EyeDecor: Marcus's Jungle
This is a love letter to my son’s room: I want to start my thanking you for being such a warm and loving space for Marcus. I can’t say it was your four walls that inspired me, but they have been an unlikely canvas for my some of my better creative expressions. My vision began to form one night at canvas and cocktails (virgin mimosas) when I was about six months pregnant. We picked a class that would allot us the opportunity to paint something for “that baby”’s room. We (my friend Sharon and I) chose to paint panda bears.... Continue reading

Sole Searching: Take a ride in my Vans
I’m an urban dweller. “Urban” being defined as living close enough to the “big city” to walk to major necessities; coffee shop, diner, grocery store, etc...As a regular walker/cool mom, what I sport on my feet is extremely important. I have recently made a conscious decision to not over-wear my Uggs in public as I feel like big foot in house slippers. So, in lieu of wearing my usual boots, I’ve decided that my winter staple shoe must be flat, fun and fairly easy to maneuver my stroller in. You’ve heard of “Mom Jeans,” well, I’m coining “Mom Shoes.” As... Continue reading

Party for One!
To party or not to party? That is the question I asked myself for several months leading up to Marcus’s first birthday. I’m always down for a party because it typically presents the opportunity to buy a new outfit and drink vodka with reckless abandon. But a baby’s first birthday is hardly the occasion for cleavage and dancing...or is it? About two weeks into planning I knew that I was going overboard. I went down a dangerous Etsy rabbit hole of themed/customized party favors, which ultimately led to decoration ideas, and finally manifested into the purchase of 8 bags of... Continue reading

StyleEye Mama turns 1!
The last three hundred and sixty some odd days have been the longest, shortest, most joy-filled, exhausting and exhilarating days of my life thus far. I’m sure most first-time mom’s will use similar adjectives to describe their journey into motherhood. For me, these moments, days, and sleepless nights are best articulated with this list of words I had formerly only used to describe a Vegas-vacation or the moment after tasting a cookie-dough blizzard (yes, eating a blizzard can be exhausting!). I’m not sure “words” can do this past year justice, but my blog going forward will be an attempt at... Continue reading

DelusionalEye; Bad Outfit Decisions = Good Style Lessons
Image Illustration by: OXOlaterre This is a dumb question, but have you ever seen the movie “Clueless?” (I’m going to imagine a resounding “yes” from all of you.) There is a scene where Cher discusses how she takes Polaroids of herself in outfits prior to leaving the house in them. I remember as a 14 year-old thinking, “GENIUS,” but never adopting the technique for myself. Well, today I’ve learned a very valuable lesson that made me wish I had taken a picture prior to walking out the door...Sometimes, the best liad outfit plans can translate into a style disaster. #badoutfit... StyleEye Afterbirth
I’m back! And I’m carting *43 life-changing lb's and a slew of other “stuff” in a Louis Vuitton Neverfull, as I reclaim my StyleEye. (*18 of those are my baby, you do the math...) Many new mothers might begin their first post back in over a year with a soliloquy about the magic of motherhood, but I've decided not to bore you with those details. While Marcus could be a racially ambiguous Gerber baby, (that was a well-disguised brag) I have so much more to tell you about! (Which will likely be coated with antidotes about how beautiful my child... Continue reading

StyleEye Bump'd: The Fame Factor
As rediculous as it seems, the top headlines in the news lately involve famous baby bumps.
As if it isn't hard enough to deal with body image, "we," as in us bump'd up gals, have to face our changing bodies in the wakes of famous faces like Halle Berry, Princess Kate & Kim Kardashian. Continue reading

OscarEye: 2103
I mean, these are the prettiest, richest, most resourced women in the universe, where is the magic?!??! I didn't see a lot of risk taking or mind blowing happening on the red carpet of The Oscars last night. Truth be told, I was underwhelmed. With all of the amazing fashion shows going on right now, the couture, the high-fashion goodness, the dresses last night started to feel a little "off-the-rack." Maybe I'm being too hard on these gals (probably not), but that's just how I feel! Images via Just Jared My Besties: Keri Washington in Miu Miu: The color was... Continue reading

NYFW Fall 2013 Day 2: Strap on your Helmut!
Photo Credit: Marcus Tondo for Style.com Okay, so today not quite as cray! Fall 2013 is the official "anything goes" season for dressing your person. Highlights include Kate Spade going urban prep, Rebecca Minkoff giving us a peek into the ultimate stylista's (with the endless budget) closet...BUT, Helmut Lang sang sweet, sweet, beautiful, fashion music on the second day of NYFW. I'm not sure if you remember your first "high-end" designer reckoning (The Gap doesn't count). Helmut Lang (after Todd Oldham) was mine. I babysat for a football player's wife, and one night in the summer of 98', she wore... Continue reading

