look at it that way. You just have to think of it as a LOT of dinners out and the "opportunity" to try many different restaurants--LOL. Plus, it was over a period of ten years so that's only on average 28 dates a year.

My type of superstition means that I believe in these things—or not—if I feel like it or if it happens to benefit me. So I’m not a paraskevidekatriaphobic: a person afflicted with a morbid, irrational fear of Friday the 13th (Urban Legends About.com). However, I do think the day sometimes brings out the crazies. Or maybe it’s more accurate to say it makes us do things we wouldn’t... Continue reading

Grace, thanks for stopping by! Somehow I always feel strangely better when I know I'm not the only one who went through dating limbo. It's certainly not all bad and, if the truth be told, I've enjoyed it--most of the time. I met a lot of people and I've gone to lots of different restaurants. We'll definitely have to connect!
Happy Hour Dating Dilemmas
It’s time for two Happy Hour Dating Dilemmas. More and more, I am asked questions about Internet dating. In the grocery store, when I’m picking up my dry cleaning, at my aerobics class, by email, on Facebook, Twitter, and even at my daughter’s middle school. I guess once you’ve been on over 250 ...
You are so very welcome! It was my pleasure. What fun it is to connect with all these moms on the Internet! It's like going to a park without leaving my house.

I have a confession. I have been blog-stalking That One Mom for quite a while! I love her work. Her blog (Only Parent Chronicles) features everything from yummy recipes, to important community causes, to her heartfelt struggles about being a young widow raising two children, to (my personal favorite) her future ex-husband feature. It’s never boring on her site! Today, I am honored to be a guest blogger on her site with my story about Going Back to School the Organized Way which includes tips from my twenty plus years in the trenches as an educator. I hope it helps... Continue reading

Where can I order the T-shirt? No, seriously...
Homophobia Is So Gay!
Omg, Catherine, you totally did not just say that! It's so politically incorrect. So hetero-normative. Well, besides the obvious--being really, really funny, it is also a phrase I first saw a young queer guy wearing on his shirt when I was working the San Francisco PRIDE weekend. Yep, a youngis...