Okay kids, day one of Fall '13 shows are underway! I have been viewing the shows on Style.com and let me just say, it's the best seat in the house. I've viewed about 15 shows so far and my overwhelming reaction is, in the words of the wise wise Mr. West, That $hi+'s cray! Lucky 13! InpiredEye
Image: Miguel Almeida Deca Energy light bulb / illustration "They" say that the key to a great blogger is "consistency." I'm probably the most inconsistent person you'll ever know. Hence the lack in posts during unspecified periods of time. I'm truly the kind of gal that finds it hard to blog when in a lul of inspiration. Rest assured that when I am writing, I am inspired, and when you are reading StyleEye, you are being exposed to ideas that I'm genuinely vibing on at the moment. Having said that, instead of waiting for the inspiration to hit me, this... Continue reading

EyeWore: NYC Day 1 - Mustard's last stand
I'm a huge fan of the Canadian Tuxedo, other wise known as denim on denim on...AND, I bravely turn my head away from the ghost of nay sayers who teased me in sixth grade when I used to rock this statement. AND, I command that if done properly monochromatic denim is pure awesome (hmph). I did, however, take a moment to break up the denim monotony with my new favorite color, mustard. I'm like a a reverse, jean hot dog with long hair! As NYC is a walking city, I've rallied my favorite flats, these patent, Zara loafers, that are... Continue reading

StyleEye takes a ski day
Today was our first day of skiing for the season and not only am I a self proclaimed "Ski Machine," I take the fashion of skiing VERY seriously! It doesn't take a lot to look like a snow bunny, a P.O.C (pop of color), some puffery (preferably in the form of a coat), and a little less snow plowing & you'll look like Lindsey Vonn's high-fashion twins-ie. EyeAccessorize! Santa will be super jelly!
I think it's safe to say that gold, red, green, sparkly & black outfits are the go-to uniform right now. The only way to really swiggity-switch it up, is to swap out your belt and heels! It's a bit more complex than that, but for the sake of making the post even more general than it already is;-) I've put together some items that can make your holiday look a bit more current. (See above) Accessories switch-up tips: 1. Try that big thick belt! It's like a tummy tuck without the surgery! It will slim the waste and probably prevent... Continue reading

Monochromatic mustard, watch out hot dogs!
This monochromatic, mustard, concoction came to me while getting a last-minute manicure before our holiday party on Saturday. Why did I have mustard on the brain while getting my paws patched? Perhaps it's the lack of Oscar Meyer's in my life...Although I'm pretty certain it was born from the vintage, mustard'y, YSL, silk top I scored on consignment last week. I have been desperately plotting outfit options around it ever As my outfit planning time was running out, I still hadn't fully committed to an ensemble for the party. I was daydreaming about the aforementioned YSL top, and like a... Continue reading

Love YOU! Love, Me
Illustration by Kawaii-13 This is my way of inspiring my readers about style while giving them practical solutions to common fashion dilemmas, fueled by perceived self-imperfections. Here are some StyleEye, skinny-style solutions to the ever-present, “Fat Day.” I’ve recently put on some weight. It happens to the best of us right? We get busy, we stop counting calories (as if we ever really did) and 4-day workout weeks have turned into one…the result, a ripped crotch during a skinny jean squeeze-in attempt. Yes, “we” is “I.” For the last 6 weeks I’ve been walking the line of plotting the purchase... Continue reading

Happy Fall! Cool Coat Alternatives
It may be officially fall, but it's not quite time for that marshmellow-like parka just yet. While we are experiencing the most beautiful time of year (in my humble opinion), I thought it would be a good time to discuss creative cover-up's that break you out of your pashmina/cardigan routine. "What kind of cover-ups"? You may be wondering? How about a vintage, Mexican flea market poncho? Don't judge, just view how gracefully I have pulled this off with a simple rope belt from Target and skinny jeans! See! What's that? You kind of like it? Please note the knitted collar... EyeSpy: Fashion's Night Out NYC 2012
The first day of Fashion Week is like the first day of vacation, you want to do everything, see everything and really take it "all" in. What can often occur on the inaugural day of vacay/fashion week is a sense of what I call "the sprinter approach." You tend to want to get after "it" quick, but like with any good experience, you have channel your inner marathoner, truly pace yourself for the experience. I'd like to think I chose the ladder yesterday. I savored that first-day "buzz" and decided that when it came to FNO, it was about slowing... Continue reading

What Fashion Week Means to Me/You/Me
New York Fashion week is the greatest time of year. Not because of the pomp and circumstance surrounding new clothes, but because it's fall in New York (the greatest season) and the community of fashion lovers are united. The energy of fashion week can be felt all over the city. Some people avoid it, others flock towards it and most want to be apart of it but don't quite know how. What fashion week means to me, is an opportunity to be close to something that inspires and moves me. It is an opportunity to be in my city and... Continue reading

Dressing Room Chronicles - Absolute Top Shop
I waded my way through the main floor of Top Shop this weekend, I was anxious to be on the right coast to see what style EyeTems are playing on the main stage. I was up to my knees in pixie dust and unicorn tears in the SoHo store. (For reference, pixie dust and unicorn tears are the birth parents of glitter.) Here are some practical glitter get ups that any Eye'er can rock. From left to right: 1. How about a brocade pair of shorts with a chunky knit? My friend who was with me when I picked this...
